Although you’re correct, that some locations are named by explorers - Many more of our towns and locations are actually based on the native Aboriginal names, or the rough translation of those original names. “Woolloomooloo” for example. Or when it comes to the translations, many of the Aboriginal languages will utilise double words to emphasise size or scale. So “Big Big”, means very large. So “Big Sandy Desert” could be from an Explorer, but it could just as easily be a vague translation of what the original Aboriginal tribe named that area and how it was explained to confused English settlers.
