Totodile and Bayleef were some of Ash's cutest Pokémon in terms of personality. As much as I wish Ash's early Pokémon evolved more often, I doubt Totodile would have had the same cute energy throughout evolution. Although a dancing Feraligatr or even Croconaw is funny to imagine.
Ash’s Totodile arguably has the most endearing personality of all his pokemon. Its hard to decide if would be better off staying as it is and keeping its personality and dancing, or evolving and risk losing its iconic dance. A dancing crocawnaw/feraligatr that’s also a powerhouse sounds fun. They could have had it evolve at a later time like they did with Cyndaquil
Hehe. Totodile... The Pokémon that would go on to inspire Oshawott in a sense. His dancing was certainly adorable, and some of his battles were certainly memorable. However, I wish we could have seen him either evolve and/or bond with Ash more.
I honestly feel like it was because they wanted to keep Totodile's silly and playful personality that ultimately kept it from evolving. Because of this and it's unimpressive battle record that I found it to be less memorable than Ash's Bayleef or Quilava, even if I do think the latter evolved too late to really be notable
Totodile's infectious energy is more than enough to excuse its lack of battle cred. Although, it is hilarious how it defeated that Kingdra in the Whirl Cup Competition. 😂😂
Totodile should’ve evolved. I know none of his water Pokémon besides krabby evolved until Greninja but it would’ve kept with the dragon lizard theme, Charizard, Sceptile, feraligatr. It sucks he was underutilized and it’s weird we’ll never know exactly what pokeball caught him. Great video btw.
One of my favorites among Ashs mons. So much personality and he performed like a beast in the whirl cup. Always thought him being in a lure ball was a nice touch
Your not bc I could tell that he did as well! Also totodile id the only Pokémon to sound like a character from another shows kingler in the anime has a voice that kinda sounds like Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. Pretty cool huh? 😁
Admit it, even you were tempted to dance along with Totodile at some point. When it looked sad or disappointed it breaks my heart. I suggest a video for Goodra it was Ash's first fully evolved Dragon type.
I really wish Totodile had evolved. He could've been an interesting foil to Charizard. Both are large, scaly lizards, but one is an arrogant, fiery, dragon who didn't respect Ash until he literally saved his life, and the other is a joyful, watery alligator/crocodile who loves his trainer as much as he loves dancing. Also, we could've had an actual Regional Ace, instead of just defaulting to Heracross due to being the best of an otherwise "just alright" bunch lol. 9:12 Also, I love how Totodile's effect is different to the others! Nice attention to detail!
I think the reason Tododile never evolved was in order to maintain Misty's image as a Water Type Specialist. Starters way back in the early anime were heavily protected as being the aces of the reason , for Johto I remember them trying to push Feraligatr as the strongest one by having it beat a Blastoise in its debut. Had Tododile evolved , it would have dented Misty's credibility and utility on the group since well Feraligatr would have been broken af ,also as a result Ash wouldn't have had to rely on his reserves from Kanto in the League.
Other than first stage starters just being more marketable, I think the main reason he never evolved is because Ash didn't really start training his Pokemon until Hoenn
Totodile was always one of my favorites, wish he battled more but still awesome! It's odd how many of the comic reliefs of the series were water the fangs water types (Ash's Squirtle, totodile, oshawott, and Corphish plus dawns piplup, brocks ludocolo and misty Psyduck)
Totodile is the absolute best. While he did not evolve, his pure happiness with his dancing and energetic personality made him so precious. I adore him so much, so much so I have been obsessively collecting the plushies of him for years. Long live this adorable, happy, dancing, and positive baby. 💙😍😭
As someone who liked the personality quirks, cute moments and generally the fun aspect of Pokémon much more than the action or themes of becoming the very best, I feel what many people miss to see with most of Ash's companions is that they aren't all always serious competitors but just enjoy travelling together on the sightseeing adventure and while getting into competitions from time to time, some Pokémon definitely have different talents than others. With Totodile I see a cheerful and funloving Pokémon who always tends to spread the fun and who is simply content with itself. That might not make for a superinteresting character trope in an adventure story but Pokémon is not just that but a kodomomuke as well, meaning there are those carefree and just plainly jolly-jokey times in it. If I had to pick a career for Totodile by simply how athletic it can be, Pokémon Contests/Pokémon Competitions sound like something Totodile would have been splendid at. Even if Totodile didn't end up at a circus and instead just found a bunch of Pokéfreinds to enjoy his times with at a lab, the character did suffice the role of complimenting other ones greatly in that and at least personally never failed to bring a smile to my face. =3
I’ve been in a Totodile sorta mood lately I started a mystery dungeon run being him And attempted a shiny Totodile hunt Now a prof silver class vid Gnarly
Totodile certainly had plenty of personality as a dancing Casanova but was kind of left out on how brother cyndaquil and sister chikorita each got to evolve into Bayleef and Quilava.
YES! FINALLY! I LOOOVVEE TOTODILE! HE'S MY FAVOURITE POKEMON EVER! Not just starter but Pokemon overall! Clumsy, adorable and loves to bite everything, which is hilarious. 💙🐊💧
To tell the truth, in Johto it was mostly Heracross, Cyndaquil, and Bayleef. But even they felt like like supplements to the pokemon he caught in Kanto and Orange Islands
@jetguy128 they realized they basically had to reset his team every region after this. Charizard was so overpowered early Johto they had to find a way to remove it from his team. Poor Heracross dude didn't get a single gym battle. Also I noticed in Johto league the MVPs were the Kanto starters and Snorlax. Imo the only noteworthy things the johto mons did were Heracross and Bayleef vs Magmar and Houndoom respectively
@@jetguy128 imo here's what it should be Heracross (but actually stays) Bayleef Quilava (it DOESN'T wait till Sinnoh) Quagsire as his water type (Misty gets Totodile instead) Espeon I stand by Ash should've got Espeon as a reference to Red as well as counterparting Gary's Umbreon
As a 90s kid who watched the original series and just finished masters journey, I will always love his positive attitude and how cute he danced. Good substitute for Squirtle once he leaves.
Definitely would've been amusing if Totodile did evolve into a fierce-looking Feraligatr, but still retain its silly little dance. Maybe even incorporating its dancing into its moves more, to give a bit more development. (Like Quilava having issues with its flames and Balyleef's overzealousness at times.)
Double comment for the algorithm. If they kept its goofy personality and fully evolved Totodile, it would make a fantastic foil to Charizard as the only other fully evolved starter. Even their opposite typing adds a thematic layer
If he did evolve imagine it shaking the earth every time it danced as a feraligatr but still taking down full evolved Pokémon is still impressive I wish he trained with gible and dracovish constantly biting and being comic relief trio
Totodile's flutter jump dance made it my favorite line of Pokemon and it still is. It was never the greatest battler, but he just had so much personality, he's never failed to make me smile when he comes on screen.
Now that u think about it why didnt Ash bring Totodile back in Sinnoh for Contests or even showed Tierno his dancing lil bundle of jaws. We couldve seen his dancing improve as well as his battling skill. Still love him though😂
He made be mediocre in battle and had a limited move pool, but he is my favorite Pokémon. Fell in love with him because of the anime. Always admired his spunky spirit.
I wanted Totodile to learn ice punch, he could’ve had a good rivalry with another water type and learned it that way, making for good story and better move coverage. I could easily see Ash using ice punch to make pillars for Totodile to dance across as an improvised dodge mechanic
The writers didn't try to make Totodile good. With a poor win ratio, no Gym wins and a complete lack of development was proof that Totodile was one of Ash's most mishandled mons of all time and why a Feraligatr is more preferable than Totodile. Also, Totodile went the "Pikachu route?" Name the episode where Totodile went the Pikachu route because I sure don't remember it. Also, making way too many filler episodes in Johto is considered "trying their best"?
Since Chikorita evolved into Bayleef, and Cyndaquil evolved in Quilava, it feels like we were robbed that Ash's Totodile didn't join them in evolving into Croconaw
That along with Ash owning all three Johto starters proved why each of them failed as Kanto starter trio successors: Totodile had no Gym wins, a poor win ratio, and a lack of development are the reasons he failed as a Squirtle successor and why Feraligatr is more preferable for Ash Quilava wasted 507 episodes to go from Cyndaquil to Quilava at the Sinnoh League, because the writers thought that "kids love Cyndaquil and he is automatically an awesome Charizard successor" when in reality, Quilava is the main reason why Infernape is the true Charizard successor and why Typhlosion is more preferable for Ash Bayleef is the main reason why Sceptile is the first main protaginist Grass starter to fully evolve, along with the fact that she copied her moveset off Bulbasaur. Just goes to show why Meganium is more preferable for Ash.
Totodile mightve made a good coordinator pokemon and may be the reason it didnt evolve besides its bigger frame making it feel sluggish and less lively.
Also yes he needed to evolve at least once.. it would’ve made the Johto starters( YES STARTERS) have their own specific legacy compared to the ones that’s started it all. By having Totodile evolve to stage 2 he would’ve completed the trio stopping at stage 2 for Ash’s second gen starters.
I'd love to tackle Corphish, I'm proobably going to knock out some SM Pokemon since I've never done them, but Corphish is high on my to-do list, I have most of its script done
Think Totodile needed the following to shine better in Johto Be used against Morty instead of Pikachu to use super effective Bite attack Evolve in Whirl Cup battle against Kingdra Be used against Jasmine in 3 vs 3 gym battle as water resists steel. Jasmine could use Fortress. Be used against Pryce in a 3 vs 3 gym battle as water resists ice. Pryce could use a Sneasal. Also think should've learned Dragon Dance or Sword Dance because of its dancing
Hello there! I was just wondering when we will get a part two (2) of Goh's Scorbunny/Raboot, now a Cinderace. And if you plan to do the other Galar Starters, Sobble and Grookey and hopefully Chloe's Eevee and Yamper. I'm also curious if there was more to Champion Cynthia's Pokémon, I know Garchoml is the main ace but its just I know I haven't missed any lore with them. (Been catching on up the old childhood Pokémon binge, lol. Cynthia still is my fave even years on!!) 💪😎💕
Imagine if Ash caught Fuecoco, and at the end of Ash’s Paldea Journey, left Skeledirge in Oak’s Lab I can tell Skeledirge and Totodile will be BFFs If only Ash continued beyond Galar…
Ash's Totodile is awesome and funny, especially when it bit part of Jessie hair off of her in its debut. That certainly took her and Team Rocket by surprise when they tried to steal Pikachu. The Pokédex was right for warning Trainers that Totodile loves to use its teeth.
Pikachu should've taught him Iron Tail and he should've taught himself Crunch. And make a cameo in Alola where he uses a Darknium Z to upgrade Crunch to Black Hole Eclipse.
Ash’s Totodile is One of MY Fave Totodile in all of Pokemon BUT Yeah couldv’e been handled better Such as at least Evolve to Croconaw & learn moves like Aqua Tail💧, Ice Fang❄️, & since He’s A Dancer, either Rain Dance🌧️ OR Dragon Dance🐉
Ash's Totodile should have been a Feralagtr. It would have been been fitting since starting out he seemed the best of Ashes Jhoto starting types. Plus that's actually a Pokemon I could picture Ash having
If Totodile were too evolve all the way into Feraligatr it would've became his Jotho ace since Charizard's training, Heracross not around much & neither Bayleef or Quilava weren't even close to take the spot since they haven't fully evolved yet but still keep its personality & a strong battler!
I honestly feel like Bayleef was the closest one to being Ash's regional ace in Johto, seeing as she was the only one that actually evolved (at least while Ash was still predominately using them in the region), and arguably had some of the most impressive wins of any of his starters from Jotho as well, including managing to beat a Houndoom one time! That said, I think that Bayleef only didn't evolve fully into a Meganium is because the writers probably thought it would be too feminine of a Pokemon for Ash to own, especially as his ace. Totodile, by comparison, probably didn't evolve because it could be more easily made a silly and funny Pokemon that way
