Title:- Will Automation take away jobs? The questions should be:- Did the Automation take away jobs? I say yes. The people who are talented or can do hard work are surviving and the rest are becoming jobless. I remember we have a team of 200 Linux admins in my old project. Suddenly they decided to switch to Ansible and Azure cloud from bare metal and VM ware environment. Now only 40 people are working in this. And most of them are struggling to update themselves everyday.
I totally agree with your observations. But I feel that this automation of jobs is not understood in a right way by the ppl in the industry and this is why QA’s are been made to feel low may times, the job market hiring has also changed drastically and they expect everyone to be an SDET in today’s time . This is causing some challenges also like the expectation on in sprint automation where they talk about automating the item before even it is tested and stable . I feel this needs to be debated on . Please share your thoughts on in sprint automation if possible
Some very good and accurate insights, Ragav. I've been working with Automation in Testing for over 25 years. I started out with the commercial tools on Client/Server based apps/systems up to today's opensource and Web/Services based systems. Automation has always been and aid to the test staff, not a replacement in spite what some people (management mainly) think. This has been a long time issue/subject, and keeps getting addressed about every 7-10 years. In the end it comes down to having people with the correct skills to do the testing work. Automation has only transformed (to a certain degree) what it is we do for work and how we do it. Everyone needs to remember that there is a human brain and fingers behind the automation. There needs to be a skilled human in place in order for the automation to be built and maintained. There are always jobs for that.
I believe that the statement that automation takes away jobs can't be made universal. It will differ from person to person and from region to region. Because not all people are skilled enough to have a higher thinking or a cognitive ability . There are more unskilled labour in India than those who are skilled so the non cognitive and repetitive work which you mentioned about can actually help these iileterate and unskilled population to get jobs and feed their family.Automation increases number of jobs for those who posses high cognitive skills but simultaneously decreases jobs for the illeterates. And its not even possible to develop such skills after a certain age where getting a job is of utmost importance.Nowadays we are observing JOBLESS GROWTH which is entirely based on this that even though there is a rise in GDP still the number of jobs aren't increasing. This is what I personally think. It is open to all kind of suggestions . I will be glad to take them
Based on my experience and observations in the IT market, the demand for automation testing is increasing in a huge phase due to some part of every project testing is required to automate (regression testing). Considering the same, today IT market is expecting to have experience and skill set in both manual and automation testing. Last but not the least, as long as IT industry exists, the concept of manual testing will also remain and it will never go off as it is also one of the important aspect of any testing project.
Very true, now the traffic cop can give out more tickets, city will collect revenue and they will hire more cops and also put up more automated lights.
Any enterprise can only deliver the best experience to customers if the software works flawlessly. Test automation enables this in a faster, error-free, and tireless way - only when augmented with human intelligence.
great insights Raghav, I would say that automation is misunderstood with digitalization these days. As you said only mundane things are been automated not the cognitive work. Few years ago people were afraid of robots taking over the world and see now Robotics has transformed into a separate industry and even more jobs are been created. After all if automation has to come then who will do the automation? its we humans only, right? We should not be afraid of automation instead focus on upskilling ourselves.
I would say it is good for customers and end user but bad for human resources who used to do the same job manually. Ex. Traffic signal automation good for public but less policemen required now. So, it has both aspects
Hi Rajat, my view here is when Policemen will be free from manually controlling traffic they can do something more important and human work, like helping people in need, making sure there are less violations etc
Hi Nithish, Both Automation Testing and DevOps are in high demand in the current job market as they are integral parts of modern software development and delivery practices. In terms of job opportunities, both fields have a similar number of openings, but the specific job roles and skill requirements may vary. For example, in Automation Testing, some common job titles include Automation Test Engineer, QA Automation Engineer, or Test Automation Architect, while in DevOps, common job titles include DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), or Build and Release Engineer. Automation Testing involves developing and executing automated tests to ensure software quality, while DevOps focuses on the integration of software development and IT operations to improve the speed and reliability of software delivery. Both fields require a strong understanding of software development practices, tools, and processes. In summary, both Automation Testing and DevOps are important and in-demand fields with many job opportunities. The choice between the two would depend on your personal interests, skills, and career goals.
Pehle metro mein token kay liye human resource use hota tha par jab se machine aai hai to token automatic nikal rha hai. I am not saying this is bad innovation but it's impacted job
See software testing without automation frameworks, will not involve any coding, but automation testing will and RPA too mostly should not require any coding
Hi bro....while i am trying to build test Framework ....i got this error pls help to fix it thank you. [jps incremental annotation processing is disabled]
