I like how you cover certain things and even point out its flaws that most sim reviewers do not, whether they don't spend enough time with it or they're afraid to mention it. This allows prospective buyers to know what to expect and decide whether or not the flaws bother them. The shots you have in natural sunlight are nice as it's the first time I've seen actual detail and textures of the wheel.
Thanks Tim. Yeah I think the owner of this wheel is now in contact with Ascher and I’m sure they’ll get it all sorted. It was a pity to see this lack of quality in a product that people praise for being so well built.
Thanks for the review Laurence. Well done as always, Also very informative as to what to expect. Also makes the decision to get the Simagic GT4 rim that much easier.
Thanks for the review. I just ordered one of these today. I think with the 7-way hats it's a great option for VR users. There are two others on my team with this wheel and they are very happy with it so for GT cars in VR. I was confused about the grip material, thanks for clarifying. Also learned here that 28 was the wireless limit, so that makes sense now.
Once again man, I’m in awe on your ability to write these reviews. Clear, concise and informative! Keep it up man, loving the content :) P.s. the B-roll is looking great!
Thank you for your review. Something I got intrigued was the sticker with the Irish flag and a name on top of the top of the wheel. I quite like it, would you mind to share what sort of stickers did you use?
Hello Laurence Thanks for your review. Another review mentioned that the wheel is always turned off and that it turns on before any activity. It has to be done very quickly. Until now I had only seen positive reviews. Thanks for the honest opinion regarding quality. The new version now has leather instead of alcantara and the shifters have silenced due to no metal-on-metal contact construction. Best Wishes Josko
I know higher end simracing stuff gets overwhelmingly expensive, but at 670 euros this rim's build quality and functionality makes me want to ask "what the hell is worth that money on it?"
Bro.. its still mainstream level wheel - just above the entry ones at about 599. Listen, whoever said golf was an expensive sport, has never experienced the thrill of simracing XD edit: im not saying its fully worth it - but then again, im not saying its not. Worth is subjective.
Golf is a hell of a lot more expensive than sim racing here in Ireland. If the grips and o-rings weren’t worn, my opinion would be that this wheel is worth it
@@LaurenceDusoswa man, when people start showing off their mea culpas and ultimates on simlab p1 with a motion rig... u know appartment downpayment territory, i highly doubt a set of decathlon golf clubs could beat our not so cheap hobby XD
I think for the price its difficult to find a better wireless formula style wheel for SC2. I never switch mine off, it quickly goes into sleep mode and you wake it up by pulling both paddles. It's not perfect, but looking at the comments, it deserves more credit. I've always used mine with gloves and the alcantara is holding up well. I know that people reported issues with it peeling off the handles, but afaik grips can be replaced and AR has very good reputation for after sales support.
Yes you are correct. This wheel low has the updated grips and looks like new! Really great customer service. I didn’t know about the sleep mode! Thanks for commenting!
mate, if your SC2 plays an alarm when idle it means you don't have the latest firmware, ver 2020.7 it has been out for a while now, and the beeping are no longer a thing.
Thank you. I'm not delighted with it. Upon rewatching it, it looks like a poor quality product but in reality, most Ascher customers will never get this experience as this was a very very early model wheel. I feel like I owe them a follow up review.
Welcome! That would be cool! I got your point though, and I liked that it was somewhat different than most I’ve seen. I still get that it’s a high quality product, with some caveats you pointed, moreover they were attentive to address it, which speaks a lot about the service 😎
Couple of things. I dont understand why making a video before contacting Ascher about the grips felt like a good idea. 7 months before making the video, seems like plenty of time to reach out. The quality of the new grips are much different, how ever, i did want the Alcantara grips, and i have been offered a set from Ascher, but opted not to. I also dont understand how you have no knowladge on the grip material being alcantara, a very common product used on wheels for many many many years. The reason for the mention on leather on the website, was indeed cos they found out there was issue with the alcantara. I do own this wheel also, and the quality compared to Fanatec is non compareable, your critic of the stickers is valid, but your mention of the Fanatec button caps, shows lack of experiance to me, as i can tell you that, the caps tend to crack and fall off after 8 to 12 months on the fanatec wheels. Having owned serveral Fanatec rims and this Ascher, i know what i would buy if i had to do it all over. Other than that, good video, but i feel like its lacking in areas, for being a complete and compitent review.
Yep, valid observations. The wheel belongs to a friend who did contact ascher but got no response. I don’t have any contact or relationship with ascher and could only go on my friend’s word. However, since then ascher have sent brand new upgraded handles and proven their great customer service record. I have no concerns about quality for ascher products. This was an early batch apparently and can’t happen again.
The leather looks much better compare to my OMP-wheel after 2 months, since suede like Alcantara always looks old in no time, with or without gloves. Smooth lever holds up much better, but doesn't provide good grip. The only material I know that holds up well and provides good grip is rubber-like plastic that my old Thrustmaster came with, but than people will complain about the cheap feel of it I guess.
Yeah it’s a tough one. Apparently this IS alcantera and they switched to leather because of this issue but I cannot confirm that as I only have that as second hand info.
@@LaurenceDusoswa The website is saying genuine leather and if yours is, you can probably still smell it. But it's out of stock since probably a year or so and he might only sell them to the people who send an eMail-notification. I also send him mine because maybe I buy one since I own a SC2 Pro since a few weeks. I own an Ascher 'buttonplate' since 01/18 and still happy with it. I had one defect (paddle-shifters not working) probably due to a loose cable inside, but it got fixed fast.
That’s a real bummer about the quality. We use gloves to slow down the wear and tear process. At 7 months it looks years old almost. I still like this wheel over all of Fanatecs new formula wheels. Aesthetically speaking. In my opinion Fanatec has taken an over designed approach that’s left the wheels looking way to busy and tacky looking. They look more like bro dude gaming peripherals rather then replicas of something you’d find in race car. Just my opinion. AR scores a ton of points in my book for keeping it simple.
Yep it’s almost perfect and if they have addressed these issues I will make it my business to get ahold of one and give it a second review. So much so that I’ll clearly Mark this one as out-dated and resolved.
I believe this is the one George Russell (Williams Racing F1 driver) has in his sim! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fl4NQz_h1rM.html Here is proof! Great review as always LD!
They shouldn’t. Barry and will are wizards and I would love to be on their level. But you cannot deny the wear and tear here, whatever about my subjective opinions.
