Making the most of your visit with your doctor...
"If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail." Dr. Harter shares helpful tips on how best to approach an upcoming visit with your doctor, how to prepare for it, and how to make further decisions about your treatment.
Firstly, control what you can: did you vet your doctor? What is your goal for this particular visit? Come prepared with your tests, documents, and questions.
Dr. Harter then shares some insight from the surgeon's side. Dr. Harter gives a few real life cases of patients with Chiari, with and without syrinx, which treatment he chose, and why. He also shares some pitfalls which he has experienced including: IIHT, Acquired Chiari, CSF leak, or Chiari 0.
Some other questions you and your doctor should consider: How does the treatment fit into the family's plans? What types of treatments are there for Chiari and syrinx and what are the pros and cons to each?
