The asammdf GUI/API is an open source tool for processing MDF4 (Measurement Data Format) log files. It works natively with the CANedge, our simple-to-use, pro specs and interoperable CAN bus data loggers.
In this intro we outline key features and functionality of asammdf:

FUNCTIONALITY
The asammdf GUI lets you load a raw log file with CAN bus and/or LIN bus data from the CANedge. The GUI requires zero installation - simply download and double click it to start.
You can use the tabular display view to analyze your raw data and e.g. apply basic filtering. The raw data can be exported to e.g. CSV and MATLAB.
Further, the tool lets you load a DBC file (incl. OBD2 and J1939 support) to quickly decode your data to human-readable form (aka physical values or scaled engineering values). This creates a new MDF4 file, which you can also process in asammdf. In particular, you can create advanced graphical plots to visualize and analyse your data. You can also export the converted data to CSV - and e.g. apply resampling during the export.
A powerful feature of the asammdf tool is that the GUI is built on a Python API - meaning that all processing can be automated easily. This can be combined with the S3 API for the CANedge2 to create scripts for e.g. processing upload log files as part of predictive maintenance and other telematics-oriented use cases.

Can the asammdf gui or cantools plot real-time data via a Peak PCAN usb interface? Or can it only plot from a captured mf4/log file?
