For me, it's rather seeing a mighty and usially upbeat hero's dark past that made me tear up. Have you seen DK smiling and overall delivering a good vibe in his games, marketing, merch? Yet behind his smile THIS is a secret he kept away all the time from his fans... makes me think about my own parents and how it would suck growing up without 'em and later put on a smiley mask to hide the pain. :C
