In this video we take a look at the indigenous ranger pack also known as the ARVN Rucksack or the ARVN pack that was used during the Vietnam war by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam Forces. Also known as the army of South Vietnam, this combat field pack was highly liked by the US Troops, therefore lead to the development of the tropical Rucksack.

I bought one of these from Supply during Reforger 75 at Wildflecken Germany. Sold it at Fort Hood a year later. Deros. A good pack, for about 8$.

Just saw your Great Video, on the ARVN pack from Vietnam. I was wondering where did you buy it from? I'm a Vietnam Vet and love to purchase one.

Excellent review. Mine has a cotton webbing strap covering the lower horizontal frame of the pack. Also, they came with four straps for lashing on the side. Two per side. I’ve had mine for about thirty years and I just recently listed it on eBay. Very collectible pack.

Great review thank you for the content! I looked for one of these packs for a long time with no luck. I eventually settled for an early war indigenous rucksack also known as the Special forces rucksack, CISO rucksack, and or the CIDG rucksack. If you could get your hands on an Indigenous rucksack id love to see a review on your channel. Keep up the good work, big fan from Canada!

Thank you for watching the channel unfortunately I don’t have a CIDG rucksack in the collection at this time however maybe I’ll run across one . I think I have a cheap copy of one, I found it at thrift store one time. I’m not very proud of it. But it was cheap so I bought it. Thanks for commenting and watching these videos from Canada

The velcros are there simply to prevent chaffing on the wearer's shoulders.

Although generally the Marines doubled up on padding with the M1941 shoulder pads and LRRP guys and rangers preferred STABO rig pads where available

I had a friend of mine that was a Grunt in 1970-71 Vietnam he said he would roll up his towel and run across his shoulders

I have this pack, to wear it I removed the frame cause on the weight and put a ridged foam pad inside the ruck to hold its foam and it worked well, after watching this I believe I will get it back out and use it. Good video

If you are interested in a NEAR direct copy the US was trying with, the Nylon, experimental USMC 1967 pack was closer to the ARVN than any other ruck... Although being extremely rare, they are pricey

Please pass the closer straps behind the outer pockets. Thats why the buckles are unter the backpack. By the way, the kidney padding is missing. Best regards from Germany. I love your chanel.👍

Best guess, the velco was for sticking to ammo pouch suspenders.

Maybe
@rollypollyguy3976
@rollypollyguy3976 2 года назад
On second thought, that would make those "quick release" toggles a whole lot less effective. Plus I haven't seen any suspenders with corresponding velcro strips on them.

I came across a pack roughly the same size as this pack but in nylon and with no outer pockets and no frame. Does anyone know what it could be? It might even be a tad smaller, hard to tell without having them side by side. Any help would be appreciated.
