Join me in today's Asiana Business Class Trip Report.
I'm flying back to LA via Seoul. I left Sunday morning for Hong Kong Airport. My Asiana Gold status had just changed to Asiana Diamond. I was now Star Alliance Gold. When I went to check in, I found out I was upgraded to business class. What a cool surprise!
I was invited to Singapore Airlines' SilverKris Lounge. It's a nice lounge with nice food. It's really quiet. But unlike United Club, the only other lounge in HKG that I've been to, there are no views of the gates or tarmac.
This isn't the newer Business Smartium seats you find on the A380, A350 or 777. This is what you would find in the 747. It's an angled flat bed seat. It's great for a 3.5 or 4 hour flight during the day like this. Though not the best product Asiana has, the service is professional, warm and efficient. Would I pay or upgrade with miles for this? Probably not. But for a free upgrade, this can't be beat.
I don't fly business very often, so this was a great surprise. Also at the end is a tip where to sit if you fly Asiana's A380 in economy class.
Mission accomplished on my first ever status/mileage run. It's a nice way to end my trips in 2018. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. See you in 2019!

Hi Jeff, I am Raj from LA. I just become Diamond Status member with Asiana but I did not know you can get complimentary upgrade like you did for you HK to Seoul flight. Do Asiana normally do this since you fly with them a lot. What is your feeling of Asiana and the Asiana club program. I personally find their program the best since it is not hard to become elite and they have a family mileage pooling program. As I have never flown with Asiana how is their business class? I will await your reply comment. Raj

I don't think Asiana gives complementary upgrades. I think this was more operational than anything according to people I talked with. Having higher status gives you a better chance in this case. I too like the Asiana program because if the two years they give to acquire status and not spend requirements like say United or having to fly Asiana a certain number of times. I've only flown business on their A330. It's not the best product. Their best product is on planes like 777, A350 or A380. Thanks for watching and enjoy the benefits of Diamond and above.

Fantastic video. You were such a lucky passenger to have a free upgrade to Business Class. Also, the meals on this flights was truly amazing. Btw, congrats to your Diamond status with Asiana
