Can’t make it to the shala but still want to get your Ashtanga practice in?
In this video, David will guide you through a 75 minute led Ashtanga Primary Series alongside some of his students from Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Toronto. Through his direct cueing, you’ll build awareness in your body and breath connection with reminders related to alignment, gaze, breathing, and more. As Jelena expertly assists students during the practice, you’ll gain a better understanding of how to find ease as you deepen into the postures even more.

It is truly amazing how much more motivated I am to do a 75-minute practice than a 90-minute one (-: THANK YOU for allowing me to keep up my ashtanga practice. I have a toddler and a baby and we moved far away from my old yoga studio, so traditional mysore opportunities are harder to come by these days--I am so grateful for your excellent cues and your embodiment of all the virtues of the practice!

I had to modify at times but not that much which I was grateful for and the class was amazing. I am still learning to do the bow pose and need to do camel first before I can stretch up. Really active and challenging and the real Ashtanga. Thanks for sticking to the tradition which creates energy and peace. The cues really brought to light what to do that I never heard before especially on the twists. I can see that we progress with practice. Namaste.

Thank you SO much for posting this online. As a beginner, I am learning so much from your pointers and feel like I will continue to on my progression towards the harder poses and more frequent practice. This video has brought me so much joy and calmness and it is wonderful to know I am practicing with many others despite being in my living room. ✌🏻🌹

One of the most longest, tiring, emotional and painful practices I’ve had in my entire life. And yet, one I will be the most grateful for. I have learned many lessons from this singular session, and I truly appreciate you both for doing what you do. Please never stop and continue touching the lives of others like how you have. Namaste. Sending you blessings

Ashtanga is often called yoga therapy, yes it is hard and I use it as part of my shadow because it brings up trauma and fears.

Why do you force yourself into painful poses? I do not get that. Yoga is a pleasent walk not meant to hurt you.
@gustavoespinoza887
@gustavoespinoza887 Год назад
i dont know if she meant as in emotionally painful, because personally it has been emotionally painful. instead of painful i would use challenging and or uncomfortable. the practice shouldn’t be painful but at one point it will be uncomfortable as are many events in our lives. i agree u shouldnt force yourself into poses but with continued and dedicated practice you might be able to do them one day.

I don’t have an Ashtanga studio anywhere near me, which is so unfortunate. I practice at home now because the studios I have attended leave me wanting more. These videos are what opened my practice up to exactly what I was searching for physically AND mentally/spiritually. My dedication and discipline to my practice has been strengthened 10 fold. I practice 5-6 days a week and start my day with this practice. This yoga style has transformed my life, and I sincerely hope one day I will be able to make the journey to mysore. I am grateful for this video and hope to practice in person with Jelena and David! 🙏🏼💜✨Namaste ✨💜🙏🏼

This is great to see other students practicing! Through your videos, I’ve been practicing solo in my small town up to half primary over the last year. Yesterday I got to take a led class in a city of full primary! It used to seem so far off but it’s become accessible for me! Excited to add these new postures to my practice!
@VincenzoManna77
@VincenzoManna77 4 месяца назад
Too fast, no breathing, no use of gravity, no attention at all to the “flow” (breathe&movement)… Watch out! This is very very very bad yoga… Almost an insult… Look at the students: they can do all the sequence but they don’t have “powerful” or balanced bodies, at all… none of them… I strongly advice you against doing this... “thing”...

@mjones1699
@mjones1699 Год назад
wow no room for those who need variations, not recommended unless you're advanced even if you're familiar with this type of yoga, luckily I've watched other videos which explains alternatives for if you're still working on flexibility, but this one can be very discouraging if you haven't already come across this sort of yoga and would put me off attending classes in Ashtanga if I hadn't already done so. Should maybe state in the description that it's for advanced/intermediate and no encouragement with using props or support is given.

I feel so energized during the practice. but suddenly my lower back began to hurt unbearably so I could not continue the training at 50 minutes. and it still hurts a lot, it's hard to bend over... does it mean this practice is impossible for me? or should I continue it several times to loosen the pain and blockage in the lower back? Thanks a lot
