Wondering about Parkinson’s disease (PD) medication options, what they can and can’t do, their side effects and more? In this video, Rachel Dolhun, MD, DipABLM, movement disorder specialist, lifestyle medicine physician and senior vice president of medical communications at The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), shares what to know and ask about available and upcoming PD medications, wherever you are in your journey.
Taking medication does not prevent you from volunteering for research. But those who are not yet on medication can make especially valuable contributions to studies of how disease changes over time, like MJFF’s Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative: www.michaeljfox.org/PPMI-Enroll. To speak with the study team, call 877-525-PPMI or email joinppmi@michaeljfox.org.
The "Ask the MD" series is intended as an educational resource for people with Parkinson's and their loved ones. Please consult with your personal healthcare provider to address individual medical questions.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. www.michaeljfox.org
We gratefully acknowledge the Steering Committee members of our Patient Disease Education Consortium in conjunction with The Albert B. Glickman Parkinson’s Disease Education Program, whose sponsorship allows us to create and distribute materials, while preserving our track record of efficiency in stewarding donor-raised contributions for maximum impact on Parkinson’s drug development. Sponsorship support does not influence MJFF’s content perspective or panelist selection.

In addition to the best exercise being the one that you will do, i would say do what you can while you can,. You'll miss it when it's gone.

I can vouch for the benefits of exercise. It's been over 3 years since my diagnosis and one of the first things I did was start resistance training and walking as much as I could. The progression of my symptoms has slowed markedly and there is an added bonus that I am now far more "robust" -- such that when I experience the inevitable falls I bounce rather than break.

What about natural herbs or homeopathic solutions? Do you have some research in this area? Thanks, Glen
