The lore is very barely connected at all to the gameplay. Sometimes you'll get a cutscene, but let's be honest, we all skip that shit. You don't play WoW for the story, you play it for the gameplay. Actually no, you just don't play it. You unsub and you stop giving Blizzard free money.

That Proto drake boss in Upper Blackrock Spire (Warlords of Draenor) uses this model and textures i think

He skipped some points how Death Wing got Gul'Dan skull which was too powerful and then Khadgar came to the outland took the skull by beating Death Wing with the Most genius magic trick ever seen on WOW lore. He saw Death Wing chest and said (mmm, I can peal those off with a small magic push to expose his chest) and suddenly it worked and Death Wing cried like a baby giving him Gul'dan skull. Oh and the Red Dragon been a slave is true because those Orcs wanted a flying Taxis and her children were watching (How to Train your Dragon) all day long.

The black proto drake you see was an actual mount people can obtain by completing the glory of the raider achievements along with the plaguebound protodrake but was discontinued. Unlike the plague drake, the black one unfortunately did not return in the black market.

Reins of the Black Proto-Drake is a proto-drake mount. Along with the [Reins of the Plagued Proto-Drake], it was a reward for the Naxxramas Meta-achievements before being removed after the introduction of Ulduar.
