Hey Ms. Tarcea. I'm a college artist that's been writing poems for years, but just now starting to take it seriously. I'm a rapper. What's the best way to learn more about the business, engineering, production, lyricism, branding and marketing aspects that support the art; and is ASCAP vs. BMI better or worse depending on the genre for royalties? This is my first video watching you. Thanks.
Hey! Sorry for the delay. I have literally been working on a solution for this exact thing so I can help more in depth and be more available outside of RU-vid videos. I'm teaching artists the business side and marketing as well in my new community. You can join the beta group here and I can walk you through many of the things you mentioned here: tarcearenee.com/iajbetalink
@@TarceaRenee thank you for responding! I have one more question lol If I sign up for songtrust, do I still need to sign up for ascap? So many hoops to jump through ! 🤯
You’re welcome and you should for sure because SongTrust collects and properly sends (administers) your song registration to ASCAP when you input the songs.
Just ran across this video months after it posted, but you clarified a lot. Very helpful. However, one thing I’m wondering is I’ve heard the payouts between the two are slightly different, one being more than the other in average. Not clear which is which for that or if that matters and balances out somehow when choosing. Great video, and clarification.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad it was helpful! Honestly payout is tricky. Ascap pays out more often than BMI and BMI is is in a deal now where it's being sold so it's hard to say how that's gonna pan out. It also depends on what kind of music uses you may be dealing with as well. For example, broadcasted music vs. music for the general public will be handled differently.
Thanks for that. I'm a drummer and have been writing for bands and those situations. But I'm letting that go and getting into sync now and in the process, I've heard that the ASCAP & BMI actually have a different payout $ amount, one more than the other. Not sure, but I'll be signing on with one of the two PROs this week after some further review, leaning toward ASCAP, seems like many in that area are BMI. Thanks again! @@TarceaRenee
Awesome! I am new to your channel and I've just subscribed to your channel. This is the second video I am watching from your channel now and before I go futher I kinda have some questions to ask you regarding this Ascap/BMI video and the first video watched on about "Best music distributor. " Q 1. What if I am not from the United States. I am an independent Nigerian Afrobeat Singer/Songwriter/Producer from Nigeria and i want to join Ascap since it's the best in the US. How will I do that? Q 2. In what payment option will I get paid my royalties, since I don't have a physical US bank account? Q 3. About the Illustrate Music Distribution. I am just hearing about them for the first time. Is that the distribution platform you have been using till currently or? How are we sure it's not gonna disappoint us at the withdrawal time just as Ditto and most distribution companies does today to independent artists? Q 4. Which payment options does illustrate music distributor uses to easily pay their foreigners? Please I am curious all the above questions.
Thanks for subscribing! I would say read a few things on the site to grow in trust but I’ve gotten paid out for sure. You only need to accumulate at least $10 to make a withdrawal and the yearly fee is super low for a really great Distro better than others I’ve gone through before
@@TarceaRenee Okay, I was updating my questions while you replied that one, please review my questions again, I added some more questions to it and I wanna get things clear before making any move.
1. I'm not sure of how that works, but most other countries use a service called PRS outside of the United States. I would maybe google PRO companies for your country specifically. 2. Your PRO company will have various options. Most of the time direct deposit, but they determine this. 3. I have used Illustrate for over a year now without disappointment. I still use it. Nobody can tell you for sure that YOU won't be disappointed. We are in different countries with different regulations and I wouldn't mix the issues from another company with a different one. You could have unique issues based on your releases or your country's rules/regulations. 4. I know they do direct deposit and I believe paypal or payoneer if you request it with support Hope this helps!
@Danielchinaza Hey! I actually recommend both. Check this video out where I explain: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pC4ce0kfGPs.htmlsi=TVOdzms_sllfPCSo
Thats crazy bet. This is a good video BTW. Alot of good info that I needed. I been deep into getting my business side of music right. Maybe go check out my content if you're feeling supportive?
