Hey Mat. No I actually have owned a small running specialty store in the states for almost 20 years. I am fed up with all the companies. They are mostly owned by large multinational investment companies and I feel that there is a lack of devotion. We are actually launching our own shoe and brand in a month. We have worked on it for 3 years. I am fed up with selling products that keep getting more expensive, and last less miles. So I decided to follow my passion. I love all ur videos!
I’m really impressed at your hustle of launching your own shoe! It’s surprising that running shoes can get both better and worse at the same time! The companies just keep churning them out! Keep me posted on your shoe’s progress. I’m happy to buy a prototype if one is in my size, however I don’t have “tester size” feet. 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Hey matt, i tried this in a half marathon race. Stepped on gravel rocks on the road then uphill climb, still superb! I must say it protects the foot when running uphill and with gravel rocks on the road. I ran somehow under 630 pace its still bouncy
@@its_Matt_B_ it can pick up the pace and can use for tempo run, soft and springy feeling in the foot. i have a feeling this shoe will lose its energy if it reached 600km. I almost retire this shoe last month but decided not. This is a better shoe against Nike ZOOM X and PEGASUS! or Infinity React for a max cushion shoe. It can also keep up against New Balance 1080, and Saucony Triumph 20.
I recently started running in the Kayano 28, and I’m surprised how shocking great it makes me feel. It’s the first pair of asics running shoes I’ve used in over 10 years, and I wonder why I ever left asics.
A shoe for a neutral runner. I’ve not tried the Nimbus, but do like ASICS. I’m a “heal striker” and pronate, then was looking for a shoe with stability. I ran with the ASICS GEL KAYANO for years. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for watching. Yes, the GN24 is a neutral shoe but that trustic system gives it a little support. I don’t know how much stability you need, but they may be worth a go!
Yeah. It is a temptation for sure. They seem like they have an idea on where they want to go. Shipping internationally gets attention from venture capital. My goal is one shoe, one runner at a time. I’m doing this for a different motivation. I don’t want to bore you but I’ll share it with you one day.
Thanks for the review! Jealous of your weather as I type in the frozen tundra of the Midwest. The Cumulus is coming out soon for a lower price with FF Blast so maybe this will also be a good alternative.
You’re right to be jealous of our wether down here. Between November and March is the best time to live in Florida!! Yes, the Cumulus is going to be a solid competitor for some. It’s unlikely it will be as cushioned as the Nimbus, but we’ll see! It’s also probably going to be $40 less expensive, so that’s a huge factor!
Just bought a pair of these shoes, put on weight since getting married and am about to move house to go live near the sea where there's a lovely coastal road that doesn't allow cars. Haven't done any running for a very long time, so I know it's going to require determination at first. Here in China, during the holiday sale they cost me $150 USD. So even here they're still quite expensive. Most expensive shoes I've ever had, but don't want to end up with knee pain after running giving me an excuse to not stick with it, so I hope they'll be worth it.
Good to hear you’re getting back into running and that you have such a lovely place to run! I think these shoes are going to be well worth it! They’re super soft and comfy, and that’s the most important thing! 👍🏽
Hey Matt! Very informative review! I've always wondered what role this popular shoe is supposed to fill. With that huge drop and it's cushy, slightly heavier design it seems like a pair of shoes to do it all for developing runners. I've owned 2 pairs of Brooks Ghosts in the past, and though they were a cushy ride, I was put off by how quickly they pancaked. Looks like Asics has done a better job there! Thanks for this one!
Thanks so much, Paul! It’s funny because I haven’t experienced the same thing with the Ghosts that I’ve used, but either way, these GN24 have the same cushy ride as the Ghost!
I am over 200 miles in my Nimbus 24 and every single thing you said about the outsole, I had the exact same thoughts today when looking at my shoes after my run today. I also feel like these may not make it to 400 miles, which is what I go to with each pair of my shoes. I want so bad to like the FF Blast+ but just am not totally sold on it. I previously ran in the Novablast and loved that midsole feel. The FF Blast+ can at times feel like it is bottoming out or almost too mushy. The shoe performs best for flat running versus the mainly hill running I do. I am an Asics fan but likely won't buy this shoe again. I am excited for what the Novablast 3 will be like and have seen good reviews of the Cumulus 24 (though I've never tried this model before).
I'm trying to decide a new work shoe, I work in a machine shop and stand and walk around on concrete for 10hrs. My Saucony Freedom 3's have completely lost all support/spring and am looking at Asics this time around.
@@chasen432 These would work, but I’d def recommend the Brooks Ghost! I love the Ghost as a running shoe, but if I were to choose a shoe to stand in all day, the Ghost would be the one I’d pick. The Ghost 14 is the current model and the 15 will drop in the next couple months.
Thanks for this review iam looking for a new daily trainer and used to run in Asics but here lately in brooks but thinking about going to get a pair of Asics again
This is a really solid option for a daily trainer. Brooks will probably release their Ghost 15 this summer, which I’m sure will be a great shoe, just in case you wanted to wait for something similar from Brooks.
@@matthewmiddleton553 I’m not sure if it’s better, but the Ghost is a very good daily trainer. I’m still using last years Ghost 14. I definitely plan on making a comparison video between the two!
@@avilla4013 Yes, the GN24 have enough cushioning to be a good marathon shoe! With that said, there are other marathon race specific shoes that may be better depending on what your goals and budget are.
Agreed, Lee. Here in the US the Ghost is $30-$40 less expensive than the GN24. The Ghost 15 will be out in a couple months and I wonder how Brooks will proceed it. My bet is they will price it very close to the previous Ghost and shut out the GN24.
I hit 94 miles today in mine and checked out the outsole after. I have the same wear! I was surprised as well. I like the shoe though. I wasn’t 100% comfortable taking it over 10 miles though. Maybe I’ll try again.
I'm both glad and disappointed you have the same wear pattern, but it's still a solid shoe! In my experience, you'll be fine running whatever distance you want to in these shoes! 🤙🏼
@@its_Matt_B_ Hello, it's not the wear. I bought them brand new today and the outsole looks the same. I believe It's just the shape of the rubber (i think it's the successor of the "glide line" from older generations).
@@its_Matt_B_I want to share something about Nimbus series. For me the Asics Gel Nimbus series are far the best shoe series I've ever tried. I've bought nimbus 20 in late december 2017. And kept them until today. The shoes were and are amazing! After 4 and some years of wear and probably more than 2500 miles run in various conditions (road, grads, snow and ice-with protection over them and even hiking) and God knows how many miles walked the outsole was worn (I repaired the rubber once after 3 years and i still can wear the shoes) the upper got stretched but only a little bit in the toe area! So i hope these are going to last me even more. I was comparing them side by side and 24's have better quality upper and more stack in the sole, I believe is going to last. So I would agree with everyone that they're expensive, but to buy them once in 4-5 years (in my case) is a really good investment. Especially if you find them on discount!
Hey matt is nimbus 24 is best for daily training. I ran 10 km daily at 6km/mint avg speed. Is it cushioned enough for knee comfort. Is it max cushioned..
Yes, the GN24 is definitely best for daily training and is a fairly soft ride, so will be good for knee comfort. There isn’t really a specific stack height between when a shoe becomes max cushioned, so it’s a little subjective. I don’t consider it max cushioned, but rather just a normal cushioned shoe.
Hi Matt. Just got this in a size 11. In my haste to get this shoe. I completely forgot to ask them if it were a male or female version. Is there anyway I can tell. I'm particularly new to running technicalities. Thanks for the in depth review . Really appreciated.
Yes, there is a difference between the male and female version, but running in the female version won't hurt you in the slightest. I would say the easiest way to tell is to look on ASICS and see which color you have.
It would work, but I would recommend a trail shoe for your adventure. The outsole rubber will be a little firmer and will stand up better to a month of hiking.
@@its_Matt_B_ thank you! I’ve never had a trail shoe before so I am leaning towards running/training shoes. I still have time to break in new shoes so I’ll definitely take your advice.
The breathability of the upper is quite good actually. With that said, I live somewhere very warm so there's no getting around the shoe getting soaked when I go for a run, but that happens with every shoe I have.
Like most road shoes, these will be fine on light trails that aren’t technical! I wouldn’t use them if the trails were wet, but I’ve used them quite a bit on dry trails. 👊🏼
I am looking for the best model shoe with the best cushioning for standing and walking all day. Would you choose asics nimbus 24 or nike zoomX invincible run flyknit 2?
For standing and walking I would go with the Nimbus 24. The Invincible may feel a little softer, but you may need the little more support the Nimbus will give you!
I would swap 3D space construction for a decent colour-way any day Matt, even though, just like you, I don’t know what it is! but the girls? Well, they don’t have to do they? 😂
They’re totally different shoes so it depends how you plan to use them. The Gel-Nimbus 24 is a soft ride and a daily trainer. The MetaSpeed Sky is a race day shoe and costs considerably more than the GN24.
I agree that €180 is a bit too much. Are wages in Spain low across all industry, or are low wages specific to certain jobs, at least compared with other areas in Europe?
Wages are low in all industries across whole of Spain. Portugal , Rumania is even lower. You can’t compare Northern European countries to Spain & Portugal.
@@its_Matt_B_ yea I never had a shoe more comfortable maybe a lot of people only think of these shoes as running shoes but also really comfortable walking
The price of the GN24 isn’t too much higher than here in the US, but what’s really surprising is you can get a 2nd hand PS5 for the same price. A used PS5 here is about 3 times more than that!
@@its_Matt_B_ i bought it for the first shoe of asics.. it has a bouncy feeling when you run due to the gel and also they offered a socks that would prevent from squeeching and somewhat an arch support feeling like it compress mid inner foot area. I hope it really last for long distance..
@@its_Matt_B_ do you have othrr recommendation as an alternative for asics gel cumulus 24 for running.. i need another shoe as my in rotation for long run and speed at the same time. Hope for your response. Is saucong guide 15 an equivalent for long distance training and racing? As well with adidas boston 11?
@@chinitopogi7511 The Saucony Guide is a more of a stability shoe. The Boston 11 and probably the Nike Pegasus 39 will be released soon and they will both be good all-rounders. If you're looking for something a little faster, the Saucony Endorphin Speed could be a good option.
@@its_Matt_B_ I don’t use the Endorphin Speed as my daily trainer but I do use it for long fartlek and progression runs with lots of easy miles. Feels great at easy paces. If I wanted a single shoe for all of my training, I’d choose the Endorphin Speed hands down. And I think Asics deserves criticism for pricing the Gel Nimbus at the same price as a shoe as versatile as the Endo Speed.
I’m with Matt here. GN24 is extremely stable compared to ES2. Really getting tired of people rec the endorphin speed everywhere on RU-vid as it is not a shoe for the average joe runner, especially a do it all shoe. The nimbus is on its 24th iteration because it is exactly that type of shoe and will not injure newer or average runners
