He wrote this during a period of two years in silence. I have listened to Avro's composition during my times of weeks of silence and his music leaves an imprint on my heart. Going into silence is such pleasure and after several weeks of living in silence leaving this is like emerging from a deep well and so difficult that I weep.
I have had an inkling of this feeling, I think. In my early twenties I spent 5 days and 4 nights alone in the mountains in Wyoming, seeing not a human soul but two BLM workers from far across an alpine basin somewhere above 8,000 feet. yes. it felt something like how this sounds.
Arvo Pärt Portrait Concert: [0:01:40] Fratres (soloist - Harry Traksmann, violin) [0:13:52] Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten [0:22:15] Adam's Lament (with Estonian Chamber Choir) [0:45:48] Salve Regina (with the Estonian Chamber Choir) [0:59:35] Te Deum (with Estonian Chamber Choir) [1:36:05] Vater Unser (with Estonian Chamber Choir)
This is mind-bogglingly beautiful, not just the music but the futuristic concert hall and the rapturous audience. I have been blessed to see performances all over the world, Carnegie and Royal Al and the Konzerthaus, but this may be and probably is the finest concert I have ever seen, the composer himself bowing to the audience at the end. The choir, sotto voce as the orchestra looks on, is a seraphim of angels. The conductor is a buddha. Avro Part, you win my heart. ❤
Estou conhecendo hoje a música de Arvo Part e sinto um turbilhão de energia percorrer meu espírito e desaguando em meu corpo. Que musicas mais lindas! Emocionante e engrandecedora. Parece que tocamos em Deus ao ouvir. Gratidão a vida, a natureza, aos universos!
Absolutely magnificent!!! I have once stood at an audience of 3000 doing this, I still feel them today! (Karl Jenkins 75 year jubilee at Carnegie hall) What an amazing concert!!!!
