Eucalyptus is mainly planted for it's wood- well it's not the best of wood but it is good enough and it's one big log, the wood extraction is much more than other trees a 5-7 year tree can give you upto 30-50 K Rs. The roots are deep that's why it can grow taller. And the main advantage is it grows much much faster. You can't get a turnaround cycle with any other tree ( 5-7 years ) Keekar ( babull tree) is best for Haryana, drought prone areas of Punjab and Rajasthan and has one the best woods but just to get a 15 feet off the ground you need 20 years. So the average consumption per growth would be almost same for different trees. The real problems are lack of planing, Vision and research. You you plant just one type of tree in a forest you can't call it a forest.

Eucalyptus was a desert tree imported from Australia. British era forest policy was to use forests as a plantation. Such monoculture practices have degraded our forest land. Other than Eucalyptus, Casuarina, Poplar, and Subabul are also exotic species. Replanting our forests with natural fruit-bearing trees will enrich the ecosystem with birdlife. We must stop thinking of forests as a plantation. There are plenty of indigenous species that beat Eucalpytus such as Melia dubia (www.downtoearth.org.in/blog/forests/indigenous-species-can-meet-growing-demand-for-wood-51499).

AIM is right on Eucalyptus. However, Indian forestry department who consider forests to be government-owned plantations does not want to accept that Eucalpytus monocultures are detrimental. They have commissioned many studies and reports to prove that Eucalpytus does not affect the water table. श्री सर जी। पेड़ वायु साफ़ करने के अलावा, पानी की उमस ( moisture) भी छोड़ते हैं। इसको सम्भवतः transpiration की प्रक्रिया कहते हैं। क्योंकि पेड़ पानी के जरिए ही मिट्टी से पोषक तत्त्व खींचतें हैं। और फिर यह पानी पत्तियों से हवा में उड़ जाता है।

22:00 population control...I think this approach is totally wrong. Instead of extreme approaches, we should go for soft approach...like reward women who have their first child after 25 years of age. Current first birth median age is about 20-21. just increasing it to 25 will not just reduce population but also give the child better chance of survival. this will also reduce the burden on the parents as the extra 5 years would have made then more mature and economically better off. Plus a positive approach like this would be welcome by all as it is pro-women.

Abhijit tries to present a lot of facts but has no clue about social development. It's a lot of mumbo jumbo which he regurgitates after reading some luny western writer. He is so colonized himself that he gets easily sold out to everything west sells like his endorsement of the book " the weirdest people by Joseph Henrich". both astonishing and disturbing fact about this book is why it is taken seriously by anyone. This book is attempting to take a magnanimous and graceful view of the West, but it’s little more than a thinly veiled argument for social Darwinism and white supremacy. I am not sure how Abhijit is helping the Indic cause. He blamed Indians to be obsessed by the west yet he himself is more in love with west than any other Indian. I ask a simple question, has anyone heard him say anything positive about Indian civilization and its achievements? Id say anything this man says , please take it with a pinch of salt.

I have read Ambedkar long time ago. if You actually read his works you will be a fan. He was against socialism, and a hardcore supporter of free markets, libertarianism and capitalism and also against Abrahamic concepts like AIM said. 1. This shows how out of touch Indian left is. privacy and such things are more of a 1st world problem, a pre industrialized society will not care. Actually people will be happy 'modi ji' has an eye on every one .😂 . This is the result of brainless superimposition of western liberal ideals in India. 2.every liberal democratic gov in west also snoops on its citizens, its now an accepted reality, so even west is not following their own ideology how come you expect it to be applied in India. 3. Our National security threats are pretty real, we have the 2nd or 3rd highest terror attacks on a nation and also most of our borders are occupied with hostile dictatorships. Even western nations are not in such predicament, so at least a western lvl snooping may be needed.

I think Mitra is coming out as more and more biased and pessimistic. I enjoyed his talk. But now i realise an easy way to come on top is by being reactionary and having a critical perspective. Perhaps that's why he's not working with govt. Bureaucrats might be slow but are sure shot
