Welcome to the latest installment of Chad's Sports Talk.
The ongoing drama of conference realignment continues to show. The Pac-6 was still looking for new members, and the search included Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, South Florida, Utah State, UNLV, and San Jose State. Now it may look appealing for some members to move around, however, the PAC was getting the stiff arm from many of its targets. All four American Athletic teams stated they would remain in place and not move west. San Jose State and UNLV also said they would remain in the Mountain West, and the Air Force did the same rebuking the American attempt to poach them. Utah State has accepted an invite making both the Mountain West and Pac-7 to only have 7 members and both will need to add at least one for CFP money and recognition. Rumors are circulating about Gonzaga joining the chat and possibly UConn. Which programs should the Pac-7 recruit? What's next for the Mountain West? Which FCS program will move up next? I will share my thoughts on these questions, but let us mix them up in the comments below.

I think the PAC should pursue expansion in this order: 1. Add Gonzaga and St Mary’s as basketball only members 2. Add UCONN for Football and basketball only (or football only with a written agreement they play non-conference games with the new PAC) 3. Add Texas State as a full member to get to 8 full members per NCAA requirements. 4. Get a media deal with schools they have in order to negotiate with schools for potential expansion. 5. Go back to Memphis and Tulane to sweeten the deal to add them. (Wait for UTSA and USF to apply for an invitation) *If they can get UCONN to come onboard with both football and basketball, perhaps look at some of the eastern basketball powerhouses to add to alleviate UCONNs travel like Villanova, St. John’s or Providence for arguably a top tier basketball conference. They’d also be the best G6 conference by a long shot. Key here are the lawsuit and being able to negotiate a better deal with Memphis. Their AD didn’t say “No, we’re not interested” he just said they were offered a bad deal but would consider it if the terms were better. I’m hoping the last few days the PAC 12 has been silent they’ve been on the phone with Memphis. 🤞

@@mathewblood5113 I've said this before about UConn when rumored for Big 12, their 🏀 will remain in the BiG Easter for the foreseeable future. I do "like" Gonzaga being added and UConn as football only. I believe Texas St is more likely to join MW.

The Mountain West should raid the Big Sky with Idaho going to the PAC. PAC should add New Mexico St to finalize their new rebuild. MW I can see Tulsa, UTEP, Sam Houston, Texas St UTSA along with The 4 Dakota schools and the two Montana schools would create a nice minor league out west underneath the PAC. I think the grant of rights will dissolve sooner than later thru the settlement allowing Stanford and Cal to go back to the PAC, but short term the PAC needs to add New Mexico St to get to 8.

@@JasonMclaurin-zt7gr I believe MW will not go into FCS for replacements. Instead they have reached out to Texas St and the PAC has also done the same. Also heard NIU & Toledo are also being targeted by MW, but I think they might stay in the MAC.

I think 🤔 everybody is focused on the PAC 12/ M. W. bickering over current M.W. schools Boise State 🐎 San Diego State etc but everybody is forgetting the Mac still needs to add a 14th school for 2025 after adding UMass beginning in 2025 academic year

No one is forgetting them. They are just not in a hurry to add anyone. They have ran with 13 members in the past with Temple, Marshall, and UMass. So they are no stranger to that. We would like to see them even so they might go after EKU or another program from the northeast like Albany.

@@chadssportstalk7171 yeah Albany makes sense for Buffalo 🦬 in the MAC I would probably add Villanova for 🏈 only then find their replacement in Olympic sports Villanova could use Lincoln Financial stadium 🏟️ for Mac week games also the Temple Owls 🦉 and Philadelphia Eagles 🦅 use the stadium as well

I think 🤔 Tarleton State should be locked at in the Mountain West or PAC 12 it gets either league into Texas Tarleton State plays majority of their games on the West Coast anyways in the WAC but if I am the Texans I would want a Texas travel partner in the PAC 12 or M. W. Abilene Christian IWU etc

I'll push back on Tarleton to PAC. If they move up, I think it would be C-USA or Sun Belt. ACU wants the WAC to work and is focused on that, but if the WAC collapses again I can see them going back to the Southland.

@@chadssportstalk7171 I live in the Sun Belt conference footprint near Mobile, Alabama home of South Alabama jaguars 🐆 I wouldn't mind the SBC grabbing Sam Houston State 😺 near the Houston, TX area for Texas State Tarleton State?? but it's 2 hours from Dallas the SBC had Ut Arlington a couple years back so who knows

@@chadssportstalk7171 Don't forget Tarleton. They are upgrading facilities rapidly, are financed by Texas A&M, have successful programs, and were one of the top 5 last year in FCS football attendance. The school is very close to Dallas / Fort Worth and has a rapidly growing student enrollment - currently 18,000.

@@garryhorn7027 I'm not forgetting Tarleton at all my friend. Intinially I did push back when they first moved up from D2. Now that I have researched them and noticed the huge amount of $$$ they have put into athletics, I know it will be a matter of time before they move to FBS. I'm just saying they would not be added to the PAC and more likely Sun Belt or C-USA. I see them moving up in the next 10 years if not sooner.

@@damascuslutin3956 Texas State is located in San Marcos between Austin and San Antonio. Yes, Sam Houston is 70 miles north of Houston and Tarleton is 65 miles south by southwest of DFW. I know both are a distance away by car and driving that distance by car is exhausting in TX. So either would benefit the Bobcats much like Marshall benefits being in the Sun Belt sitting near the Ohio River and the nearest school is 290 miles. James Madison is almost 5 hours away from Marshall. Distance would not be an option for the Sun Belt if they decide to go down this route, but I like Sam Houston better in the Sun Belt, personally.
