I stopped being into movies many years ago. Hollywood has become a stronghold of worldly sin, and more recently, a vehicle for the dismantling of all that is good in our culture. There are exceptions, but they are few and far between.

Same here. Secular movies are not compatible with the committed Christian life, opposed to the mediocre one. Most of the relationships they portray are sinful. They show sex scenes, even the suggestion is bad for the imagination. Romantic comedies are nonsense, they make dating look like a game. There is no such thing in the Christian Life as dating: it is courting to be married. Best to disregard movies all together if you are a serious Christian and want to get to Heaven.

Your video is great and I agreed with all you said. I feel like you could have taken it one step further - to not watch movies with sex or nudity at all. Not out of fear or Puritanism, but to respect the dignity of the actors and actresses, and to not cause others to sin. Whether we like it or not, we are examples and people pay attention to the movies we watch. “No man is an island” - so even what we watch in private will still have an effect on us (even if we are not conscious of it) and the Body of Christ. This life is a blink of an eye… we shouldn’t sweat missing out on a few movies when we will be spending an Eternity with Our Lord. ❤

Great video. This is part of the reason I stopped watching Bridgerton. The scenes are so explicit I don’t think they can be distinguished from pornography. It’s very unfortunate because it is a riveting show. I just can’t justify giving attention to a show scandalizing young minds the way it does in those scenes. God bless!

Thanks for the video, Elizabeth. This is something I’ve been wondering about for a while. I thought that since movies are art, it would be okay to show nudity because the human body is beautiful. But it makes sense that it isn’t worth it-especially because, due to our fallen nature, we view the body with a twisted lens and get aroused.
@airinkujo3207
@airinkujo3207 3 месяца назад
how about in animated form? the only way we get people to stop sexualizing everything is to bring them back to the fundamentals. we cannot make the same mistake protestants made and adopt a puritanical view, which pushed people onto the other extreme side. we can’t make immodesty go away so why don’t we provide support to help people to not give into lust.
2 месяца назад
@@airinkujo3207If nudity is depicted through animation, there is a natural veil because the artist can manipulate the designs to appear less realistic. It’s all about the artist’s choice. They can present the body in a way that arouses, or in a way that allows the audience to enter into the mystery of the body. I agree that we ought to avoid extreme Protestant prudishness. As for viewing the body without a sexualized lens, there is still hope. The catechism says that, despite our fallen nature, purity of heart is attainable. The ideal is to see the body with the original innocence Adam and Eve had when they first saw each other. It was never taught to them, however; they just naturally had it. So yes, I agree that we should proclaim the beauty of the body, while also employing individual introspection to correct our broken views.

My parish was going to have a screening of the movie! “Black Robe”, which is rated R, full of sex and nudity, and violates the Diocesan Safe Environment policy. I thought maybe the pastor didn’t know because it was a parishioner who was leading the screening, so I sent him an email with parental information of everything that the movie contained. He responded back to me that he was not getting involved in this and would not speak to me further about the matter. I was flabbergasted. I sent my original email to the pastor as well as his response to me to the Bishop and raised my concerns. I never received a response, but the screening was quietly canceled.

Now what about nude photography (I mean like pregnant photoshoots or artistic photography)? Can the dignity of these people be maintained? Or does that compromise their dignity? Is there some nuance here?
@erric288
@erric288 3 месяца назад
There's definitely room for nuance here. It depends both on the intentions of the creator of the content, as well as the viewer. Nudity in the Sistine Chapel is not meant to elicit sexual arousal, and you are not supposed to use it that way either. The nudity in popular media is intended to arouse you and temp you to sin for profit.

Context CAN be critical in this discussion here. What about The Godfather undressing scene on the wedding night between the husband Michael and wife Apollonia? With that said though I do feel the spouses are the ONLY ones who are allowed to see EACH OTHER naked.
@jacobninjaman1751
@jacobninjaman1751 Месяц назад
I think a better way to look at the issue is to compare it to other things in movies. Murder may be needed for context but you won't see someone actually murdered. Nudity on the other hand you will see actual nudity. Movies found a way around it for many years. It's not that context is important, it's that writers are lazy and kinda gross by nature.

Loved this video but it got me thinking. I’m a revert and newer to modesty and love reading. My favorite genres are fantasy and mystery with a romance subplot but recently I find I’m encountering a lot more “smut” hidden in these genres and end up either skipping the sex scenes and possibly missing info for the main plot or just put the book down altogether. Genres that used to allude to characters having sex now have graphic descriptions and it’s so frustrating. Do you think this video applies the same to reading sex scenes?
@fr.andygutierrez5356
@fr.andygutierrez5356 3 месяца назад
I would say yes, absolutely. Reading a graphic sex scene can be just as arousing as seeing it on screen, so I’ve found that skimming over those passages is the best way to go. It’s the reader’s form of a “ceiling scene”. It’s really refreshing to find authors that are committed to not including those scenes in their stories, too!

I recently had to turn off the sopranos which I was hoping I would enjoy, (was recommended by many Catholics) and it’s just so awful and immoral I couldn’t get through it. It’s to the point where I am made uncomfortable at work because people will recommend shows and I basically have to ask people if what they are recommending me to watch is softcore porn, as I’m not into that. That’s a weird conversation to have to have in a work environment.

Many shows on Amazon, Netflix, etc. contain nudity/sexual things more frequently in their first few episodes or first season, it would appear as something of a hook to get more people (men) watching. Why would they do that? More viewers means more money. Love these past couple of videos but starting to wonder if this lady has read the bible. Jesus of course will be judging you and we are called to judge each other's actions but not pass eternal judgment because that is reserved for God and we don't know who He will extend grace to. 2 Corinthians 5:10 "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad." Please don't be led astray by this lukewarm view on Christianity. We will all be judged according to what we do on this earth ❤ God bless you

Thank you for the great video and your ministry. My very specific question is whether or not you have thoughts about the sex scene about making a sex scene in Love Actually (and I guess comedic sex scenes in general). Many of your thoughts and points in the video apply but I can't help but think sometimes there's a cost to making art*. I could be wrong. I rewatch that movie almost every holiday season and I want to know if I should just continue to avert my eyes or avoid watching it altogether (which would be unfortunate because it's a great movie). Thanks! *I guess the best way to frame it formally would be to say "it is not intrinsically evil to visually simulate sex involving full or nearly full nudity" because the scene is very graphic

Wow girl, took you 11 minutes to get to the point! Kudos though for trying. I realized several years ago how disturbing sex scenes are on screen or even in print or audio. We're sitting there watching others have sex. How absolutely perv is that? In real life, many of us who cross paths are having sex but none of us are inviting anyone to watch nor are any of us accepting an invitation to watch others have sex. I was at my sister's on the weekend and I didn't watch her and her hubs have sex and they've never invited me or described it either. But then on the screen we're all watching others pretend very convincingly to have sex and other sex acts we've never done. Its become normal but is actually super cringe and backwards. Meanwhile our standards for sex are driven by the theatre put on screen even when the primary motivation for that is making money, not being intimate. Edit: its more than just wanting to make a living, pay bills and feed families for many of the actors in these productions. The average person doesn't just trip into a screen roll. Most actively seek it out aggressively and sacrifice their children through abortion in order to make their dream of being an actor happen. Lets just be real about that. No need to conceal the ambition behind it.
