I respect MIT. But I went to a community college, and a local university. Pell Grant and State Grant cover the tuition. I live with my parents, so I didn't borrow anything, and I still make 6 figures.
Best route to take! I recently dropped out of a private school cause they were going to take away my scholarship (which paid for half of my tuition) if I didn't keep a B average. I was double majoring in math and liberal studies. 💀 the tuition is 76k/yr. With the scholarship and grants I only had to owe $550/yr. Super cheap but I knew I wasn't going to be able to 1. Graduate on time 2. Keep up the B average. So I dropped out lol. Now I'm planning on going to a community College which will either be free or even cheaper than the private university. People who attended the private university were either rich or stupid. I was forced to talk to a classmate about the unfairness of poor communities and they literally spent most of the time complaining about how much they had to owe the university and how much debt they would be in. She claimed she was "poor" but if she was as poor as I am, she would not be paying that much for school. I compared her balance to my boyfriend's (he was going to attend that same university but switched to community College) and based on the number she claimed she had to owe, she was actually upper middle class (like upper upper). Not poor at all. I was so pissed at how she claimed how "stressful" her situation was, I wanted to yell "THEN WHY ARE YOU HERE?!? ARE YOU STUPID?!? GO TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE!! YOURE NOT POOR!!!" But I held back ☺️❤
most MIT graduates will have zero debt. Scholarships, grants, and parents help. MIT has a 23 Billion endowment that pays for people who can't afford tuition. MIT grad is miles better than a community college. Not even a debate
Only at private schools, and even then the majority of students get financial aid. I go to one of the best schools in the state of California and I pay less than 10k per year.
Top schools like MIT are need-blind so only students whose families can afford it are paying full tuition. And their salary estimates are accurate for their majors. Trust me, these kids and pretty much anyone that gets a degree from a decent school in the US will be fine
As a recruiter in the tech industry in the NY area, I see this all the time. Their expected salaries may be close to what they should expect after working for around 3-5 years, but not starting salaries.
@@Matthew-sl8dxstarting salary means what you get paid straight out of university. 5 years of experience could mean 5 bonuses if you’re getting annual review bonuses.

@@anneececarter look up the MIT GSS, employment tab, sections 8, 9 and 10. If you’re CS, Math or Econ at that school a $100k starting base salary is nearly guaranteed
@davidmays8974 Community colleges, trade schools, technical colleges, and the military are all affordable options. Or you can do gateway programs where you spend two years at a community college and then transfer to a university. Just make sure the class credits that you get are transferable to that specific university. If you go to tech school, don't major as pharm tech. But ultrasound, radiology, phlebotomy, etc. are all good majors. You can do nursing, computer science, engineering, etc. at a tech school, too, and transfer to a 4 year college afterward. If you're super desperate, a shit ton of student loans. You don't need to go to an expensive university to make it in life. Hell, there are a lot of people who rack up debt, don't even get into the field they majored in, and struggle for most of their life paying off debt.
The first girl is definitely the most sane person at MIT 😂 and she'd probably beat this whole comment section in a math competition so i dont wanna hear none
I don't think so. There are lot of brilliant people around the world who didn't or don't study at MIT. US education has fallen down a lot now. So don't go making assumptions of things you don't know about.
starting salary for entry level CS graduates is like 60-80k and the market needs to recover so 6 figures is pretty inaccurate rn unless u get lucky with nepotism and relationships or land in FAANG
Grateful that the UK has a max price of £9,250 per year for National uni students so for 4 yrs you’re paying £37,000 and for 7 yrs you’re paying £64, 750 maximum (med students) which is nowhere near what these students are paying ANNUALLY.
you are in the UK so it doesn't compare. Their salaries will be much more than yours. And most never even pay that much. Most are on scholarships, grants, and major scholarships and MIT has a $23 Billion endowment to help students pay the rest.
Not fully, I study Biochemistry and Physics and started off really bad at both. I’m learning Mandarin and German also, and started off really bad at both. Everything can be learnt depending on your attitude that you have towards learning and wanting to get answers right. I started off studying later in life, going back to school in my early 30s and never thought I’d enjoy things like Calculus, Trig, etc. All it takes is wanting to get better and wanting to conquer something strange and unfamiliar. Being willing to put in the work, the time, and the effort helps. Many people get stuck in a pattern that convinces themselves that being bad at something means you’ll never improve. Having love for a topic helps. But having drive after conquering something you thought was impossible is an indescribable feeling.
As someone in Biology, it makes me so sad how low the salaries are. Many entry level lab or field positions pay minimum wage, but require about 10x more knowledge and skills than my retail job that pays 1.50 above minimum, and where I live that doesn’t cover basic expenses. It’s such an undervalued field, because the material science and math fields always get all the hype.
That first girl has an IQ of all her haters in these comments combined bro 😭 yall need to stay humble, she’s happy and incomprehensibly smarter than you.
most of the US average starting salary for the jobs those students are trying to get will be in the $70k range. Being MIT grads might open up the top paying jobs which can be in the low 6 figure range starting, but also will likely be located in places with the highest costs of living.
Most interviewed were CS majors. FAANG SWE IC4 is around 100-150k after including RSUs. They chose majors based on money but they will likely get it. The math and physics guys and 250k guy are the only ones off.
I have my AAS in Electro Mechical Engineering Technology from Brooklyn College. I was making peanuts in my field. Went to BOCES, got my certification in HVAC in less than 2 months. I now install Ductless Mini Split and make around $130K / year. FYI: HVAC and Car salesperson make around $100,000 / year with HS diploma.
The first person said like 4 sentences and seemed to mostly be talking to avoid answering the question tbh. Which means they probably know they’re going to make a lot of money with their major and just didn’t want to seem like a snob only talking about money. But here y’all are getting upset that they seemed to be enjoying their existence instead of wanting to jump off a cliff.
Whenever I see interviews like this one I think to myself "okay that can't be right, I'm here in Europe making much less for the same major" then comes the tuition part and I remember it's free here xD

This isn't just a baseless claim either, check the levels.fyi end of year report for entry level jobs. And this is just SWE positions; quant traders at TIer 1 firms (Jane Street, Hudson River Trading, Citadel), can easily make that 400k figure I stated. Of course, these positions are simply unattainable to the average computer science graduate, which I believe you're thinking about. Top students at prestigious universities are what these firms are targeting. A vast majority of students getting into the Tier 1 quant firms also have many high achieving accolades, such as ICPC World Finals, high scores on the Putnam, USAMO/USACO, etc. If you really think I have anything to gain off lying in a RU-vid Shorts comment section, do some research into quant trader compensation lol.
