2:12, 2 lads I worked with had this, they stopped at traffic lights on a slight hill and the car in front slowly rolled crept back [inch by inch]until it came to rest touching their front bumper, [the handbrake was slipping and not holding the other car still on the hill] they were confused because the woman in the car was looking at them in the rear view mirror while were car was creeping back towards them, She got out looked at the 2 cars touching bumper to bumper, then walked around to their window and angrily said “I suppose you think that’s that bloody funny, it’s a red light I can’t go anywhere!” She was convinced that she was stationary the whole time and that they were the ones creeping up on her . When they informed her that it was she who rolled back on them she was adamant she hadn’t and stormed off in a huff.

13:19 what annoys me even more are the people who are perfectly legally parked on the side of the road on a parallel park, with cars in front and behind them, yet they still use their hazard lights. Looks to me like they're indicating to get out because all I see is the right indicators. Utterly pointless. A good tip to note for some vehicles is that the indicator flash timing is different to the hazard light flash timing. At least on my Ford Focus, the time the lights are illuminated when the hazards are on is shorter than it is for indication. Say for example the indocator stays on for half a second and off for half a second for it's sequence, for the hazard lights it would be on for a third of a second and off for two thirds of a second. Have used this knowledge to help in situations like this a few times.
@smilerbob
@smilerbob 54 минуты назад
The timing of the flash can be, or at least with old fashioned incandescent lights, used to determine a failed bulb. Less resistance affects the flashing relay resulting in a really quick flash timing 👍 I think a similar principle applies for the hazard lights but I would rely solely upon it for all vehicles as flash timings are different between vehicles. Just look at indicators in a queue waiting to turn right

I appreciate that this is said in jest, but I think it touches on a huge attitude problem with many people. Drivers are in control of 1-2 tons of metal, potentially moving as fast as a sprinting cheetah. Humans *don't* have the cognitive function to do that while observing and processing everything happening, which is why constant risk awareness and assessment is important. Yet many drivers can't be arsed to apply as much cognitive function as an orange cat with their one shared brain cell. It honestly feels miraculous that accident, injury, and death rates are as low as they are.

Last month I was driving down my terraced street with a fire engine in front of me. It came up to a double parked car, beeped several times, about 5 minutes later a bloke came out and moved it to a space further down the street to let us past... Then went and put it back exactly where it was. If it was an emergency the driver of the fire engine may have just decided to turn his car to tinfoil... All for the sake of a two minute walk. I think some people expect to be able to drive to exactly where they're going, and not have to walk at all. They'd park in the living room if they could.

People park wherever they want and put their hazards on, and then get annoyed when you don't let them out (when in reality as you said half the time you don't realise they're indicating right until it's to late - asauming they indicate at all)

😂 here in Greece hazard lights are primarily used as an excuse for poor or illegal parking, double parking closing 1 lane, parking on bus stops and bus lanes and even parking in spots for disabled people. People just stop at the most insane spots just to grab coffee, food, shop, speak with a friend completely ignoring and not caring if the position of their vehicle restricts traffic flow or even blocks a road. They just put on the hazards and everything is fine. And the best part is that most just start driving again with the hazards still on, some not pressing the brakes either to give an indication 😂

It's a worldwide issue. In NSW, Australia, we had a trial of mobile phone detection cameras (I think it was a world first)... I was highly sceptical about these at first, but the data they released, along with example photos was incredible... Thousands of detections in just one month, in a limited geographic area. And some of the photos showed the phone screens so clearly you could tell if they were texting, using Facebook, etc... If they were on a maps app, then fair enough... I get that. But Facebook while driving? How are they not dead?

I sense a certain degree of bad driving is what I call "copycat" bad driving. As an example, folks see other drivers speeding , so they follow suit "to keep up with the traffic". 13:30 your last clip. Hazard light usuage is my absolute pet hate. I drive the A34 often (weekly), (I know you drive it frequently as well), and the amount of people parked in the lay-byes with Hazards on is ridiculous. If you are parked in a parking space you are not a hazard so don’t use the hazard lights, otherwise those driving along the carriageway will start to think “hazard lights: broken down vehicle? Lane one? Lane two? A different obstruction?” And no, it’s just someone who needed to piss in a bush by a parking spot. I have learnt where all the lay-bys are so can now gauge better if it is an actual hazard or if it is going to be someone parked safely somewhere. But I would not be surprised if people start assuming hazard lights are just someone in a parking area so people driving the main carriageway start not preparing for an actual hazard after seeing hazard lights

At around 6:30 I hate it when another driver does a very close "follow through" on me just as I've passed them , often for no reason. I've had numerous people cut in over gaps at crossings and keep clear boxes because people are opportunists and the concept of 'better flow' escapes them. I will still be leaving gaps and resenting every person who is selfish and blocks the road by taking the gap I made. The way I look at it, they are holding the traffic hostage to get what they want. And if they do that, I expect they will also do other things worthy of points and fines elsewhere. I also leave gaps for driveways and dropped curbs to let traffic cutting through get out of the way because that one time you don't, that's the time someone will need into their driveway.

People using hazard lights while illegally parked annoy me for the exact reason you mentioned. There _is_ a benefit to reaching the next set of lights five seconds sooner btw: say the complete cycle of the traffic lights takes 90 seconds. Getting there five seconds later means a 5 in 90 (1 in 18) chance the lights are going red when you arrive and you're going to eat an avoidable 60-second delay before the lights go green again. If you're driving a bus that 60 seconds matters.
