Final thoughts on the As-V pro protective line, elbows and pants. CCM brought some great aspects in its pro line for elbows and pants, and fell short a bit on the shins. Overall a success line.
For me I've found the Warrior Alpha LX Pro Elbows are so good for comfort, protection, mobility, and staying in place. Best I've tried. Glad I got the ASV Pro Pants. I really like them.
Im getting into the sport for the first time at 47yrs old. So im a complete novice at everything. I tried doing some research and had got Bauer S3Pro for shoulder and elbows. Shin guards i was trying many pairs and the ASVPRO felt best, i started trying the other ASV and loved the elbows over the Bauers
I have the AS-V elbows (I didn't go pro since I couldn't justify the extra money) the 5 and 5 pro are essentially the same with a couple of added bits of d3o. I do like them and find they stay in place pretty well. Glad you got on with them too.
After seeing this video I picked up a pair of the CCM AS-V Pro pants. I had the hyperlites and hated the belt stabbing into me. I tried the FT4 Pro next but the stomach protector flops out too much and I had to crank the strap and it still wasn’t too comfy. Gotta say I’ve only skated in the AS-V once so far but the strap system and the entire waist system is super comfy. Thanks for the great reviews!
Good to see that there is some good gear out there. One thing which I do with pants that the strap thing is too long is I like to tuck it between the belt thing which has the logo on it (right below the suspender mounts). Or if the long strap drives you crazy you can cut it down with a scissors and then melt the tip with a lighter. For the elbow pads, I currently have some Tacks Classic Pros or something (AS1 generation), and they stay up far better than any of my previous pairs did. And for gloves, not sure if I mentioned this already in a different comment on a different video, but the I've heard good things about the QR5 Pros. They also have a flexcuff like the Ultrasonics so as well.
I’m still rocking my ccm ultra tacks elbow pads which I bought in 2015. Honestly to me they are the perfect elbows. Light yet very protective and secure on the arm with the tree straps. The subsequent elbows releases in the tacks line look similar but I can’t imagine where the improvements would be.
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews I saw your comment about the elbows falling off. I've never had that problem especially with the Ultra Tacks. Maybe consider trying a smaller size? I'm tall and I sacrifice some forearm protection for a snug fit.
@@mspaic10 they are tight. No matter what elbows I use they fall off so i instead use a shock doctor shirt with the elbow sleeve that you fold over. No issues anymore.
I have the AS-V Pro pants. Im 5'11" about 200lbs and the guy at Pure Hockey put me in mediums. I thought that would be too small but I unzip for the extra inch of length and they fit great, a little snug pulling them up, but once they are on they are super comfortable.
Tried a couple different elbow pads, but by FAR the best elbow pad I’ve used is the STX Surgeon RX3 Elbow pads. They have three seperate segments (one for your biceps, one for your forearm, and one for your actual elbow). Because of that they don’t slip around with use and you have great range of motion. They also have a protective sleeve inside the elbow pad with grip at the top and bottom, which I love because it protects against the straps rubbing and irritating your skin. Best part is during STX’s 2-3 40% off sales every year, you can pick them up for $60 plus shipping
As a pretty tall player (193cm or 6 feet 4 inches), the actual length of the pants when extended makes a big difference when it comes to protecting that last inch above the knee. I found that the FT4 Pro pants were actually about an inch longer than other comparable pants and would actually have liked CCM to offer longer base versions as were quite a lot of tall players.
Yeah always wondered how taller guys managed I’m 5’9 and a large is perfect length but start being over 6 feet and your pants are going to be above your knee a lot
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews yeah, at least for most models I reckon, which is why I used the opportunity to point out the FT4 Pro pants as they're noticably longer in the legs.
@@andersborum9267 weird I didn’t notice that I had both. But since I’m generally shorter guy my pants always half over my knee. I hate when it’s short and bunches on your top shin pad flaps
I have a pair of warrior QX, love them because they stay up, hate them because they're SO HUGE and I have sleeve issues. I have the bauer's, They don't stay up as well, these look like the worst part of both. Although when you showed off the warrior DX (which look exactly like the lx pro), that seems the way to go for me.
Elbows eh, I had Lxpro for awhile and they were decent but big. I settled on FT4pro and seem to hang but if I didn’t have those prob would have stuck with the as-v
Im in between sizes and sizing down seems to keep them in place better than sizing up. But then doesn't the bicep strap feel tighter than it should be? I'm thinking about adding a velcro strip extension to make mine more comfortable.
I find that if I roll back my base layer sleeves over my elbow pads and shin tape the roll over, they do a decent job of staying up. The pants look really interesting given the ample D3O for the tailbone. Not crazy about the price though. Have you tried pro stock pants? Wondering how they'd compare.
Ive been using the AS-V pro elbows for a couple weeks now. I wear the shock doctor base with the sleeve that folds up over the forearm of the pad and I also have figured out how to loop the top strap through the bicep pad strap of my FT1 shoulders. My elbows never move and I can’t notice any decrease in mobility.
Hey, do you know what the dual anchor strap is supposed to be doing on the elbow pads? It doesnt feel any different than my old apx anchor strap, wasn't sure what the the "adptfit+" is...
All the across anchor straps usually are designed to stop movement down during shooting but I have yet to see one actually do this well. Its best to roll your under sleeves over to keep elbows in place
Interesting, when I tried on the ASV elbows I was impressed with how well they stayed on. I don't have any game experience with them so I can't say for sure, but they felt like the most secure fitting elbows I've ever tried. Maybe you're just too swole? I agree 100% with you about the pants though. They are excellent quality and I don't even notice them when I skate.
Yes I saw that and surprised me as the release date is nov. So unsure if production was bumped up. I didn’t see anything in my local shops this weekend yet.
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews understandable. I recommended getting a mic that is hyper cardioid or super cardioid. Which means it’s only picking up sound to where it’s pointing. Other mics have a more 180 degree pick up.
@@evenmoreevil just on your comment picked up some sound panels will instead in the room next video as well as a more expensive mic and see how it goes!
Have you ever tried the STX Surgeon RX3 elbow pads? They are very low profile and I’ve found that they retain their position better than most. It really depends on if you mind the internal sleeve or not. I know my teammate doesn’t like it but I find it helps keeps things in place. YMMV I guess.
I have RX3 elbow pads as well. They feel a little loose since they lack the middle strap which makes them feel less restrictive and more agile. They still slide down on my long sleeve base layers though.
Bought the AS-V pants when I was trying to upgrade from AS1 and there was literally no difference. I looked over them for an hour and all I saw was different internal material. I love the loose feel of traditional pants. Also the hyperlite pants feel flimsy and I hate the internal belt.
Hey Boomer, Would you ever do a tier list for protective like you do with the sticks? As I'm gearing up for the next season in November, I'm looking to replace my Elbow pads & Shin guards. My current Elbows (CCM AS-1s) are great but they seem really pointy and catch on my jersey a lot. It would be nice to see what your levels are at for the best protective out there.
Hey! I hate pointy elbows it’s why I avoid the bauers. Never thought about it but I’ll add to my list of ideas to pursue in the future. Testing protective takes much longer so would have to be a pretty long term video unfortunately!
How are you liking the Mach skates? Still worried about the AMP flex spot wearing down? I got the M5 but love the look of the Mach and want to trade them in. Guessing you didn't get your ASV skates yet?
Machs are great skates but perhaps not my style and prefer the hyperlite. The as-v just showed up in local hockey store so going this weekend. The Mach amp flex is ok now but I don’t play much in summer. Winter 5-6 ice times a week will be the test!I’ll prob end up with 3 pairs of skates this winter for a really good comp
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews you must be a vapor guy I'm like nexus skates better cause I can move more naturally and I like the high profile arch support and thick padding
The ft4 is just a better elbow to fold your shirt over because it’s a bit small and stream lined never actually tried without it I’ll do this drop in I have and let you know
Can you give us an update on how the machs are holding up, don’t mean to be a pain but really waiting for that review to officially see if I wanna pull the trigger on it, as I live in Australia and it’s hard to get here
Long term the final review of the machs would be down the line. Skates are more of a long term thing. I also don’t skate as much in summer to really put products like skates through the ringer. But overall they are great skates. For me I prefer the hyperlite and am getting as-v pro this weekend so I’ll have a really good overall Comparison as I go
