I love my dreadlocks. It makes me feel closer to my Native American and Aztec roots, which is important to me considered my ancestors were all pilaged.

Did you know ancient tombs of Viking warriors male and female had dread locks? That the remains of Ivan the Terrible had...dread locks? That Hindu Sadhu and tribal people wear dread locks? That ancient Slovinian remains had dreadlocks? If you have hair, dread locks are a part of your culture. Dread locks are human culture. Rastafari is beautiful. Humans have so much potential for beauty, love, joy.
Happy You mentioned the bible 🙏♥️🥰 it is offen a symbol of wisdom and strength in the word. So sad some people and movies try to make it a demonisted, dirty or "gangstar" thing, just for some people. Babylon trying to segregate us, when really dreads are a good way to unite and talk together as one in the Spirit. For me dreads represent peace ♡ and beeing in peace with yourself and nature 🙏 God bless ..one love ❤️
I first got my dreads for the look and to have longer hair, . Now almost 3 years in, i completely see my dreads as something sooo beautiful. its like carrying life with you at all times. dreads have so much independence, they don't need you to form, they dont need you to lock, they don't need you to grow. AND now its legal to discriminate agaisnt dreads. which makes me more proud and refuse to ever cut them too.
I work with a man who has dreads like John John. Originally from Jamaica, He relocated to US when he was 13 during mid 90's. He identifies with Rasta. Started growing dreads in college. Then he had a situation. He attended grad school around 2005. That August/September he arrives on campus located in East Coast City. The group home he was to be in, was no longer available due to water damage to house. The Housing Office was scrambling to find something for him. All the other housing dorms, apts were full. He was staying in hotel for several days, which was really eating away at his budget. Then a lady in Financial Assistance approached her neighbor about this young man's situation. Asked the neighbor if he could stay with him(at least temporary). The neighbor said yes. The neighbor was a Retired Military Lt. Colonel in 60's who lived alone in 4 bedroom house. The house was fully furnished. And the neighbor only wanted something like $200 just for utilities. Was not looking to make money. But the neighbor did let the lady know in advance, that the young man will have to have a close-cut haircut, and no beards(in private homes, you can have these rules if you're not advertising/renting to generalpublic). The lady then passed on the information, let him know the rules. He did come by to see the room, and the rules were again explained to him. Did not want to cut dreads. After a week of no luck with finding housing, he was listening to reggae on the radio. The song you don't have to have dreads to be rasta came on. He call the man back. Room was still available. But he had to comply with rules. Went to Barber shop. Got rid of dreads/beard for 2 years. His dreads/beard are back now. Took picture before haircut and looks like John John then and now.
Good video but too much, hate and ignorance in the comments. Black, White, Brown or Green doesn't matter we are all humans on planet earth lets us remember that. One love for ALL!
It's so nice to read the comment that you have posted, there is too much hate and ignorance. Love thy neighbour, regardless of his or her colour and good people, stop! hating on your own!!! Peace, love and blessing.
If you are african grow your hair out.Don't comb it,dont use any pruducts on it,and wash it every week. That's it for freeform, but you can go to the salon to twist your hair if you want to
Gibson Callaway so true, that's why I cut mines after 16 years of growth them. Rasta is from the heart.

I wanted make dreads at 2014, but finally i didnt do this. Now i have dreads and in Poland dreads are fashion trend now, cause polish youtuber made dreadlocks... Polish kidsXD
I don't understand why people claim any culture "started" dread locks... some form of dreads will form if you don't brush your hair, and the oldest comb is only about 5000 years old, that means for like 95% of human history EVERYBODY had dreads... nobody invented them they basically invented themselves lol
I've had many questions for God in regards to my beautiful, head full of nappy, tight coils. Even though I was thankful, I never knew what to do with my hair to bring honor to God and at the same time let it be functional. For years I bought in to the European lie that I needed to straighten my coils in order to beautiful-even though it was the hot comb and not chemicals, I still lived a lie. Now I am finally living with my crown the way God meant it to be a blessing to me. I am locing my hair, and I've never felt more happier, and liberated.
My locs are an extension of me and i loe how long they have got. At the end of the day Rastafari is in all of us. Having locs is ones choice but how you treat them as well as yourself makes a world of difference.
My mom started me out with Dreads at 1yrs old, she then passed a few months after to were staying with my grandparents made me cut them and have a brush cut until I got grown or in High school. I am now 22 and have had mines for 2yrs coming up on April 6th✊🏾✊🏾!! I have grew them back all for my mom and I love Lions very much so have to represent the Lion of Judah....God gave us hair so why not love everything he gives to us and cherish it? I don’t believe in ever getting another hair cut..
Please help me understand why is it that some of rastafarians neglect their hair to the point of becoming matted, dirty and broken? What's the norm for hair maintenance?
Love this video sooo much !!! 😍💚💛❤ Thanks for sharing those wise words ! Such a pleasure to watch it as a white person with dreadlocks! There are so many prejudices and unnecessary fight between ppl from different culture (cultural appropriation)...but this video shows the real "idea" behind rasta and dreadlocks -- the simple truth what it is all about. Give thanks 🥰🙏🏼 Peace & Love from Germany
Rastafarian, raise the far eye. Do, re, me, fa, sol, la, ti. RE or RA the 2nd note as in the 2nd chakra. Raise the sacral forces. Ti or ta the 7th note, 7th chakra, crown or hair. FA the 5th note, the 5th chakra, heart. Now is this English understanding as I am speeking English or does this have meaning in Eastern or African languages?
Can someone please tell me who the young man with the short dreads is and where can I find him?? Also, where was this filled if not in the subscription box lol.
I first got dreads becase my hair was hard to take care of they dreaded day and night. so at last option I got some and when I looked in the mirror I saw me. not sum other person. I am the only one basically in my state that has them and they think I am weird but I say no. you are the weird one for thinking I am weird for doing something diffrent.
My stepmom was controlling so I didn't start doing my own hair until I was 16 . Once I reached 20 I still didn't know what I was doing as far as styling so I locked it .
I can say with all honesty I wore weave all my life the my Father Yah woke me up to who I am and his spirit guided me as Zion and told me learn my culture he guided me to RU-vid and I've seen black women with dreads where I'm at in North Carolina all I see is weave Yah told me to start them to encourage our sistas and they love my locs they say they look different than ever ones and they do because Yahweh created the look
I recently got dreads, and people say things like: you have rastas, or stuff like that. In my case it's a hairstyle, and it has meaning, but i'm not a rastafarian
tafari does not mean creator, its an amharic word meaning he who inspires or the inspired one, haile selassie was not a dreadlocks or a weed smoker he was a christian king of ethiopia its jamaicans who started worshipping him and made him into a god figure,so ras meaning head as in leadership or one in athority not dreadlocks
True ras means leader and tafari means to be inspired, i always tell my rasta friends this. but not every rasta smokes weed this is a stereotype. Selassie I was a tewahado orthodox Christian, which has many difference from modern Christianity. with that being said Selassie surely did have dreads as a child and also sent orthodox Christian high priest to Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and throughout the Caribbean because he had a love for the people, even granting Rastas land in Ethiopia near Sidamo area. So he himself was a Christian and yea the movement was pushed in Jamaica many who were Garveyites but every Rasta doesnt consider Selassie I to be God either another inaccuracy by many ppl. Present day many young Ethiopian youth like dreads but in school system its different criteria for hair.
We didnt make him into a god figure . He already was. He was of direct descent from Queen Shiba and king Solomon who were both important names in the bible. There is no other person and this planet that could have and closer DNA to Jesus or God . So don’t disrespect the almighty Haile Selassie.
to those of you who say that, "other groups of people wore dreadlocks before Rastafarians"...why is it that the term "dread" didn't come through until the "white" man saw our hair?...
Confused on how he go from our crowns represent our identities an ourselves personality den later towards da end say our hair ain’t our identity it’s just hair 🤔#Explain???
2:09 She knows her hair did not naturally loc like that bc I can tell by her roots her hair is fine with maybe a little bit of wave that she probably used a rat tail comb to make it look frizzy like Woodstock from Charlie Brown. Her ends are straight, too. Stop lying!
White people do it for style... Some black people do. A lot do for their religion. White people with dreads honestly bother me.. It is what it is.. When I see white people I dotn seen a crown, when I see black dreads locks I see a beautiful crown. I can't apologize for how I feel..
ZeeZee Zputnik People who complain about another race just don't feel the oneness of us all. We will see that we are all spiritually connected if we can only open our hearts to each other.
Historically many cultures have dreadlocked hair styles. I'm Sth American and there are many native cultures that have some sort of platting or dreading... sooooooo ... Dreads belong to NO ONE other than the one wearing them..... And lets face it... growing dreads is one hell of a commitment.... listen to the words at 8:40..... it's just hair folks... sit back down and just respect each other
