Asda George Air Fryer 3.2L Unbox Review and First Cook Check out out Air Fryer unboxing, review and first cook. See you in the video! Air Fryer Ideas Crumpets - • Weird Things in the Ai... #airfryercooking
I bought one when it was on offer, i have no regrets, very basic, easy to use, cooks well, i have cooked fish, sausages, hoime chips, bacon, chops, no problems. I also bought a ninja for £40.00 the person could not get on with it. so i have 2 whoopppeeee! love them both.
£24 bargain price. As we are using ours more we can see some cases where some features of a larger model would come in handy but a lot depends on what is cooking. We still have so many things to try yet so plenty to go at yet. Wishing you a great evening.
What a great review, I never watch them all the way thru, but you 2 messin around was fun to watch. I was in 2 minds about which air fryer to buy, thanks this has helped make my mind up.
Love an airfryer, ours is the most used item in our kitchen, our oven is just a feature in our kitchen these days.weve got a double range cooker and can't afford to switch it on these days, great review yet again 👍
This is good news to hear that yours is so well used. We have tried a few things in ours so far and the results have been great. We will be making some videos on our makes with the air fryer in the future. Any tips to share for home made chips?
@@ShaneAndLisa I just chop my chips as normal rinse them, pat them dry, then put them in a bowl, toss them in oil and plenty of seasoning, and airfry for about 30-40mins on 190-200,suppose it depends which airfryer you've got, mine is a few years old now so yours could be better and more powerful, just keep tossing them as they're cooking, everyone likes there chips different don't they.obviously they don't come out as crispy as if you'd fried them but mine are always tasty.👍
I tried those plum dumplings from lidl, 15 mins to cook to perfection, I also did the Ikea swedish meatballs also 15 mins, there are a lot of things you can do In a air fryer
I bought this model for my granddaughter they are ideal for frozen food cooks it quickly without make the kitchen smell from the time spent in the oven.
You can't go wrong with an air fryer. I've saved an enormous amount in electricity since I got one about a year ago. I hardly ever use my main double oven any more. I paid considerably more for my Ninja Foodi, but it is a very good quality product and also comes with a pressure cooker lid. Cooking chips is much healthier than frying. Frozen chips don't need any oil, and chips made from e.g. Maris Piper fresh potatoes only need a tablespoon of oil. You need to reduce cooking times for some foods, because air fryers are quite fierce. Just a case of practice and trial and error.
Thanks for the tips. We're learning but it is all good so far, trying sausages tonight. Think we have seen the one you have and did not know it was pressure cooker too. That must expand the possibilities. Wishing you a great evening.
Excellent news, we are both pleased you found the review useful. If you take a look a few videos more recent than this we made a handful of videos making different meals in it, might be useful. Wishing you a great evening, Shane and Lisa xx
husband treated us to an air fryer from B&M last month. I had fancied one before but he wasn't so sure but he had watched some on you tube and decided he was interested. Now last thing we really needed was another kitchen gadget you name it we have it from a halogen oven to two multi pressure cookers ( he bought me the first one a three litre we loved it but as I batch cook it was a little small so we checked them out and bought a six litre) we both love to cook so kitchen gadgets have accumulated over the years. I was surprised at the fact yours said 16 minutes for chips though ours takes 10 at max chicken nuggets and onion rings about 8. I am most impressed with the fact I can cook the part baked crusty ro s in 7-8 mins depending on how dark you want the bread.. Ours is a 3.75 litre I've done a roast lamb dinner and a roast beef with no complaints in under half the time of using an oven. I am planning on baking in it today to try that function out too We paid £49 for it but as we had a credit slip when a bookcase we ordered from them on libraries faulty one shelf was a slightly different colour to the other 7 so they offered to refund half the cost we literally got it for free as well as several other items It's definitely been one of our better buys as far as good prep goes in several years.
We never thought to look in B&M when we were looking to buy ours, will keep them in mind in the future. Cooking times for ours I expect is down to the element which from the brief read of the instructions is around 1.4kW. Part Baked rolls... yes please! We went out this morning to get some but out of stock locally so they are on the big shop list, cannot wait to try them.
I got the Tower Pro (with rotisserie function) and haven't used my cooker since. Had home made KFC today and after 30 minutes it was ready (just add fries after 10 minutes). Total cost less than £2.00 for 3 pieces of Chicken and fries.
@@ShaneAndLisa Love it. So far have done a couple of Chickens, Boned leg of Pork and a gammon joint, all moist and delicious. you can add roast potatoes etc to the Air Fryer while the meat is resting, as they only take 20-25 minutes to cook.
It's better to use silicone tools so you don't scratch the non-stick finish. I use my air fryer for nearly everything now, instead of the oven. Happy cooking.
Brilliant tip, thank you for sharing this. We are currently using the one-fits-all kitchen utensils, time for an upgrade. Thanks for taking the time to comment, we appreciate it.
@@ShaneAndLisa You're welcome. You probably only need a turner and a pair of tongs. I'm off to make a toasted ham and cheese sandwich in my air fryer now. 😋
Hi there..I bought the same one a few weeks ago when they were on sale for £35...first time buyer and was wondering why everyone was raving about them.. we are a family of 5..and with 3 teenage kids...this thing is a godsend!! They can all do their own teas when I'm busy on a night 🤣..lol Jokes a side...I thing this little beauty is the best gadget I have ever bought... We do our home made chips like the other person that commented about drying seasoning ect...but here is the good bit...I add different sauces to the chips...just a little of each...everyone can have their favourite flavours..sriracha, ketchup, brown sauce, sweet chilli...whatever takes your fancy...I even put some slices peppers and onions in half way ...a meal in itself... Anyway..loved watching your video and hope enjoy your new aid fryer x
Hi Pam, That was a nice discount to £35, we missed out on that offer. We'll be trying home made chips again now that we have found out where we went wrong 😅everyday is a learning day as they say. Nice tip on the peppers and sauces too. We shall be filming as we continue to try more things in the air fryer, look forward to reading from you again soon. Wishing you a great evening.
@@ShaneAndLisa I'm in the same boat as you...newbie to this and love reading other people's tips..going throught your playlist...great content...keep it up 😍
Fantastic video guys! Thank you, I was and at time of typing am unsure about going ahead - not now! Now it's the size question. Small kitchen, only me. The thermal video clip 👏!
We have a breville halo plus air fryer. for the last 4 years It has been brilliant and still going strong, It was £79 at the time of buying and well worth It we use it almost daily, roasties In It are amazing
@@ShaneAndLisa Just a little, oh the amount of use I could find with them at work, I am a cook at a nursing home, although we would have to have at least ten of them with the amount of food we do lol
Ahhh yes, bulk catering is another level. Respect, timing everything to be ready at the same time not an easy task at all. Guess some of the proper catering ovens and equipment help when scaling up meals though?
@@ShaneAndLisa It Is far easier to cook for plenty than a few, we cater for 38 plus the staff, I am on 12.40 per hour, it Is a good job, I do 8am till 6pm 4 says a week, and loving It
It looks just like my CHEFMAN air fryer. After a few years, the handle got wobbly, and I found a small screw on the kitchen floor. I didn't make the connection until one day I pulled out the drawer and was left holding the handle. The cook pan was on the floor! Luckily, I have silicone oven gloves and was able to get it up. Once cooled, and the food was out, I replace the one screw left, with a slightly bigger one, and put another one in the empty hole. I wondered why it was leaking grease. Once that was done, it worked great again. So something to look out for down the road. The silicone feet will eventually give out on the removable tray. Mine has a little wire handle in the middle of the round tray, a pain for cooking a burger, but OK for chicken thighs or anything you can put on either side of it. I haven't used my big propane range for years and mainly use my air fryer and microwave to cook. The video was a bit spinny and whipping about with the camera, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. Jon in rural BC, Canada
Hi Jon, thanks for your comment. Canada from what we have seen is a beautiful country, one day we plan to visit. We shall check for loose fixings, thanks for the heads up on that. Lucky to have the gloves handy to deal with the smoking hot pan. Our tray has some larger holes in the centre, we have cooked some burgers but only the cheap thin ones so far, no issues and cooked great. Thanks for the filming feedback. As you've gathered we're running and walking at the same time, amazing how heavy the camera is at arms length... we will have supersize forearms in no time. Filming and edits we are working on to improve as we learn. Wishing you a great week ahead.
I got a similar one. Got mine from sainsbury, the dials are stiff ,works fantastic for reheating pizza 🍕 👌 on mine they recommend you but a table spoon of oil in it ..God bless you and your family 👪..Lee
Hi Lee, thanks for your comment, always appreciated. Can see that reheating pizza it would heat it up a treat and a lot easier than other methods. Wishing you well and hope you enjoy the rest of the week 🙃
Thank you. Price wise we have more versatility than if we had purchased a standard fryer. It was our first one so best to test the water than shell out a higher price. So far it is all positive, we shall be filming some more with this for sure. The cat loves boxes, it was in and out of the box for an hour afterwards 😅
Hi,I bought the same model from my local asda, but have just realised that on mine, the timer does not to tick down after the 20min point,it still Carey's on clocking and does not turn off.only 6months old,and didn't realise till I went to cook a full chicken in it.set the timer to highest time (30min) ,looked back after 15mins,and it was still at 30mins.i have lost receipt, but bought on my bank card.im hoping to get it exchanged tomorrow 😢Nice appliance, but didn't find fault till using longest setting. Rod😢😢
Take the tray out the bottom of it if you can. It's for fat to drip through. You get more room in it then for things like chips and nuggets etc. I've got a similar one off QVC and it's the most used appliance in my house. Obviously it's quite small and wouldn't be good for cooking a massive family dinner but to throw the stuff you did in it works a treat. Also does steaks pretty good too. But yeah take the tray out of the bottom for more room. Just use it when you cook anything fatty.
@@ShaneAndLisa I can only speak for my experience with the QVC one which in principal is the same. It doesn't impact on anything. If anything I found it better. When Im cooking chips for example it makes it easier to give them a shake whilst cooking. On the one I've got if you shake the contents whilst cooking the tray used to come out. Removing the tray for things that aren't fatty I found worked a lot better. Then if you're cooking sausages or something fatty put the tray back in. Plus it's one less thing to wash if it's not in
Chips were great and had a fantastic crunch. We have some more ideas to film using the air fryer. For the price we are happy to have chosen to buy this instead of another (replacement) deep fat fryer.
@@ShaneAndLisa yes I have toyed with buying one, space is the problem. However I do cook scollops in a frying pan now and then which are good. But I guess the time will come. So yep be interested in your future endeavours. Thanks.
I've got the Asda bigger one (and a two drawer one) I've cooked a lot of the same things as others have mentioned also .cooked a whole chicken bread pudding and muffins in the bigger one
Thanks for your comment Doreen. All the suggestions have been great and we would have never considered muffins. We now have so many ideas to try. Thank you for adding to the list. We are going to be busy for some time trying them all out.
This one is handy and has been great to get started. So far there has been a couple of times a bigger/twin drawer would have been handy. At some point in the future no doubt we'll swap it out.
I forgot to say, you need non stick tools like a silicon spatula and tongs, or you'll scratch the nonstick surface of the drawer - and get an oil sprayer you can fill up yourself, a spritz of oil means crispier, browner food
brilliant i actually stopped using mine for over a year ,i couldnt stand cleaning it ,then i discovered foil and the grease proof paper or the large coffee paper .it cuts down on the cleaning ,i dealy cook stuff one at a time
the one l bought for $69nz had a digital display and a lift out basket, same time and temperature limits bur it did have some presets, digital l dont care about but the lift out basket is a must, also my bottom is not flat its peaked to send the air back up so there is no need to flip burgers or steak as it browns on the bottom as good as the top. the 2 cons are the 30 minute timer and not big enough for a family roast
Greetings to you in NZ. Thanks for the tips too. We've only make basic stuff so far but so far so good. We will consider getting a larger one in the future as this one manages for two but for family use we are on eating shifts.
I bought this same fryer 6 months ago, used pretty much everyday, happy with it till yesterday when it's trip the electric out, and it's now stopped heating up, certain it's the heat element that's gone (abit rubbish after only 6 months use ☹️) and i dont have the receipt. does any know if can get replacement heat elements for this make of fryer, save me having to buy another brand new one, tried Google with no look, links to any would be appreciated
From the symptoms does sound like the element which should last longer. Have you returned it to Asda, as it's their product perhaps they would offer an exchange without the receipt. Alternatively can you match it to a card payment from a bank statement.
You can put more chips in are fryer than you put in as you put your chick nuggets on top and onion rings on top and they were cooked you can putvhops bacon sausage even meat snd chicken in airfryer
We cooked sausages today and cooked in about half the time overall from start to finish compared to the oven. Less washing up too, we cannot fault it at all.
We have a two draw one, have not used my oven since getting it, even did a Sunday roast , whole chicken in one draw, roast potatoes in the other wouldn't be without it
Well. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion I guess. I've had mine about a year & I find it OK. It replaced a worn out, & increasingly fragile TEFAL ActiFry. The ActiFry has a sweeping arm that, allegedly, turns the food; more often it breaks the food up if used(!). The George doesn't. The TEFAL has a transparent lid (not for long it doesn't!) so you can watch the food. The George doesn't & you have to pull the 'draw' out to view - but then you'll be manually turning the food anyway. The TEFAL has digital timing & cook settings where the George's timer is a vague 'clockwork' & the temperature setting is a thermostat type knob. The TEFAL is £100± where as the George is £45. Just saying.
Hi Graham, thanks for your comment with plenty of points and comparisons on Tefal Vs Asda. Cannot see any disagreements from anyone certainly us, we've enjoyed our Asda airfryer most days. Wishing you a great weekend, Shane and Lisa xx
You'll be sorry you didn't buy a bigger one.... I got a Cosori 5.8 litre with a 9 inch basket, can get a whole chicken in it, or a frozen breaded fish fillet and chips together... Sausages are fantastic cooked in an air fryer I've found - cook in 12/14 minutes and really juicy inside... But I'll still be doing the Christmas roast in my ordinary big oven
Thanks for your comment. We can agree with you at this point, this one is on the small size. For a first one though it is enlightening us to the possibilities of air frying so we are sure we will be upgrading once we've gained more cooking experience in this one.
@@ShaneAndLisa Yea good idea, I just wanted to make sure I could fit in what I wanted to cook so went straight for a larger one. Dunno why they call them air fryers, they;re really mini convection ovens
@@emeldaify Amazon, but the only difference between 5.8 and 5.5l appears to be the advertising wording - sometimes listed as 5.8 as it was when I got mine, also listed as 5.1.
Hi Jan, it was this one we got ( title and link below). £9.99 with 10% off at the moment. Meat Thermometer, DOQAUS Instant Read Cooking Thermometer, Digital Food Thermometer, Backlight LCD Screen Foldable Long Probe & Auto On/Off, Perfect for Kitchen Cooking, BBQ, Water,Meat, Milk (Black) amzn.eu/d/4rdiN1v
hi there that size is very small mine is a 9litre with a self-cleaning feature I use it every day for everything I cook my tip to you is DONT OVER FILL IT,and remember that can be very hot so keep that in mind and rethink your cooking times
Hi Julia, many thanks for your comment. Yes, it was the only one available to purchase from our local store. Perfect for us trying one out for the first time. Thanks for your tips, we are still learning and adjusting cooking times as we use it more and more. The results so far have been great.
Hi Craig yes it is quiet in comparison to the other appliances. I'd say quieter than the main oven. Perhaps even a little quieter than our standalone microwave too.
Hi, thanks for your comment :) We titled it as a question '[is it a] waste of money?' where we show in the video that we were happy and it was a good purchase for anyone thinking of buying one.
@@jetblack.7186 ok, thanks for letting us know about this. We don't see this in the editor so it is useful to know to improve the placement of any thumbnail text. Thanks again. Appreciated :)
Thanks for your comment Jim. A bigger size would certainly be better for us all. At this moment to test out how we got on within it being our first air fryer it had tuned out ok. By halogen do you mean one of those larger units heated by the halogen lamp? If so how have you got on with that in terms of advantages over the air fryer?
@@ShaneAndLisa it is the same thing if you look at your air fryer you will see a lamp inside and when i was in Robert Dyas they had a Halogen oven that had been renamed air oven I think or something similar
Yes. Much bigger space. A whole chicken 40 minutes on a "chicken" setting. And still room for your veg below. Best chicken you'll ever taste. Beats the air fryer every time for me and we have both. Will cook a whole pizza in 10 minutes perfectly as the heat is fan assisted below and above withe plenty of room. You can't do that in an air fryer Costs under £35 and instant heat. I have a "Von Shef" from Amazon. 6th year and not a problem. Very economical. You can see inside the top glass lid so no opening to peek. Self cleaning setting. For me all together a better system. You do need the space to stord it though.
The 3.2L was the only one in our Asda. We would have liked to have gone for the larger one but this was perfect for us to get started having never used one before. How much was your 6.2L one?
@Welham Orchard I paid £58 for it I've had it about 4 weeks it has the digital display I've put off getting one for around 2 years in so glad I finally bit the bullet
@@ShaneAndLisa I've tried steak, pork chops, bacon, sausages, chips, chicken strips, chicken burgers, beef burgers, steak pies,I want to try gammon at some point and a pork joint and I tried roast potatoes all came out great
Hi Joseph I think this style/model does seem to be offered be a few sellers. When we looked all the Amazon own brands were out of stock leaving only more expensive models available.
Bought one on amazon for 50 pounds.Turned out to be a scam.I paid my money but no air fryer.Eventually got my money back off Amazon .....after a lot of hassle.
Sorry I don't think this is a good idea? At 900 watts and chips need 18 minutes? With limited capacity and take it out and clean for a oven with a fan (because that is what it is ) ? I considered one only to go down the microwave combination route. Although not perfect a microwave and convection combo is faster and more versatile? On a side note just so you know how mad I am I use a electric pressure cooker to heat all my water (apart from shower) , it's not quite so convenient as turning on the hot tap, but advantages are cost and water as hot as you like ! Tks for your video, YT guided me to your channel, this is me saying hello. Best wishes.
Hi Rob, thanks for the comment and also views from your perspective. We’re always interested to read thoughts on the topic. Pretty sure it’s 1400watts so still quite a high energy use, however I did notice the thermostat control so hard to say the average usage, maybe half at 700W. Would need one of the plug usage devices to get an accurate usage over time. Benefits for two I can see lots, two adults and tea would be done and over in 20 mins. More than two the practicalities drop off for lots of reasons, size being the main one but also choice and capabilities with fussy eaters. We have made meals in a combination microwave so it’s on topic the points you made. At this moment in time I’d perhaps say this is likely to see more use than the combi. It will be interesting to see if this changes over time as often it’s easy to over use at the start but is that still the case after say a year. We do have some plans to run some videos in the future using the combi microwave to cook up some delights so will be interesting to revisit at that time and reflect on your comment. Pleased that YT sent you, look forward to reading from you again.
@@ShaneAndLisa That's smashing. I got the 900 Watts from the specs on a asda website, maybe i got that wrong ? I think it's like most things is life you either take to them or you don't? Hope you enjoy your air fryer. I'll pop back and take a look at more of your videos. 73 .(That's best wishes in radio speak) .
Many thanks for your comment. With the question mark, it is a question as in "[is this a] waste of money?" Food was great and we liked it. As those watching the video will see, we answered the question making it clear we liked the air fryer and the food so can recommend.
We’ve seen one with shelves. Guess with the chips closer to the heat it reduces the cooking time. Is this the one where the shelves are reversible for two level settings?
@@ShaneAndLisa there are 3 shelves and a rotisserie. It also came with a grilling plate and stand. I have small stoneware dishes rectangular shape that fit on shelves so can do cottage pie too. I cook chicken pieces and roast potatoes in less time too. 😋
This one was a 'lets try' an air fryer rather than buy a replacement deep fat fryer. So far it has turned out great and we may look for a 2 drawer one in the future. Thank you for the comment. Do you have any recipe ideas for us to try?
Thanks Ann. A little secret... we cooked up seconds. They really were fantastic. Crispy, crunch, fluffy inside, a winner. We have some own brand to try and we shall schedule a comparison at some point soon. This was our first venture with an air fryer, previously we had a mini fryer until it broke. So far we are really impressed with this and will be using it for more videos. Stay tuned. Do you have any air fryer meal recommendations for us to try out?
@@ShaneAndLisa I'm still learning myself, I usually ask RU-vid how to do what I want. My most recent try was crispy dumplings, I made them too big and they didn't cook in the middle, but I will keep trying.
@@ShaneAndLisa Maybe you've already tried doing sausages, but anyway I cook sausages in 10 minutes at 190°C. I turn the sausages over after 5 minutes. It works every time, whatever the sausage brand is. Aldi cheaper brand, Tesco Finest, even genuine German Bratwurst from Lidl. I use my instant temperature probe to check they're done.
Agree it is lacking in size. I'm sure we will end up with another at some point in the future. This one is great for getting used to the ropes so to speak.
Potato wedges, roasties, sausage, Southern fried chicken fillets, vegetarian chicken nuggets, all have been frozen, I also make my own potato wedges in a foodbag with about tablespoon of oil with various seasonings make sure all wedges are coated then empty wedges into fryer. I usually shake the drawer a couple of times during cooking I mean to try Yorkshire puddings, egg muffins, Between that, my microwave, halogen oven and slow cooker I haven't used my oven in about 5 years. It's spotless and now omly used to store all my cooking trays, and tins. Never have to clean greasy oven again. Enjoy your airfryer.
Pretty sure someone else had a similar experience with chips. The ones we tried were great. Not sure if it might be down to the brand. We tried to make some ourselves (homemade) but these did not turn out good. Read some comments that was down to out prep though so we will try again.
Others are indeed using them for home made chips... we've still to master these. There was a previous comment that mentioned drying and then oiling/seasoning prior to air frying.
