Yeah and the examples are great too, though it would be better to have more for practice. I found the book Realistic Stock Trading Analysis: Ascending Triangles Explained Using Real Chart Examples to provide a good practice resource since it has many chart examples.

This was great, I have been researching "how do you know when forex is reversed?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Good explanation and a good few examples. I also found the book Realistic Stock Trading Analysis: Ascending Triangles Explained Using Real Chart Examples to be very helpful too since it shows a bunch of scenarios with lots of charts that show what happens before the triangle forms and what happens during and after it forms. Its good practice for spotting and deciding on the pattern.

just a small observation. for SL you take the swing low in triangle, add the buffer and now you have a SL as high as the triangle at base then when you talk of tp the range is the base of triangle my question is : why triangles are your fav pattern to trade when in theory you have at best 1:1 R R ratio

Ascending triangles are part of a group of patterns where price is contracting into a tight space. Some people call them wedges and all different kinds of names. The reality is that an ascending contracting pattern in a bull market has a higher probability of breakout for the north. But an ascending contracting pattern in a bear market has a greater probability for break down to the south. However there are other variables to consider e.g. movement into horizontal or oblique resistance/support and RSI levels in deep trenches or peaks. In general reversals tend to happen between 2/3 and 3/4 of the distance of the contracting triangle or wedge. After that sort of distance the pattern may not be in a high probability of reversal. There is no 'law' on this. It's all probabilistic and the reversal of price in contracting patterns depend much on other variables.

Rayner---I like your teaching style... and thank you for your work.... question on allowing your "winners to run" easier said than done---I have the tendency to flinch with every new move that goes against my original trade... how do I change this,,is there a better indicator I can be viewing that will give me the comfort to hold with confidence and sit tight? Also can you create a video on "re entering" the market too prematurely after exiting your position---I tend to rush back in.. isn't serving me well THX!

Ah that's a problem for all traders even experts have it but they can manage it and keep the doubt almost silent. Its more of a discipline thing and indicators may only help a little or just be a placebo effect. Nerves and discipline nothing else. Just develop a probability based mindset that helps a lot. Also the more practice and exposure you have the better to develop those habits. The book Realistic Stock Trading Analysis: Ascending Triangles Explained Using Real Chart Examples could help you for this pattern since it can be used for practicing with charts without risking real money. You can use it to develop the skill to sit tight or exit/enter in a bunch of scenarios.

It's a chart pattern so theoretically it should work on all charts in all markets on all timeframes. Though it is usually better to trade 15min or higher in the intra day timeframe since its more stable and generally more people refer to them. The daily timeframe is even more reliable since closing prices are more closely watched by the overall market. The book Realistic Stock Trading Analysis: Ascending Triangles Explained Using Real Chart Examples is a great resource if you want even more examples for practice. This video was good but learners need more practice and exposure to get the hang of spotting triangles and deciding what they would do in that scenario.

His examples were mainly forex examples. Currency charts don't have volume. I forgot why but it has something to do with banks not wanting people to know how much currency is being traded, for maintaining stable markets. I don't know if that's true or not, that topic is rarely covered. Volume is more with the stock market. The book Realistic Stock Trading Analysis: Ascending Triangles Explained Using Real Chart Examples has lots of charts with different volume and price action scenarios, which I think is what you are looking for.

ins't the RR in these setups mostly kind of low? as the SL is quite far away from entry. to get a good RR we need a high target. i often struggle to trade a setup when i see the SL like 10% or more away from my entry and consider it not to be worth to trade. but i am not experienced and have a lack of feeling for what is a good setup according to RR. you could take a lower position size then to minimize the risk but in the same move you lower your profit al well ...
