Sometimes, you need to let it go. You can't have Yes without Chris Squire and Jon Anderson. You can't have Asia without John Wetton, Carl Palmer and Steve Howe. If Geoff wants to tour as Geoff Downes performing the music of Asia, so be it.
Agreed! With 3/4s of the band not there and Wetton (and even Greg Lake...the only appropriate substitute for John) gone from this earth, it's a pale comparison, sadly. Missing the magic of Wetton's voice and playing. I love Downes (Buggles, Yes, Asia, etc) but perhaps calling it a tribute to Wetton or Asia itself - "Asia Celebration"??? - might have been more appropriate, imo. Similar to Palmer's ELP Legacy Band...who are NOT ELP but do an amazing job!
Brian, no need to be rude. John's widow Lisa and his son have approved of this. Regarding Yes: Chris Squire left Steve with the name. Jon Anderson left Yes many times
@JIF882 Hey, I stated my opinion. Never intended to be rude. Steve and Geoff can do whatever they want. But for me the legacy of the bands are being tarnished.
I really have a problem with these bands. The general public largely doesn't appreciate whether or not the people they are watching are the ones that made the record or not. To me, no matter how good they are it's not seeing the group when only one member is there and he arguably was not the focal point. The singer is different and the drummer who may have been the most recognizable star is different. For me=different band. The people who buy those tickets are expecting to see the group that made the records.
@@pilesovinyl 100%. This band (not this band per se lol) was a gateway to an incredible journey for discovering several epic bands, so they'll always have a special place in my heart. But this isn't them. I had a similar experience when I went to a Journey concert back in the late 80's. It was a facade.
@@pilesovinyl While I generally agree on your sentiment about bands missing most or all original members, I'd be surprised if anyone went to the show expecting to see the original four. I think they went to celebrate and enjoy the music of Asia. It would have been a much bigger show/bigger venues if they could have gotten the three of them together with the new singer, but there is still an audience. Geoff Downes did a nice job of speaking about his former band members at different points. Disappointed I never got to see the original four, but this is the best that could be done and it was done well. The band sounded great and people enjoyed it. Can't ask for more than that as our music stars grow old alongside of us.
I was at the show tonight in Milwaukee. The mix was awful. Whoever is running that board for them on this tour is incompetent. The bass and bass drum literally drowned out all the keyboard and guitar work by Asia and the opening acts. Appreciate what Geoff has put together, but if they go out on a second leg, they’ve got to fix this.
