How can it possibly be ethical, not to condemn the believer in god? "My sheep hear My voice" is the mindset of slavery. Jesus Christ is failing for 2000 years to convince Jews God puts the New Wine of Christ into the Jew wineskin. We know them by their works: They indoctrinate children. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. They use the vocabulary of fiction, expecting everyone to pretend God made Mormons so Christians would know how Jews feel. Jesus was alarmed at this gathering crowd, a wicked generation seeking signs. Jesus is reminded the only sign given is that of Jonah. It is by faith in God Jonah offered himself a sacrifice, belief in calming the storm. Jonah 1:15 Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm. 16 At this the men greatly feared the Lord, and they offered a sacrifice (perhaps his family & friends or a goat) to the Lord and made vows to him. pomp·ous [ˈpämpəs] adjective affectedly and irritatingly grand, solemn, or self-important: "a pompous ass who pretends he knows everything" archaic characterized by pomp or splendor: "there were many processions and other pompous shows" Translate pompous to Choose language Similar and Opposite Words adjective affectedly and irritatingly grand, solemn, or self-important: self-important imperious overbearing domineering magisterial pontifical sententious grandiose Opposite: modest humble self-effacing

I am a musician/composer/pianist. I have lived my creative life in service to my art as do I pray to Christ, and expression of my Faith, that what I do should serve the Lord, and to the best of my ability. Up until August 20th, 2022, when I lost my father to dementia, I had been his full-time care giver for 12 years. He died several months shy of his 100th birthday, cradled in my arms at hospital. My father had become my child. Since my father's passing, I have been playing piano to end-of-life patients in palliative care. I do this in memory of my father, and to express gratitude to the hospital for caring for both my father and me during the final weeks of dad's life. I am a classical musician. Playing music, and composing music, is a way of prayer for me. When I play for end-of-life patients in palliative care, it is not to distract them from their fate, rather to embrace them within the spirit of Love's kindness itself. I seek to disembody the sound from the instrument as will they soon become a spirit disembodied, to speak to them through Music of heavenly things. The Hungarian music educator, Zoltan Kodaly, said of Music that it was a manifestation of the human spirit. At its most nuance, it is a manifestation of the huma spirit at its most humane, as wholly relative to one's state a sacred thing, as it holy when intone through Grace. At a more personal level, to reflect back over my own life with its varying degrees of challenges, if it were not for Music - if it were not for my creativity - I very much doubt that I would be here. I can only hope the feeling for Eternity I wish to impart to end-of-life patients when playing for them makes for a peaceful transition, and that the rt of music-making at times to precise for words serves as their prayer as much as it has been mine. Blessings!

About the first question: I have American Orthodox friends, living abroad, who go to the church where the priest don’t speak English and they can’t confess, but they found a solution. One time in two weeks they go to more big town to the church with English speaking priest. And they got a blissing not to confess before Communion. Just one time in two weeks. I hope I helped someone. Best wishes

Everyone's faith journey is different. You are not wrong for enjoying secular music. This man is clearly very passionate about God. He genuinely just is not interested in secular music it seems. You shouldn't feel bad, as long as it is not Seriously Distracting you from God. we are called to be in the world but not of the world... but there is still nothing wrong with being in the world. not everyone is called to cloister themselves lol

Correction: Byzantine/Greek Catholics do NOT recite the Filioque in the Creed as it’s not part of their theology. Other Eastern Catholics, like the Maronites, do include it but not the Byzantine churches.
@sidneycline3366

Respectfully, I don't believe Maronites use it either. I have limited experience with them, but it wasn't used at the Church I attended.

@user-oh3tl7je1q 2 месяца назад
@@sidneycline3366not sure where you attend, but the Filioque is in the official text of the Holy Quorbono, I just looked it up. You do realise that the Maronite Church is one of the most Latinized of the Uniate churches? It’s not surprising. Their liturgy closely resembles the post-Vatican II Mass of the Latin Church.
@sidneycline3366
@sidneycline3366 2 месяца назад
@user-oh3tl7je1q oh I don't regularly attend a Maronite Church. I have while traveling a few times to only one Church. I apologize if I corrected you incorrectly. I don't believe it was used where I attended but I could be mistaken. I do see mention online that it is not used, but I see in the official text that it is used as well. And I am very aware of Maronite history and they Latinization. Perhaps it has become optional or perhaps I'm wrong. I attend a Byzantine Rite Liturgy, so I'm no expert on the Maronites. Just 2 tines in a Church and 1 class on Maronite history that spoke in very limited fashion on theology.
@user-oh3tl7je1q
@user-oh3tl7je1q 2 месяца назад
No problem! I’m still learning about the Maronite Syriac tradition as well. I’m much more familiar with the Byzantine and Latin rites. Also found out recently that the Maronite liturgy also underwent a reform following Vatican II, so they have a new Ordo of the Mass currently from the 1990s. I think their following Rome’s lead over the centuries has gotten them into modernism nowadays, just look at how they use altar girls, Mass facing the people etc. just like the Latins.
@sidneycline3366
@sidneycline3366 2 месяца назад
@user-oh3tl7je1q yes that's true. Though not as severe, we see that arising in the Syro-malabars in India and look at all the problems it's causing there. The infiltration of modernist and post-modernist thinking is one of the greatest threats to our traditions and faith.

I've been a musician my entire life. Music is non material, I believe it's a deeply spiritual experience. And it's difficult for me to think God would place this "worldly" stamp on it and degrade it as a "distraction". I feel this blessed holy father could have given a more nuanced take on the subject.
@SinkingStarship

It depends a lot on what kind of music. The emotions evoked by Led Zeppelin are quite different from those of, say, old timey Appalachian folk music, or a Bach concerto, or sophisticated intellectual jazz like Julien Lage. When “secular music” is brought up in this kind of context it’s usually assumed to be music conjuring dancing, fornication, and passionate behavior, ranging from classic rock to contemporary EDM. I think Fr.’s comments aptly apply to this kind of music, but less so to other types.
@andrewswebpage
@andrewswebpage 2 месяца назад
As a musician who has dealt with this issue for the last 5 years of being Orthodox, I've come to the conclusion that there is value in both points of view. Music and visual arts can be a practice in glorifying God by making something that "pushes the soul to incline towards the Good" as Tarkovsky, who was a devout Orthodox Christian, put it (highly recommend reading his book on the topic, Sculpting in Time). At the same time, music and art have so much power over ones soul that the consumption of it should very much be scrutinized to the utmost extent. Plus, as artists it's better for us to produce rather than consume too much anyway.
@andrewswebpage
@andrewswebpage 2 месяца назад
For the past 5 years I've tried to put as much effort as possible into letting my faith inform my art, and I've naturally gravitated towards making simpler, more modest music. If I try to "go hard" or make something that "slaps" or whatever, it just takes away from the core of what could make my music good in the first place.
@HermitGhost
@HermitGhost 2 месяца назад
@@andrewswebpage I play death metal. Been writing and recording my own stuff for years. I depart from my contemporaries in the genre in subject matter. Instead of writing lyrics about bringing harm, I write about my struggles with sin. It's certainly not something I would call religious music, or "Christian Metal", but it has been a productive and cathartic experience. Whether or not I'm closer to God in doing this I'm not sure, but it does put me in a position to confront my sins using the gifts God saw fit to grant me.

I love your videos Fr, but I must offer a humble correction to this video. Eastern Catholics of the Byzantine Rite do not use the filioque in the Divine Liturgy. I'm not 100% sure about any others, but it is my understanding that no Eastern Catholic Churches use the filioque. They do commemorate the Bishop of Rome and often the local Latin Bishop as well. But, they also commemorate all the Orthodox ritefully dispensing the Faith. Thank you for the videos.

It is my understanding that the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is not under or a part of Eastern Orthodoxy but rather Oriental Orthodoxy so there very well might be a difference here. A good youtube channel that discusses the differences between various denominations called Ready to Harvest might have a more in depth explanation on other differences between Eastern Orthodoxy and Oriental Orthodoxy as well.

Jesus is our high priest we go straight to Him to confess our sins and He is faithful to forgive us.
