Excellent interview. You know what? I like you, Ashanti. Now, I do not like yo' voice and music, overall, however I do like you. You seem hella coo' and you're hella pretty. When you first came out, I sure did buy yo' first album. It was just fun and catchy music that anyone could bop to. After _Only U,_ a song that I still love, you kinda lost me. You *REALLY* lost me on _The Way That I Love You._ I had to come to grips w/ something, musically. I started being a music fan in 1990. The way music is marketed, promoted and pushed plays a part into the way I consume music. Sure, if I hear something then I either like it or I don't, but for so many years, I've had this thing to where the music's not 100% legit if it's not presented to me w/o a machine. That means, I have to see that it's on a major record label. I have to go into the store and buy the physical copy. I need to see bells & whistles attached. Yeah, this is an ancient way of thinking, but I'm slowly tryna get over it. Now, yo' live performances are kinda sketchy. When it's good, it's *good.* When it's bad, it's _bad._ Whenever you decide to go outside of yo' range, all bets are off. You're typically flat and pitchy. Whenever you're within yo' range, you're smooth sailing. Now, you do not have an incredible voice by any means, however yo' voice is/was good for radio-friendly songs. WOW! I didn't know that 360 record deals were _that_ bad. I mean, DAMN! When it gets so bad to where they're cutting into' yo' merchandising and touring... That's scary. Maybe Master P was right. Maybe it's best to just work a 9 to 5. The independent route isn't for everybody though. It forces you to let to of yo' ego. Some artists aren't ready to do that. Some artists need a label through and through. This is why I encourage all of my favorite artists to *NOT* put out new music. Not until you know deep down inside that it's right. I hate seeing my favorite artists fall flat, especially when they've put in so many years of hard work. Finally, I do not like yo' new single, Ashanti.
