Hi Augustin, Thank you so much for these projection tips. There are so much to learn from you in playing the violin. BTW, I saw your (2 hour) live stream yesterday with Ray Chen on "Off stage with Augustin..." Your advice on fingerings and practicing difficult passages (in small segments) are so amazingly practical and effective! I've been making an effort to be mindful of all that you've taught us from all of your video master classes (DIY fingerings, breathing. bowing, vibratos, shifts, keeping fingers close to strings without too much motions...etc. :-)

Your generosity during our COVID-19 "house arrest" will never be forgotten. Luckily, even in Toronto, we can get our bows rehaired again as of this week - absolutely key to good projection :). Henryk's violin would not hurt, of course! Was lucky to touch it once.

I'm interested in your comment on bow involvement in getting a full sound. I was told the guideline for buying a bow is to consider spending about 1/3 of the value of the instrument. In future "Ask Augustin" consider covering how to select a bow for your instrument and the value level of bow compared to violin.

The comment at the end, that a real wooden violin takes time to start and stop ringing, also needs to be considered by composers who want to write a violin concerto. I've heard one modern violin concerto that was composed on a synthesizer and, while pleasant enough music, did not work in the hall with a real violin because of that. And it wasn't the soloist's fault.

Hi Augustin, do you have any suggestions for playing Ysäye? I'm trying to learn Sonata no. 2 Prelude. Keep up your work, it is helping tons of musicians.

Very good topic, thank you for this wonderful video 🙏🏻🌸 Can you share on how to play dynamics on violin? Everytime I try to play p/pp/ppp, all I can hear is loud loud loud 🙄

Thanks for the excellent video! What are some specific practices that could help to improve the character of a sound(not crunchy or harsh) even when you are playing at maximum volume?

"...practice room..." Eh--Well, the "new normal"--one preson practices in one, then must be wiped with bleach for the next...nobody can play/practice in that! Unfortunately, many classical students will have to play in their apartments to the metronome of the downstairs neighbors hitting the ceiling with a broomstick and yelling. Then, there's the symphonies...first chair, second chair etc. all 6 feet apart? Everyone playing in masks. The audiences, already waining, sitting scattered and limited. Even quartets 6 feet of distance. Solo concerts and small groups/accompanists are gonna be the only game in town for a long while it seems. Be grateful you're rich and famous, and can fill a hall wherever you go. Many talented ones can't. And the students will for sure suffer...going to take master classes via Zoom? Really sad slow-mo cultural wipe-out. Best to you as always!
