I listened to this so many times in middle school, and this just popped up in my recommended for the first time in like 6 years and while I expected myself to cringe at all the memories of my Pokémon phase, I can safely report this holds up. Banger.

6 years later and this is still a banger. Pokémon the series XYZ came out when I was a freshman in high school and I would listen to this song constantly.

This song is amazing, the instruments, the lyrics and the overall message of never giving up on your passion, and to get better at not just what you want to do, but what you need to do get stronger each and everyday, as you have friends by your side willing to do whatever it takes to help you. The determination, bonds and your willingness to help not just yourself but the people around you. IT'S JUST SO PERFECT I JUST CAN'T The feeling when the adrenaline flows and your mind just goes, it's a feeling you can't explain. Near the end the singer actually sang Pokémon’s famous slogan “gotta catch em all.” That’s actually my favorite part! Not to mention the “shock em like a Thunderbolt” and “stronger than a Hyper Beam”!

I still think Gen 4 was when Ash was at his best. But Gen 6 was when he embraced the shonen and all its tropish goodness. To bad he couldn’t embrace the “tournament” aspect of the shonen trope.

I still can’t believe they went from this to Sun and Moon, it felt like such a downgrade! 😞 I read somewhere though that the reason this happened is because the more serious version of Ash and smooth animation style of XY was extremely popular with Western audiences but it didn’t go down well with Japanese audiences. They instead preferred the over the top style animation with exaggerated expressions and slapstick comedy which is why Sun and Moon looked the way it did.

The Japanese one sounds much better even if I cant understand a single word.
