As a parent of a teen I think we should let them enjoy some childhood fun as long as they can. Adulthood is breathing down their neck as it is. If they're polite I don't care how old they are... candy candy candy. That's the spirit of the day!

Not a parent, but I totally agree. I feel like it would help some not go and party. Trick or treating is a safe alternative to going to party and drinking or getting high.

You can’t tell if a child has a disability so allow them to trick or treat. For the love of all that is good for keeping children (yes teenage are still considered children…their brains are not nearly as developed and they don’t understand if they should act like the children they are or adults because of their size and what society perceives them as) children and out of trouble.

Once a year if they put in the effort to get dressed up I don’t care how old you are if you come to my house and say trick or treat you’re getting candy! Life is too short to care about how old the people participating in the tradition are! Thy could be out doing much worse in my opinion!

I think there should be no cut off age for getting candy. When the children get home and the parents check "CHECK" the candy, they end up taking some candy from their children for themselves and the didnt even do the leg work to get the candy! Lol

I'm 6' tall and have been since about 13 or 14. People really don't understand how hurtful their words are to young, impressionable minds. But my favorite Halloween Story is from late comedienne, Jeanne Roberts (she was 6'2" and a former Miss North Carolina!) She said her mom made her a costume that made her look like two kids, one on top of the other's shoulders! Now that I think of it, I might have to send that to his mom 😂

I was worried about this title. I write this with love and respect as a mom of a teen with Autism… Please do not ever pass judgment on an older kid/teenager who is out trick or treating. Chronological age may not be the same as a mental age. And there is always the chance that a group of “average” teens may show up on Halloween because they aren’t ready to give up on their innocence and youth. Just give them some candy and say Happy Halloween. Please be kind

I’m glad you said 16! Teens can do party’s instead of trick or treat. My son was a late bloomer and wanted to trick or treat at 13 so we dressed him as a carpenter with authentic gear. Everyone asked him if he was Builder Bob 😂 He got so upset every time!! That was the last of trick or treating for him.

Any age… how many treats have you taken from your kids when they were too young to eat it? And even after? It happens… a snickers? Twizzler? We could afford to buy it but the variety was there. I like carving pumpkins. Then I clean the seeds, soak them in salt water overnight, and roast them in the oven. Cool decoration and yummy treat all in one! 🎃

Candy is expensive. We always bought bags and bags of candy and handed it out to anyone that came to the door. A lot of the older kids were high school and the local college and University. These kids practically lived on candy throughout the year in their dorms. We were happy to supply them with their candy stash for high school and college.
