That issue largely ties into the topic 'Statutory Interpretation', whereby UK judges depending on their seniority (and one or two other circumstances) are able to interpret law set down by Parliament in order to reach a decision in a case, creating a precedent to be used by other courts in future (i.e. judge made law). It's a controversial topic for some. I have done a video on this topic, but if you need more specific points let me know.
