This is the first video in a Leveling Guide series to assist Asheron's Call players on their journey from 1-275. In this video, I cover character creation, the training academy, and our first quest & kill task to reach Level 10!
As someone who played retail on Darktide, it is so weird seeing someone essentially twink themselves to level 10 inside of half an hour. If you were unaligned, as I originally was, you couldn't hang around town or XP in dungeons because of RPKs. You were born and you immediately skeedaddled into the wilderness, where you spent the next several hours killing everything that walked or crawled. No quest XP, just gradual and grindy critter XP. And it was extremely risky to roll a three-school archer with less than 30 strength because all someone had to do was cast Weakness Other on you and you immediately became a pillbox. Burden was always a concern because casting reagents and multiple quivers were heavy, Fletching was generally reserved for mules. And, originally at least, there was no re-speccing. The beauty of the game was there were so many ways to spec a viable character ... and equally many ways to gimp one. On that note, thanks for sharing. Wouldn't mind seeing more. Keep that nostalgia train running.
mistakes from retail asheron's call: 1. Eliminating spell research 2. Covenant armor and gear power creep in general 3. Bots and addons (not fighting them harder) 4. Burun 5. the great creature-rebalance-pocalypse brought to you by the turbine interns who took over later on 6. facility hub and town network 7. "updating" the lugians and lugian citadels 8. making everything a playable race 9. asheron's call 2 10. casinos 11. spell training npc's in arwic and just the abomination that is the modern arwic city in general 12. weekly tokens 13. level 8 spells 14. the drudge "fort" near holtburg 15. prismatic arrows 16. the entire "master of arms" update in feb 2012 17. the updated drudge, mosswart, banderling and tumerok art models 18. eliminating spell economy 19. nerfing life magic drains 20. not expanding on the gromnies as a creature group in the game 21. replacing the original starter dungeon/locations with the academy 22. nerfing original hoary mattekar robe (was originally UP to all unbuffed) 23. all of the changes to original shadow armor
I’ve been playing AC for years. I didn’t know you could save the UI. It’s interesting seeing how someone else starts out. Leviatras is the best server due to the anti-bottling policy. Otherwise people create groups of multiple characters that they dump in some prime farming spot to steal all the kills. It’s super obnoxious. I don’t know why people play a 20+ year old MMO just to use bots, but many other servers are plagued by them.
I know it’s probably not your cup of tea… but I’d kill for this type walk through / non macro leveling guide on Seedsow 😂. I know a lot is similar… but a lot is also different. I’m back after 20+ years of not playing and enjoying the nostalgia!
I'm starting on Seedsow but Levistras sounds like me: weird but I LIKED standing up to my knees in the mana pool, figuring out spells and burning through components. Then the bots/macros started arriving and devalued the whole investment. Buffbots continue in that tradition and take away, in my view, an important part of the community aspect of the game. Also I was always a grinder.... And thank you for this guide: I've forgotten so much and there are some changes as well. Now what name for my character? Lots of scope in a small world!
