The Supersport incident has caused a lot of chaos amongst the South African public and to be honest the longer Supersport takes to sort out this issue the worse it’s going to get.
We need to now move forward and focus on what’s important and that is the game we all love to call rugby.
We need to remember Nelson Mandela’s Quote: Sports have the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sports can create hope, where there was once only despair. It is more powerful than governments in breaking down racial barriers. It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination.
Supersport needs to sort out this issue so that we as a country can move forward and focus on more important things in life. For those who were offended, my apologies I’m just a sports fan sharing my love for the game and might have let my emotions take over.

Nothing to appolagize for, expressing an oppinion is still a free privaledge we have so use it. Just a shame how race is always the first card played. Lets hope this issue has a happy ending.

I watched the segment on Super Sport and before Ashwin walks off, Mallet says to Ashwin that he should have his say on the video analysis of the lions game but Ashwin prompts Mallet to have his say which Mallet does have his say. After both him Botha have their say on the game, Ashwin goes into his rant and then walks off! There was no signs of any racist comments! If there was some racism that happened it must have happened off camera.

Apparently racism has been ruled out by all parties we still not clear tho on what exactly happened.

Gareth Mason Ashwin implies it! If it wasn't racism and it's just a difference of opinion or them not liking each other, than it's unprofessional for Ashwin to bring the issue up on live TV and then walk off.

Hi Gareth, thanks for this follow up video of yours, I for one didn't agree with your views in the previous video, and after following the story closely through the course of the week I thought that you were not completely objective yourself. I do however agree with you that we have to move forward for the love of the game and for the country. But how will we do that? How will we move forward when someone like Ashwin is constantly being looked down upon, and a lot of times its got nothing to do with racism but everything to do with personality, status, social rank, privilege, and entitlement. The whole, "I'M BETTER THAN YOU AND I'M GONNA LET YOU KNOW ABOUT IT EVERY TWIST&TURN". Now both sides on this debacle are focusing or jumping on just one or two words aspect on what happened and using that as their line of attack on the apposing side. The truth is, this is a much deeper issue than just the few words of interest to the different sides. I heard: apartheid, segregated era, quota, labelled, fight hard, long time, respect, undermined, patronized, position to name a few. Now people can go on and defend Ashwin or Naas or Nick, but we're all leaving humanity(South Africa) defenseless. Because humanity is the biggest loser here, we are treating each other with such contempt, so unfairly and with gross indignation that people like Ashwin are forced to feel the need to stand up for himself in the manner he did. And quite frankly if people can not see the wrong in that ON BOTH SIDES, then we can't move forward, then we can't put this behind us and this wonderful game of rugby and our country, that we all love so much and cherish, will surely perish and fall.

It will be good to hear just what happened so that the rumors can be debunked. Hopefully it wasn't an example of someone using the 'race-card' or 'white-privilege' to gain some notoriety or lash out at others to silence them as happens all to often here in the US. Please keep us informed about the real causes, if they actually ever come out.

Gareth Mason I think making a video about what happened opens up dialogue with the public to have their opinion. It's an outlet for people to have their say regardless of whether people agree or disagree.

Gareth everything in South Africa gets blamed on racism and apartheid these days.Certain people don't know how to move forward.This is what holds us back as a country.It is also sad when it is always brought up in sport.There are a number of excellent black rugby players playing in the Super Rugby tournaments at the moment and i can name many of them that should be picked this year for the Springboks.SA Rugby has moved forward in this regard and it is up to our new coach to include these excellent black players into the squad this year and I certainly hope he does.Because there are great talented black players who deserve to be in the Springboks not just because of the quota system but purely because they are talented and great rugby players.This whole Ashwin Willemse thing has been blown way out of hand as far as I'm concerned.But once again that ugly word "Racism" has to get brought into everything again.Sad really!!He (Ashwin Willemse) as far as I'm concerned over reacted and could of handled what ever happened through the correct channels after the show and not on air.My thoughts only :)

It's impossible to have a conversation about South African rugby or South Africa in general without the shadow of apartheid being present, that is part of apartheids legacy. When people talk about the need to get over it, move on, race should not be part of sport etc, race has always been a part of sport and rugby in South Africa. Transformation is going to take a long time and when you stsrt to see the benefits of it down the road, even then there will be plenty not happy about team selections and believe it or not, some of those unhappy will be unhappy about a Black player being picked ahead of a white player. It's the hardnosed, dyed in the wool racists that need to be identified and banished from first the game and then the conversation.

No worries Gareth. Must be just a youtube glitch. I was just concerned that I inadvertently said something offensive, which I would never intentionally do. It wasn't a particularly important comment, I was just musing over the situation. As a non-South African, I am not choosing sides here. But it seemed strange to me that no-one outside the studio knows what really happened, there is still an investigation ongoing days afterwards, and yet the sports minister responded so rapidly with a public comment which implied that she had all the facts and knew beyond doubt that racist comments had been made. That seems odd to me. Either the proof reached her very rapidly or she made a knee-jerk reaction based on a rumour. Secondly, while I absolutely appreciate the racial issues in SA society, her comments condemning "white" attitudes seems borderline racist in itself. Why bring the ethnicity of the of Mallet et al into this? If you are going to take a stand against racism, don't do it by marginalising the alleged culprits based on their race. That just means you are descending to their level. If it turns out that they are innocent, it makes the lady herself appear to the one guilty of racial profiling. Finally, while I would certainly sympathise with Willemse if his version of events turns out to be true, nonetheless I think he did the wrong thing by storming off in that fashion. It just makes him look unprofessional, especially when we are all in the dark about what prompted such a reaction. He should have stayed, finished his analysis/commentary like a pro and then challenged the alleged inappropriate comments directly in public so we could all see what he had to deal with. If it turns out that there is no evidence of racially motivated insults, then he looks even worse. Just my two cents.

It's quite obvious from recent and past Supersport footage that Nick and Ashwin don't see eye to eye. It even appears that Nick sees himself as better than Ashwin, but that race isn't part of the equation. The issue seems to be about class. Nick thinks he has better English than Ashwin, but the fact is that this is common in SA. Black people who went to model C schools, speak "model C English" and look down on blacks who don't. We live in a capitalist system. Capitalist systems don't strive for equality, they strive to create environments where hard work is rewarded. It gets rewarded to the degree that some of that reward can be passed down to the next generation. For this reason, our politicians send their kids to private schools. We can't keep crying racism. Just slightly more than 2 million white South Africans earn middle class incomes. Almost 7 million black South Africans are now also part of the middle class. The country is changing rapidly, I don't know why we insist on living in the past.

I think Nick sees himself as better than most. As a coach he seldom requested feedback from his players, with the exception of Honiball and Rassie. Those are the only players who's opinions he would ever ask for. He's a damn fine coach and a well traveled individual. There is definitely an air of arrogance about him.

I can feel for both, Nick Mallet had to pick players based on their skin colour even though there were some very good players of colour it still had to be frustrating as a coach with politics running your selection agenda to an extent, and Ashwin too because of what his people had to go through during apartheid which was completely wrong. But Mallet has a reputation for acting like a knob with some of what he has said. I agree with Ashwin Nick and Naas were being patronising and arrogant. SA need to understand their past and the people they hurt, which I don't fully think they do. Sorry Gareth but this came across as patronising too tbh.

Nick has been a doos towards Ashwin you might try to cover it all you want,Naas doesn't have the best English but I've never heard him correct him any single day, he's got a huge mouth for somebody who has only 2 caps for the Boks and wasn't a successful Springbok coach aswell. There's no inappropriate moment to speak up to racism Ashwin did it very calmly and with absolutely no anger

We would be there all day if he had to correct Naas's english. But he rips Naas off regularly for his reluctance to tackle! It's a long standing joke among the presenters that Naas would have the cleanest shorts at the end of a every game.

Mihlali Qoma .....Nick is abrasive. LHowever..he was quite successful as a Springbok coach winning 17 consecutive Springbok Internationals,was part of the Western Province Dream team 1981-1985, winning the Currie Cup 5 times !...oh and Coach of Italy too..

Hi Mihali, to be fair I have heard Nick correct Naas on a few occasions and also Nick was a very successful coach at the time he held the world record for the most consecutive wins and he also won the first piece of silverware since the RWC in 1995. I agree Ashwin was calm but we still don't know what provoked him and racism has been ruled out by all parties.
