Bangladesh does have the sultanate of Bengal. In our history we refer to Nawab Shiraj ud Dawla as the last independent king of Bengal. And he wasn't a Mughal vessel since grandfather stopped paying tribute and ditched the title of subadar and announced himself nawab of Bengal.

Just like how the French were an European empire. And even if you go way way back you have the Gupta empire. Kings in Delhi hardly ever controlled Bengal fully but mostly through vassals and tributaries. And as soon as Delhi showed any sign of weakness kings in Bengal denied their overlordship. Thats why we had this idea of sovereignty and denied to be ruled by the Pakistanis after the brits and decided to have it our way.
