I have seen a few of these programs. With a few exceptions only, the teams are poorly prepared and don't know most answers. Surely in the different asian counties, there are bright students who also speak good english. But you don't see them (apart from a couple) in this quiz series.

yeah I agree with you.. I think their goal is not to win but to be there only to have a presence. It is not a good show to watch when almost all the participants have low relevant knowledge and not so smart enough to participate in this competition what a waste to the resources... When you expect the participants to be intelligent, smart and lively and it turns out to be timid, low stock knowledge of various fields of information and various world events. You need to be a voracious reader of encyclopedia and magazines if your aim here is for the win...

The questions asked are like 60% related to western pop culture and western culture in general. They are asking questions that a high school dropout with too much free time would know, not dedicated and hard-working students.
