It's amazing how a free game that was made by people who just love creating art and video games can have more immersive story telling than a game made by a AAA developer. With 30 minute unskippable cutscenes that serve as nothing more than filler. I remember stumbling upon this like, greenhouse sort of thing in this game. There was a skeleton sitting down with its back against the wall. Above it there was graffiti that said "IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN ONCE" or something along those lines. Bro that sh*t nearly brought a tear to my eye. This person died tending to the garden that they loved and cared for before sh*t popped off, then the garden eventually died along with them. That is the type of story telling that I love. I don't want to sit there for a half hour not playing the game I paid $60 for!
Lesson from the game : the skeleton person should've been farming bullets, not flowers. Then, when sh*t finally pops off, it's lock 'n load time! Gun free liberals ain't gonna do too good in a Mad Max world... they can barely survive on the streets now, lol! 😁
I can't remember where from but it's a reference to a short story, the series references tons of stuff like that. Most memorable I can remember were seeing the V8 Interceptor from Mad Max, Artyom's room in Metro, a grave where you hear the mockingjay whistle in Hunger Games, a Godzilla appearance, mutants in a secret room with the nuke the apes worship in Planet of the Apes and numerous shout outs to Fallout, STALKER and various dystopian or post apocalyptic games, books and movies.
Hands down one of the best gaming experiences for me was Ashes 2063 and it's expansion Ashes Afterglow. Right there with a first play through of Stalker SoC. You don't need 1 billion poly models and a 200 count dev team with a 1 billion dollar budget. Just vision, talent, and knowledge that the first priority of a good game, is gameplay.
@@onutrof1157 you definitely should. Just don't miss secret level, it's pretty obvious to find if you have gamer instinct. And don't forget about Afterglow, may God have mercy on your soul when you'll be at Array.
'Blood', Half-Life, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. all rolled into one! The weapons and their animations lo0k almost to0 g0od for a do0mer sho0ter. I'm especially GLaD that the shotgun's reload animation doesn't involve an unnecessary wracking of the slide after loading the last shell like we see in most games (even when there's already a shell in the chamber). Also, I like how the sawed-off looks like the one from 'Bo0k of Eli'.
@@pimiento3428 'Blood' is an Advanced Build engine game that came out in 1997. It was one of the defining FPS games of the '90s. It played like Duke Nukem but was set in an alternate 1920s world chock full of Lovecraftian intrigue. Oh, and you played as an undead gunslinger from the Old West. And horror movie references galore! Evil Dead, Phantasm, "the works." How would someone in 1928 be aware of '70s and '80s pop culture? Because it's a '90s game!
There's Blade of Agony as well, that one is based on Wolfenstein. Lycanthorn is not bad if you like what it offers. Legend of Doom and Hedon are great as well.
@@cyberlemmingasaservice7740 this. If any Ashes fan reading this - go play Hedon. It might look like horny bait boomer shooter but it's actually a Gzdoom imsim. Highly recommended.
One interesting detail I noticed when I played this section, is that the arrows have a different texture once they start becoming "fake" and leading you into this ambush. If you find the secret level here you bypass this ambush by going the route the original arrows actually point.
doom is already a great game and this mod seems to be very fun too, I would like to see a game still in these structures but without being too frenetic, more cadenced and with a more immersive terror, I believe it would be amazing like this
I also love voice lines. Bandits can be goofy with their "Gotcha!" and at the same time threatening with "burn!". Same for mutants, mid tier fat mutant that shoots fireballs says something like "get in my belly" and shield mutants scream "suffer!". And destroyers with their screams, always send chills. Oh and how could I forget laughing Tom, of you get killed by his gun game says "player got the joke" but if you die by his melle attack it will say "player got the punchline"
I realize what that mural is: SPOLIER ALERT! It's Vinaya, who appears in the second episode of the game, Ashes Afterglow and is the final boss of that episode.
to me, the part where you go to the dome full of plant flower scared me the most, the lack of light source to charge my lantern and how most part of the area are pretty dark. but that not the worst part, the plants enemy there was the thing that spooked me the most, the map mostly filled with tall grass and stuff, so when those plant enemy suddenly pop out, it caught me off guard
Wait, which map is this? I thought the 2 secret levels were The Dam, and Temple of the Dollar. This doesn't look like either of those. Looks like some pre-build version of the subway or something.
This is the "alternative" path you can take in the same map you discover the entrance to the Temple of the Dollar. It's not the best path to pick since you're forced into two pretty tough fights against mutants back to back.
