Wildlife Management expert Dr. James Kroll, AKA "Dr. Deer," and Landscaping expert Jonathan Judice discuss feeding deer Cottonseed.
Ultimately, Wildtree.co and Dr. Deer do not believe that Cottonseed is a good feed source for deer. We recognize that there is research and science counter to our own beliefs, but our reasons are as detailed here, and within the video.
1. High Fat Content, as high as 23% fat ratio. Whitetail cannot process and store fats in a way that might make this more beneficial.
2. An insecticide associated with cotton and cottonseed called Gossypol has science showing a reduction in male qualities pertaining to fertility and hormones within bucks of Whitetail deer.
