A few tips to people who live in Sweden and aren't sure of if the bjd hobby is for them or not. Join bjd forums on Facebook, Swedish or worldwide ones. Learn more, check out other peoples dolls, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Most bjd people are very nice and willing to share information and knowledge if they can. Company websites for BJD's also have a lot of useful information. You can also go to the doll convention Jointed Hearts wich is held in Göteborg every year. Often around the end of August or beginning of September. Another tip is to try to find and go to doll-meets/meet with people near you who owns one or more dolls. You might feel a little awkward joining a doll-meet without a doll, but the people in this community are mostly very very nice, and if you would tell them why you'd like to join even if you don't have a doll (yet) I bet many would think it's a great idea that you join their meet and get a feel for the dolls and the hobby before buying one. It might help you decide wich size bjd you want and things like that. Doll-meets are the perfect place to find people within the hobby that might live near you, you'll often become friends, and they'll often introduce you to their other doll-friends as the hobby isn't super common here in Sweden. On doll-meets you'll be able to see some bjd's in real life, maybe even the doll you're thinking of buying, or perhaps you'll find another doll that interests you more after you've seen it for real. If you're careful and ask politely most people will let you touch and handle their doll so you can get a feel for if it would be a good doll for you. So join a meet, have a fika and talk about dollies, crafts and other fun things~ =) Anime/cosplay conventions like NärCon and similar events often have doll meets, and sometimes there's even some doll stuff for sale in their shops or "Aristist alley" and such. And remember, a lot of things that aren't doll stuff can be used as or made into doll stuff
I live in sweden and ordered from Angelesque, the postage is £20 to here and theyre UK based so it arrives fast once it arrives from the manufacturing company.
where I live, I seem to be the only one who knows about bjds. However, most people who I tell about them seem to understand it as being similar to collecting porcelain dolls, so I don't really get a lot of judgment. Would LOVE a bjd community in my area though!
Oh yes, they are very good for self esteem. When I get the chance to tell a person about them that I'm not very close to, I feel that I can throw away my bashfulness and all the words come flooding out. I really come out of my shell. A I had no problem taking one to my college speech class for my first presentation. It went very well! :-)
I'm a bit skeptical about myself now. I absolutely love this hobby and I've been saving for months and I finally ordered my doll! But the thing is that I'm only 14 and though I love dolls so much I'm really afraid that I may be too young to buy it because everyone else in the hobby is much older than me. I still want and love BJDs tho. And I would love to take care of one. Just.. Does my age matter?
don't worry, as long as you're willing to take care of the doll and you're willing to learn new things about the hobby, I'd say go for it! you already seem to love the hobby too, so that's a good start :D
xD the con u said about your Aunt saying the dolls will kill you in your sleep, my family members don't like the dolls I want to get either, my little sisters are really excited for me to get one, but not my older sis or parents. My dad was like 'can't you get something more normal and not that scary looking?' My mom didn't really approve of them either... I really am thinking about getting a Doll Chateau for a firstie, but I'm not sure. I'm really nervous that if I do, my parents might take it from me or my sissies would start playing around wif it and break it....
Hmmm yeah my family is pretty supportive now :s Sometimes waiting might be the better option. I am not sure how old you are but saving money isn't a bad thing :) save up your money and wait for a better time. You could also save and get more awesome things too :D

For my minimee Alucard Castlevania head i waited ONE YEAR!!! awesome video by the way. I'm trying to drag people in this hobby for years now but it's just not popular at all in my country. I think there's only 3 people here who own dolls T__T feeling lonely.
I would add that fear of buying from the wrong people is only a con if you don't know where to look like bjdcollectasy. research is key when considering the bjd hobby. Also, as a pro, I use my bjd's for drawing. I even brought one of them to an art class and he was a huge hit with my classmates. They all wanted to use him as their model so my teacher put him in the center so they could all see. I just had to tell them not to touch his face.

BUT I do try to do a lot of research when I buy things :D That is awesome you brought your doll to art class!!! That is so cool you all had a chance to draw him :D that would be cool to see all the pictures :D
I'm never able to join your streams and watch the 1 + videos since I never have the time ;-; Yeah the bjd hobby is expensiiiiive and difficult get what you want if you live in remote areas/countries that barely knows of the hobby. I would love to get my baby Noir a new face, but I'm not confident in my face painting skill yet :I and getting him a boyfriend would be lovely *sighs* oh wellll

Yeah I can only imagine what people in the other countries have to go through when getting a doll :o If you are still worried about doing faceups maybe try getting a practice head or even just something like sketching them out :D I like to practice eyelashes and eyebrows on a sketch pad :) Hang in there!
+AsenvaBJD yeah, especially if you're not allowed to buy over the internet yet.... and the fact that I'm poor, whomp. Yeah, I like to do faces on monster high dolls, they're perfect training heads imo, and I like so much that I have gotten eleven of them into my doll family ;;; I think that's enough of monster high dolls for me, lol.

Judgement is not a hate speech, it's what allows us to tell right from wrong and have a moral code. "Teaches responsibility and provide you something to care for.."- That's just a doll, not an animal or any kind of living creature! " They kind of become part of your family.." - Again, it's just a DOLL. "For some, it gives people body positivity"- If you compare yourself to a doll, you're a moron. Go do diet and exercise or find other things that make you great. You can't choose your body, but you can choose your personality and imporve your talents. In my opinion, the greatest con of bjd is the community which 99% of them, if not all of them are annoying lefties on some extent . I saw a tumblr of a bjd owner who support Bernie Sanders, yeah good luck with saving money for your fricking bjd while having to waste your entire money on taxes to accomplish you stupid social justice war.
Not to mention there is no real discussion in bjd forums, people just show off their dolls and excpet other people to compliment them...so boring and full of ego.

Heck I know the world isn't filled with rainbows and sunshine BUT if some people want to try to find more light and put a positive spin on things I think that's great. I hope that you get more positive experiences in the community.
