Hollywood made it cool in the Rock 'n' Roll Fifties and Swinging Sixties. Ferris Bueller introduced it to another generation of movie audiences in the 1980s: luckily most of us were too young to realise it was a fake, just as well given what happened to it...
Here's our latest Ask the Insiders episode on the Ferrari 250 GT California Spider with expert, author and concours judge Keith Bluemel, short but sweet as a brace of army Apache helicopters had to make a sudden emergency landing on our runway! Hopefully it gives you a feel for what to spot, and why the California Spider is so prized today.

The amount of overlapping speaking was quite bizarre “ how do you tell the two models apart….hang on don’t worry I’ll tell everybody instead “ It’s all very well but it came across as under rehearsed , rushed , and a bit disrespectful tbh, not the pinnacle as opposed to the contrast of the T57 video for example .

Once I drove one. I was soo disappointed. The clutch was soo heavy and in the moment I drove reverse I found my last throttle push in the way of lots of gasoline in my face... Steering was not pleasant and the dash looks poor with it's crumpled black paint. Only a typical way to spend a great amount of money for something that make other people envious but didn' t satisfy you for a long time as a "so called" perfect car or icon.... And to say it clear: It's way ahead of the styling perfection of the best Pininfarina ones of it's age..
