I upgraded my ears last year with a set of hearing aids. Working in high noise environments for 20 or so years took its toll. I now hear the upper frequencies which I never realized I was missing. Yes measurements matter, but none of us hear the same exact frequency spectrum. What sound great to me in my house may sound bad to you in yours. There way too many factors in that equation, even our ears differ. Go with what sounds best to you!!!

Great review. I do love that you mentioned that - contrary to popular belief, measurements do not always guarantee good OR bad sound. Without mentioning names, there are some well known reviewers who mostly base their measurements on perceived greatness. And one in particular was floored by how well some equip. sounded contrary to “sub-par” measurements. (art form) From hearing sev. sets of both cheap and expensive speakers in the past, I stand by your comment as well. Your ears tell you what is good, not necessarily what the equip. measures at. It’s an art form making speakers and HI-FI equip. The streaming device you reviewed looks to be a pretty solid value. Great job breaking it down in layman’s terms. Yes, also, people get wrapped up in wattage. 35w driving 2 speakers at relatively close range is def. enuff to make you lose your hearing slowly but surely. Love all your reviews and your no-nonsense approach to not having to take out a 2nd mrtge. to be able to have great performing equip.

I enjoyed your take on the A50. I bought one a couple months back and have used it both as a preamp with my main system and as a stand alone system in my office. (Where it currently sits) Its an incredible little system. Watch for sales. I got mine at 15 percent off and have seen that deal offered again since I bought mine.

I like that you listen rather than MEASURE equipment. I really enjoy your videos for their honesty and integrity.

I just got this one. My Yamaha and Klipsch + Kenwood + Fluance speakers set does their job in the living room, and this was for my bedroom for hanging out, reading, etc. I've just read a review that trashed this unit, and then claimed the measurements were so bad they just stopped reviewing. I couldn't understand why. Yes, noise floor is bad, yes the app is a bit wonky. But I don't know where you're going to get a streamer with all the options, plus multi-room connectivity, and DECENT to very good sound quality range, for this price. People obsessing over graphs, charts, SNR, etc. haven't listened to this. You're doing it right.

I don't measure well, but my wife thinks I'm fantastic and not boring. :D

The sound of heads exploding over class D amplification and the irrelevance of measurements in the enjoyment of music was beautiful. Keyboard zealots, this isn't audiosciencewhatever.

I agree with you about Measurements. They have their place in design or troubleshooting; but the only measurement that matters at the end of the day is the human ear. And truth is, mot people like speakers with a bit of a V shaped EQ. Also, we need speakers with different dynamic profiles. For home theater, we need brighter speakers. For near field music, I prefer a bit warmer speaker. Point being...if all speakers were measured to the same outcome, we wouldn't have speakers for different applications.

Arylic also makes streamers without amps. I got one in a nice case with remote for like $70. Works great! Their email based customer service is also excellent.

Awesome review as usual! I was looking at this awhile ago and didn't pull the trigger due to mostly poor reviews regarding quality control issues and lack of customer support, hopefully they're working on those problems. A decent xmas bonus and selling a pair of extra speakers has allowed me to up my budget to afford a sprout 100 from ps audio instead, should be here in a week. I know that's not cheap audio material but I'm hoping it'll be worth it compared to options like the a50. I can't wait to hook up the sprout to my Jamo C93's and compare my experience to your hopefully soon to be posted review! Thanks Randy for the detailed review. Im a total analog guy with turntable, cd player, tuner. I have never used my phone for music. If I wanted to get into streaming, where would I plug in the rca cables into my Marantz SR-7008 with this unit? Would I need a separate DAC? I have Spotify on my cable, but I have to type in the artist/song and I just end up putting on a cd.

I find it hard to believe some of the exorbitant prices that other companies charge for their streamers ....

Another great review. Question for you. Can you stream to multiple Arylic streams at the same time? I’m currently using HEOS in the house but only two of my receivers are new enough to have HEOS and Denon’s HEOS amps are expensive for what you get just to be able to stream to multiple rooms. So I’m currently resorting to long wire runs thought the house so I can get music playing in all the rooms. Thanks for the help. And I hope the family had a nice holiday.

I got an old piece of wall tile. I can permanent marker your name on it so you have a coaster. Don't want to show up your aesthetic too much, but feel like it's a solid compliment to the bath towel table cloth.

I bought this dope streamer called the Nexum Tunebox2. It costs around $50. It just got discontinued and they started selling their successor: Nexum Tunebox3 (costs $129 with the digital version). It's a Chi-Fi product and it sounds incredible. It's beneficial for active speakers. Great review, sir. Streamers are essential.

I have been using this for a pool system for over a year now and it sounds great. I would like to add two speakers to my front porch and run all of my outside speakers from the same system. What is the best way to go from two channel to four channel with this system. Or would I be better to just buy a second a50?

It's a huge market and allot of people like the compact design and flat response (on most class d) , I know I do because it allows me to reduce bulk and enables me to spend more on a quality speaker. If you don't need the amp get the Arylic S10---streamer without amp. Works great.

Just returned my A50+(on sale $150). Sounded overly warm on my Wharfedale 11.2 speakers. Compared to my 20+ year old Yamaha rp-u100 desktop receiver(30 wpc, 6ohm, $100), the Yamaha sounded more powerful, open, and dynamic. The Arylic sounded strained and compressed trying to play loud. The Yamaha was connected to an old, cheap, Samsung TV, optical connection, streaming Tidal, via 4k FireTv stick. The Tidal app on the Arylic also seemed not to show all the titles that the app on the FireTv stick streamer shows. Sound quality was the biggest factor though.

I agree a lot, in blind test cheap amps beat high end!!! And most cannot hear difference...what you can hear is clipping ...when you want high volume dynamics with little power and low efficiency speakers...

Regarding speakers that measure well... I had an entire Polk LSIM setup, 707 towers, 706 center and surrounds. Powered by a beefy Parasound a51. I saw a review of the 707 and it mentioned that that speaker was that flattest measuring that they had ever tested. One word to describe my personal experience.... BORING. I was throwing a ton of power at these and they were basically lifeless. Sold these and just bought Klipsch 8000f and 504C center. Night and day difference. Now I know the klipsch are not flat and I dont care, the dynamics and excitement are off the charts. I never opened up the Polks but it sounded like there were 30 crossover parts in each speaker choking off the sound. Now im a little bit dubious of great measuring speakers.

Great review, but I have a specific application question. Can I use the Arylic with my iPod that is attached via usb to my network attached receiver? I’m looking for a better user interface to control the iPod remotely. I used the Tango Remote app on my iPhone previously but the app is no longer available. Sounds like the Arylic would also allow me to use an external Dac (which my current connection does not allow). Thanks

Great review on the product! I wanted your opinion on pairing a set of Elac debut 2.0 b6.2 with the Arylic A50, would it be enough power to run these speakers and have a truly pleasant listening experience at moderate to elevated volume. I listen to all genres and some with deep punchy bass. My only concern is can this small unit truly drive these speakers?

I got one of these for Xmas. It’s brilliant! It will play 24: 44.1 Amazon music through the Amazon app but not anything higher. I’m testing out all the high res players at the moment and Qobuz is the best for me at the moment. Have yet to try tidal

I had a living room setup using the same modules before, sounded very decent for a non-audiophile system. It’s a great soundbar killer. They’re really not bad. You can look at the SMSL q5 Pro for a similar amplifier that might come in cheaper (without some of the wireless stuff). I have one from a small European outlet that had a custom UI I liked, but their name escapes me. On measurements: If you want to get beyond a basic, cheap sound... you have to understand which measurements matter. Polar response will tell you a lot, as I’ve said before. Distortion specs are hard to interpret without really digging into it and measuring everything the exact same (appropriate) way. Sensitivity absolutely matters. Wattage absolutely matters. You can enjoy things that don’t measure well, look at headphones with their wonky response. It’s a bit different with speakers because of room interaction, though. I say this consistently because it will help you evaluate your speakers and improve your sound if you know what to look for. Measurements are often misstated and inaccurate (from manufacturers). This is all science, just have to know what is audible and what isn’t. Sorry, not trying to insult anyone or talk down to anyone, it’s just so important to know this sort of stuff so you don’t waste money. It all comes down to holding companies accountable so they make better products.

Wow we agree on something :) The Kipsch la Scala do not measure well and anyone says they do not sound awesome. Then take you're earbuds and take a walk.

You should have mentioned how great this would be for a "Zoned audio" system for the whole home. This is a great alternative to the amazing Sonos Amp. While I doubt that it is as good as the Sonos, the value proposition is off the charts, and probably gets you 90-95% there for one third the price!

You didn’t mention Apple Music. Would this be a good streamer for Apple Music? I’m trying to find something to replace airplay because it’s terribly unreliable (at least with my receiver).

Will the Arylic A50+ be a good match for my Wharfedale Evo 4.1? The specs are: nominal impedence 8 ohms, sensitivity (2.83V @ 1M) 87dB, recommended amplifier power 25-100W, bass driver 5″(130mm) woven Kevlar cone, treble driver 30x60mm AMT. I would appreciated any feedback you could provide.

Have you checked out Plex and the plexamp app? I use it to stream my music to my 2 channel system through my computer or phone. Would work great with the Fosi amp you mentioned. Also supports gapless play.

For fun...have a segment on finding bookshelf stereos like for example a Sony CMT series pushing other speakers. I pushed my Cs5 pair with that bookshelf sony cmt cp11 stereo I bought year ago for 7.99 at thrift shop. Only had bass treble control. I opted for KEIID cuz it had 2 channels a and b same time, bass mid treble eq and plays mp3 CDs too no speakers. I'm glad I evolved into Sony audio receiver and dvd player using keiid cd only via rca output into reciever now. you might have fun showing old thrift shop bookshelf stereos push greater sounding lower priced fav speakers. Which is another cheap way to throw a set up together on the cheap. Though i am sure everything has been done ... Just not with your magic al touch.

Part of the reason that measurements don’t matter very much is because the source material is often compromised. Microphones don’t always pick up a perfect signal across all frequencies, and mixing engineers use various monitors (and their own ears) to mix down music to fit their unique taste. This often results in a product that is not a true reproduction of the original live signal. For example, if the fully mixed track is missing some mids at 3000hz compared to the original live performance, it won’t sound good on speakers that “measure well”, rather it will sound more natural through speakers that have a bump at 3000hz to compensate. This is an example of why speaker measurements are deceiving....they are only 1 link in a long chain of devices that impart their sound signature on the final product. And don’t get me started on preamps and power amps and DAC’s and file compression and cables and placement and room acoustics.....you get the point.

Great work on this, and your other, reviews. Thinking about a streaming platform now. Your previous video indicated a preference to use aphone/tablet as the interface and link to a bluetooth receiver plugged in to your system. With that in mind, is it better to go with the Arylic or BT receiver (presumably the Topping that was shown) + a decent amp?

Would like to purchase an A50 for kitchen ceiling speakers and an S50 to connect to my home a/v amp p in the living room. If I group them and play music will there be a delay in the living room because of the extra time to go through the a/v receiver? Is there a way to delay the sound through the ap or hardware?

Measurements are useful in electronics. Many times the measurements are not useful, because they do not tell you how it sounds. Some distortion sounds Very good. Contouring the sound is good, and can pay big dividends, for the manufacturer. Designers know this.

Hi Randy, been watching since your first week. Really good video, especially talking about measurements. I have a pair of vintage Large Advents. They don’t measure well at all, sound great. The Latest high priced integrated Marantz amps are class D. I think it’s the Model 30. Go Randy.

Have a general question for the group, having been out of audio for some years, now coming back: I know this will probably sound like a stupid question, but I currently stream from my phone to my home theater via Chromecast, or I use the music section of the RU-vid app on Roku. I also set up Plex on my computer to stream my CD collection to the home theater. Tell me why I need a streaming box and why are they so expensive, compared to the Chromecast for example? Streaming components are new since my previous audiophile era. Thank you.

I have an issue with Arylic devices sync with the multiroom feature, experiencing audio delays, horrible, like the devices are in different frequency. I use mesh and tried different locations, etc. nothing work. Frustrating. Any advice is appreciated

Since you like cheap but very good products, try to find the discontinued but fantastic Chromecast Audio using the spidif is an awesome cheap way to stream audio

What about a classic car? This looks pretty easy to hide away and just bypass the crude that's built in. Though would need a way to run it 12v dc. Maybe a 12v to 24v transformer/

Great review. So practical... At the end of the day, how it sounds to YOUR EARS is all that really matters.. I have the S50Pro streamer/DAC (which I am assuming is what your unit has internally ) and love it EXCEPT for lack of GAPLESS playback.. Sigh. Curious... how were you able to ascertain that it does not handle Amazon Music HD tracks ? I know digital outputs of the S50Pro DAC/Streamer is limited to 16/44.1 but I was the impression that it processes Amazon Music’s HD format all the way to 24/192Khz internally / natively..
