Loving this in San Antonio, in 2024. I've been listening to Asleep at the Wheel for decades now, and love' em more than ever. I've lived in 14 different cities, in eight different states and overseas. First came to Texas when I was 14, in 1968, and have lived in San Antonio, Austin, and Denton. My husband and I returned to Texas to settle in 1997, knowing that the best of everything is in Texas, including music. Love to all you misplaced Texans out there. Western Swing, BBQ, and HEB are calling to you. 🤠
Kipping Uncle Bob Alive loved Ray ever sense i heard of him about 1993. I was in Germany in 1971 playing Bob Wills music in our US Army barrack half of them I hate the other half going I love it. Most of them had never heard anything like this before. Love Ray Benson for what he stands for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was privileged enough to be in a supper club in Santa Ana California in 1983 or '84 and Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel were playing! Been a fan ever since!
I’ve loved San Antonio Rose since I was a Freshman in college. In Winter of 1994 I learned about this wonderful song from Music in Society. Ever since then, I got hooked on this song.
Seen Big Ray Benson snd Asleep at the Wheel a couple of times at the Sportsmans Tavern in Buffalo N.Y. Great music and great shows, and the best part is.... he's a Jewish Boy from Philly!!!😂🤯
Thank you for the lyrics Mr. Decastro; been singing this song to myself for over 85 years and never new all the words; excuse me for misspelling your name, and for that I apologize!
Been seeing big Ray and asleep for over 35 years around Texas still kick in ass.if anyone knows about broken spoke in Austin. Check it out around this time of year they usually do a show there. And it will blow u away
Lyrics: Deep within my heart lies a melody A song of old San Antone Where in dreams I live with a memory Beneath the stars all alone It was there I found beside the Alamo Enchantment strange as the blue up above A moonlit pass that only she would know Still hears my broken song of love Moon in all your splendor know only my heart Call back my rose, rose of San Antone Lips so sweet and tender like petals falling apart Speak once again of my love, my own. Broken song, empty words I know Still live in my heart all alone For that moonlit pass by the Alamo And Rose, my Rose of San Antone Deep within my heart lies a melody, A song of old San Antone Where in dreams I live with a memory Beneath the stars all alone It was there I found beside the Alamo Enchantment strange as the blue up above A moonlit pass that only she would know Still hears my broken song of love Moon in all your splendor know only my heart Call back my rose, rose of San Antone Lips so sweet and tender like petals falling apart Speak once again of my love, my own. Broken song, empty words I know Still live in my heart all alone For that moonlit pass by the Alamo And Rose, my Rose of San Antone
Saw them at Minnestota State fair couldn't believe my luck because i didn't know they would be there.Went and talked to them after the show and got Ray to sighn my bumper sticker which i dearly treasured does anyone else have a bumper sticker that says asleep at the wheel.
@@markstephenson6023 my feeling of it is that Texas was it's own nation once and it will be again. Not to mention That Texas seceded once too. So I see it happening again and someday soon.
Read the comment below I thought maybe II wrote it . I was also in Germany in 1971 anytime i was around anyone and decided I liked them here would come that question ever heard pf Bob Wills I am sure most of them still know how Bob Will's and the Texas Playboy's are !!!!!!!!!! Me and this other guy were the traveling sales men for Bob Willis and the Texas Play Boys!!!!!!!!!!!
Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen laid the path for these guys to succeed. If you haven’t listened to the album “We’ve Got A Live One Here” you’re missing out.
I wish I could play for them as a jazz banjoist I also play Texas swim and county. But probably next to impossible to get through the people in the way.
@@richerdjones1988 Ray said once, "I'm Jewish, I'm from New York and I've never been poor." I read that many years ago and damn, where would Western Swing be without him? I've been a fan since about 1973!
@@jodywilke4642 Ain't that a fact. Jewish or not,(who the hell cares except idiots) I wish to hell Asleep would come back to Toronto- I last saw them in 1996 in a western-themed bar that is now a drugstore.
