Asiatic Bow Designs - for Beginners

Could you recommend me a low budget bow to get started in target shooting archery? Been looking around but not knowing what the differences are, im kinda lost. Worth mentioning is that i want to get started with recurve as i felt like that requires the most skill.

Ah my first Asiatic bow was a Skb Korean recurve bow. It's 48 inches strung. I still have it today. I purchased the bow about 4 years ago. I believe I paid just under 200 bucks for it. It's been an invaluable training tool even after I got heavier bows.

Yeah but they are very needy bows... Especially with traditional glue

Great question! I personally don't believe archers from antiquity had the extreme draw lengths that some of these modern asiatic bows allow.

some thing they all maxed out at about 32" but I am not sure about that

Yes. I've been shooting an oak ridge sada Tatar style bow for a few months at 28 inches. Got some 30" inch arrows for it and it's like the bow has just come out first gear totally different experience

Korean bows are built with light arrows in mind because their target is 140m far. Their small siah and relatively narrower bending part makes limbs lighter, optimizing power delivery for lighter arrows. Not as good with heavier arrows.

as said far from being comprehensive. Yumi is quite special and hard to compare with other bows.

@@ArminHirmer That is exactly why I think it would be interesting for new and others to hear about it, to understand what makes it so special and what makes it hard to compare with other bows. :) Is it better, is it worse? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the yumi compared to other bows?

@@stefanhansen5882 Dumbo, don't you get it ?!? he is being polite; read between the line Japanese Yumi bow has no use but ceremonial purpose, it has no mobility nor portability. If you truly want an honest review, send one to Armin for an honest review. In my opinion, Yumi bow is too big, too cumbersome to carry and yet has surprising shorter range as compared to any other bow mentioned here. @@ArminHirmer it certainly is! And I have a question for you, and no better idea of where to put it, so, here: I go in for arm surgery next week. After a month or two of healing, they want me to "ease into" the hobbies I used to do. Well the injury that is now being finally fixed has prevented me from shooting for over a year, so i've lost a lot of muscle mass. And they want me to specifically do the *movements* of my hobbies to make sure the tendons and nerves are healing properly. Which has left me with a bit of a puzzle. ...should I try to ask a bowyer to make a, like, 10# bow? I cant even string any of my current bows much less use them. "Get a friend to string it for you" true, but I see them so rarely these days, that doesn't really work either. Got me wondering about plastic children's bows (like the sort that shoot suction cups, not arrows) and... maybe? I had hoped you'd have some ideas and/or insight. Maybe you or an archer friend has had to do something similar, and can share insight. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer; and thanks as always for being a wonderful creator on here! 🤗

@@kungfuskull Simsek as example has some 15# Turkish bow, which still works quite nice. But a kids bow will do too I guess. maybe even a Thera band for the motion. get better soon

What design does Freddie Archery horse bows do? Which category does it fall into?

nothing in my mind right now, but I will keep my eyes open
