Ken li Not wanting to eat or don’t like meat is one thing, being grossed out or have a panic attack about it is another. I don’t think anyone should feel like they cannot cook a dish if they don’t like the ingredients. I think that there are chefs around who are vegetarian or Muslim or have a food allergy but has no problem cooking what they don’t or cant eat
@bee Humans are carnivore mammals, that's a fact. Now, being vegetarian is a choice and nobody can force you not to be one. BUT, the vast majority of the people in this world are eating meat, so you cannot expect the whole world to go out of its way because you're opting out of something that specific such as your diet. What you can do is: you do you and let others do themselves, imposing your beliefs and habits on others is irritating. I'm an atheist living in a country where 98% of the people are Christians, I'm not trying to change anybody's beliefs and I had people try to do that to me all my life. So..no, I can understand being a minority but I can't understand imposing your habits on other people just because you find it nice or logical or enviromentally friendly or whatever. STOP.
I have had several vegetarians tell me that, it's a healthier lifestyle. I told all of them "Really? Well cows are vegetarians and those heifers are huge!"
Just because an animal is huge doesn't make them unhealthy. Look at elephants and gorillas. Those animals are huge, but not unhealthy. Also, you know one trait those animals share? They're both vegetarians. I believe the term you are looking for is "overweight". The reason they are "overweight" is because of the factory farming industry over feeding them and not allowing them to excercise. I'm pretty sure you would be overweight too if you were locked in a tiny cell not allowing any movement what-so-ever. Do some research. You may be surprised by your level of ignorance.
Jon Morrison. I did not say the animals were unhealthy. I was just stating what I tell my friends that are vegetarians, some which are very fit. The statement I made was meant to be a joke. Try not to take things so seriously. You might be surprised how relaxed you can be. Stress is another contribution to weight gain. I guess I should have mentioned that my circle of friends include doctors, nutritionists, and pharmacist.

Just because you happen to be a vegetarian doesn't give you any right to force your diet choices on anyone. you can go to family functions and bring your own food. you don't eat meat .okay. your family does. two options. one don't attend any family functions. two .bring your own food and simply say your on a special diet for medical reasons . no hurt feelings no drama short sweet to the point

There was an episode of the Bernie Mac Show where they went to a friends house for Thanksgiving and they were Vegetarians. Bernie Mac nephew snuck in some turkey and they ate it on the sly. Funny episode.
Its the same bolth ways around. I am a vegetarian and i cant go a week without someone at school trying to get me to eat meat because "i don't know what I'm missing out on." Then they get mad at me because i say i cant I'm vegetarian and they say "god i hate vegetarians they are always talking about how their lifestyle is better than mine and always pushing me to be a vegetarian" So it is not always the vegetarians that are trying to push people to change their lifestyle.
I have been a vegan for a little over a year now. However, when I ate meat I can say it was extremely annoying when people would push their vegetarian/vegan beliefs onto me. Now that I'm on the other side of the equation, I can say it's even worse when they aren't supportive of your choices and exclude you from the family. Literally every holiday or birthday I've spent with family and friends, there was nothing I could eat that they made and or was being served at a restaurant. Also, to top it all off, they would chastise me for my beliefs and make fun of who I am. I would have points in life when I would have to go hungry at dinner with family until I got home. I would be up late cooking and wake up tired the next day. That is why I understand this woman trying to push her beliefs onto her family. She shouldn't do that, but based on my situation her family is probably pushing their beliefs onto her and want to make her eat meat.
I was a vegetarian for 12 years before I quit but even when I was a vegetarian I was still willing to cook meat meat for my family members for they're dinner. I just learned to cook separate meals and time everything properly. This is why they get so much hate you get vegetarians like this who get this little thought in their head that they can convert people to their own personal choice. It's just silliness.
Jerod M so I have just hit the half year mark for being a vegan and I did it for my health. And it was so hard for me at first because I still craved meat so having a plant based substitute that simulates meat actually helped a lot because I was able to eat that and the craving would subside and over a period of a few months the cravings went away entirely so now I’m just eating more things like kale and tofu and eggplant and I still eat the plant based burger but only when that is the only thing on the menu. So what I am trying to say is it helps when in the transition into changing the diet and learning what other foods you like that don’t contain any animals

There are plenty of Vegetarian options to bring and eat at the Christmas dinner table without having to ruin other people's day. Just because I made a choice to not eat meat, doesn't give me the right to impose that choice on others.

Yea, my skin crawls when I witness somebody trying to manipulate or obligate someone else into doing something they dont believe in. I have digestion issues so I only eat seafood or white meat occasionally. My family began sneaking pork fat and meat into the food they served me and in a year I went from a size 9 to a 1 and the health issues I had solved by cutting certain out of my diet came back. People need to mind their own business when it doesnt pertain to them.

LOL, I agree with Steve on this. The holiday season is the wrong time to try and trick people with eating vegetarian food. Hell my family will walk out, because they will be looking for nuff curry goat, rice and peas, coleslaw, salad, ham, pot roast, cranberry chicken, turkey, deep fry chicken, oven baked rolls, asparagus, bake mac and cheese, and some baked ziti. For desert we will be having Jamaican rum cake, apple pie, ice cream, triple fudge chocolate layer cake, junior's cheese cake, potato pudding, liquor, sorrel, baileys, Wray & nephew rum, Appleton, sodas, carrot juice(with and without rum), and nuff music, dancing & dominos. And yes we have a big family and lots of friends coming through dat day. So MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!

I have been a vegetarian for almost 7 years, I made the decision realizing that most people eat meat and dont know how to cook vegetarian meals. So I go every where prepared with food for myself, if some one wants to be nice and make something for me great, if not; no problem I got myself covered. It was my life style choice and I dont expect other people to cater to me.
She would go to the length of lying to her family on thanksgiving and force them to endure boiled grass on a plate just to get back at them for them not giving her a vegetarian dish? I think this girl is a bit psychotic if you ask me.
If vegetarians loved animals so much then why do they keep eating all their food? You see, this is why we eat animals, we're being merciful so that they don't die a painful death of starvation!
For the Laughs actually for Muslims they kill them mercifully, they have to lay it down and say a few prayers and then kill it with a knife that's facing north, they won't eat meat unless it's killed that way, if it was shot or tortured they aren't allowed to eat it according to Islam. as for sea food though, because when they catch it it's already did there's an acception. but only sea food cause they die when they're out of water.. the point is you can be from other religions and eat halal meat, halal meat you can be sure that the animals were treated well.

we don't "unnecessarily" kill animals, us humans and omnivores kill animals to actually eat them, maybe if you were a normal human being you would have realized that by now.

My mom always hosts holiday get-togethers at her place and my sister is vegan (the rest of us are not). My mom always makes a couple of vegetarian dishes to go along with the turkey, roast beef, ham, or whatever she is making. Or, if you are a vegan, you can bring your _own_ vegan dish to share with everyone. I can't believe this lady's family _only_ has meat dishes as she says. I'm sure they also have mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, etc.
As a vegetarian myself. I don't force my relatives to become vegetarian. I just enjoy my meatless cheeseburger and my cousin enjoys his 8 regular cheeseburgers.

I don't mind going vegan, and eating meat once a week, but what I don't like is their constant farting, and it smells like cabbage. never really looked at cabbage the same way since you know.
Make a vegetarian dish, bring that to family gatherings so you can eat it. Offer it to people as an alternative. Take their response as an answer and don't try to pressure them into doing something they don't want to do.
I agree. I'd be mad if a relative decided to take over the cooking for Christmas and they decide to leave meat out. That's cruel and unusual punishment.
My wife and I recently invited some new friends to our house who are vegans. It was a wonderful new culinary experience for me to cook vegan. I even made a delicious vegan chocolate cake for dessert and they were most appreciative. They didn't for one minute try to convert us to their lifestyle and because they were our guests, we did our best to accommodate them. We had a delightful evening. It's all about caring for your fellow human beings and putting yourself aside to serve others. How much better to show how much she loves and cares for her family by preparing a real turkey for them. Then she could make some vegetarian side dishes and everyone could have a great family time. This idea that "my way is the only way and everyone has to think like me" is why our country is in the shambles we're in right now. Howz about you do you, I'll do me.
This girl crazy. I am a true bipolar and my brain and energy level know when its missing meat. The times I have gone 2-3 days without meat, I am VERY hostile, and it' s best to just not over work me or talk to me. Steve said it right, "you gonna get stabbed"
