@@TNTspaz Still, this guy probably didn't read the quest text. Lol. The serial WoW lore complainers mostly do not read text, listen to dialogue and skip cutscenes. You gotta put *some* effort in yourself.
It only lasted 30 days with the storm tiger guy because he has lightning immunity and lei shen had to beat him into submission with just his fists. The other 3 weren’t mentioned because lei shen just used lightning to clap them in like 2 seconds, so they weren’t worth talking about.
i don't know what you were playing but a frost dk could 3-4 tap you if you're not careful, that same frost dk could also decide that they don't want to die and dump all their resources into healing..... you might have a point.
Imagine for a moment that Blizzard introduced an antagonist and made him have all this character development in-game. All coming to conclusion in the final patch, making it a very satisfying experience.
Ya its not like all of this was present in game...oh wait....IT IS. AND WAS. Save some later developments added in chronicle you can read in game text about it. In its entirety.
@@ConnorNotyerbidness the character development isn't really there though, that would require something similar to FF14's storytelling. just because it exists in game doesn't mean that it's being used well
Easily the best none RTS legacy character they ever made, damn shame the state of the game now and a damn waste he wasn't in HotS. At least we have happy memories.
@@clintonmallard8447 I've played pretty much every MOBA and the only ones I still play regularly are HOTS & LOL. HOTS is easy to pick up and you never feel far behind the meta no matter how long of a break you've had from it which is nice. It's a casual friendly game whilst still having significant skillgaps. I also find more variety in playing the same heroes on HOTS because of the talent system whereas on other MOBAS I feel like I'm just doing the same build and using the same spells 90% of the time.
This is why MoP is one of the best expansions. The lore brought so many incredibly interesting characters, (in my opinion) the zones were really pleasing to look at, and all of the classes felt amazing to play. People always resort to "Hurr panda stupid" but honestly I think Blizzard did a good job.
@@Derek147900 Yea I wasn't addressing the video... I was just stating I used to get my lore facts from Nobbel, you're aware that youtube has more then one WoW lore channel or do I need to hold your hand through my statement?
@@Derek147900 What video I'm I trying to cross reference, please point out where I was stating another video. All I pointed out was I'd like an in-game function that told me the stories from the books in the game. I also claimed about getting my lore on WoW from another RU-vidr. Replying to my comment without being a douche and trying to correct me on a topic not even brought up isn't hard BRO.
2:30 i used to work for an outsourcing company doing some stuff for Netflix, the reason there is still region locked content on Netflix and other sites has nothing to do with Netflix, its actually because of regional licensing, whenever Netflix (or some other streaming service) wants to get ahold of INSERTSERIESHERE they funnily enough have to bid for the license of that show in each region, which is why you will find some seasons of a show in one region on Netflix and some seasons of the same show in another region and another streaming platform (this happened to Top Gear) dunno why i felt i had to comment on that as i came for the wow lore but your welcome
Wow, MoP lore was pretty fucking cool, and the halberd dropping boss bit? What a nice touch. I didn't know any of this and I played the fucking expansion. THAT is WoW's real problem.
Watched this live yesterday, hot damn, I missed this patch in retail and I know they say this stuff isn't really in the game but DAAAMN this is some awesome lore. Imagine if they did loads like this and put it in the game, would've been just...excellent.
@@TonyKalashnikov b r u h. I stopped playing months ago, I'm not on copium, just like "we already had fun, imagine if they actually utilized the good writers they used to have, it would've been even better".
The content in this patch was god-tier. The lore, if not the actual storytelling, was also spectacular. there's a reason a LORGE section of players active during mists consider it to be peak WoW gameplay.
Yeah, you would have thought that Allied Race would be a great opportunity to add Jinyu to the Alliance and Mogu to the Horde. But like many features from WoD onwards, Blizzard half-assed it and turned into a expansion gimmick instead of expanding on it.
@@aureliodeprimus8018 The mogu would never join any of the factions given how prideful they are, to think they would submit themselves to what they think are inferior races is out of question.
@@matheuswagner5198 I mean Zandalari trolls were also prideful and thought themselves superior, but circumstances changed. Yes, with the Mogu you have a harder case since they are even more stubborn than Trolls, but considering they are now in a state similar to the Age of hundred kings it wouldn`t be too hard to make a scenario of one Mogu clan struggling so severely, that they would do anything to survive. One random encounter with the Horde later and voila. Honestly, considering how much Steve Danuser and his writing team messed up the lore already, this wouldn`t even be the most outrageous thing they could do....
Well, the Jailer could be a good story. It depends on whether they come up with a reason for his actions that makes sense like Lei Shen had motives that made sense, or if they come up with a stupid reason. That's if they ever reveal why he did what he did at all.
Actually, the Thunder King was foreshadowed and hinted at throughout the expansion, when finally he was revealed to have been revived in one patch. I seriously wonder why the Thunder King didn’t try to use his power to unite all of Azeroth instead of just ruling Pandarea. The guy could have armed the entire planet against all the external threats, or at least bolster its defenses, but I guess that would have not made him look much like a villain. Would actually have been cooler if the Mogu were playable with the the Thunder King being their leader, their race being wholly neutral with the players serving as mercenaries or something. But that would have been way too cool, right? Ugh, why does this game have to fall so short of everything it could be.
I think mogu wont work really good as a playable character especially if they are able to play with alliance and horde, everyone would be a mogu then bc u can just quest as alliance and horde
Well its not like he didnt try. He gotta establish rule and actually govern his conquered territory no? So yeah, it wasnt so much that he only chose to rule pandaria. It was more like before his death, his empire only reached to the corners of pandaria.
So glad wow has such good stories... Somewhere in a book you have to buy or hidden under a rock... Man without platinum wow id never knew about half the stories
During Warmaster Blackhorn encounter in Dragon Soul, the captain from the ship says: All ahead full. Everything depends on our speed! We can't let the Destroyer get away. Our engines are damaged! We're sitting DUCKS up here! At the end of the day we are the ducks.
The fact that Blizzard confirmed Lei Shen will win a 1V1 against the Lich King himself(Arthas, not Bolbar of course), proves that he’s the strongest mortal in the wow lore.
@@karerabbe7829 Lei Shen beat 4 wild gods with little to no effort. Xuen is pretty much immune to lightning since he himself has similar abilities, so he had to beat him into submission with his own hands, and thats why it took 30 days. While yes there are examples of weak titan watcher as you fight some of them as trash mobs (although players were not only powerful themselves but also had the strongest weapons in lore and they were empowered), some titan watchers are actually really strong. Remember titan watchers fought equally and eventually defeated the elemental lords, are you implying that Lich King could fight Ragnaros in a 1v1 and win ? Especially when you consider the fact that wild gods, althought vary in strength there are some good examples. Malorne who fought archimonde and Sethralis who fought Mythrax, and her own self destruction, annihilated the entire Vol'Dun area similar to what happened to Uldum. Lich King never had power of that magnitude . His strength comes from the endless undead army, not necessarily from pure power
@@karerabbe7829 Lei Shen may not be able to beat ragnaros but he is for sure on a tier of the strongest beings in azeroth. He beat 4 wild gods. There are examples where wild gods are actually pretty strong considering the many characters warcraft has. Sethralis as i mentioned blasted the entire zone of vol'dun. Pretty much the same things that happened with Uldum. So Lei Shen fought 4 wild gods who should be on that level of strength more or less. Lich King never did anything close to that. If you think LK would beat Archimonde, you are so wrong. Based on what exactly ? Archimonde and Kil'jaeden never feared the LK himself. Its his army that is a problem. To give you an idea how strong Archimonde and Kil'jaeden is. Only they could defeatt Azshara pre-N'zoth power up. She shielded her palace during the Sundering for quite some time, and thats insane considering the sundering had enough force to split continents. You realise how big that feat is ? And Malorne fought Archimonde who is superior to that level of power ? Yeah Lei Shen is an absolute beast and LK is no where near close to that level. Dont confuse powerscaling with how much better character he is Another thing to note. If you think Ra-Den is weak you have no idea, he together with Helya forged the 4 elemental planes and sealed, the elements (including Ragnaros and the others) in those pocket dimensions. So Lei-Shen also has enough power to create a pocket dimension at least a small one (not saying that he could make another elemental plane by himself but since it was only Ra and Helya he should have at least half the power required to create one) You also avoided the question : Could LK beat Ragnaros ? You just responded with another question about Lei-Shen if he could beat Ragnaros. The answer is simple if Lei-Shen cant, LK definetely cant do shit against any of the elemental Lords. Atleast Lei-Shen can fight for some time considering he has powers of a titan watcher who fought these elemental lords
I love how Blizzard calls the power source in Shadowlands 'anima'. They couldn't even be bothered to come up with a different name, just goes to show how little they cared about their story.
Makes it 100 times worse when you consider, that 'anima' in latin literally means 'soul'. Like, not only did they go the easy way with the naming, by calling the literal soul-juice 'soul', but also forgot to check if they used that term already.
Looks the same, too. So they had 2 options. 1. Say this was Ra-Dens Life force Anima. 2. Give the SL Anima a diffrent name and design. But none of this obvious simple solutiins came to mind.
Mists of Pandaria was an excellent expansion with great lore and lots of content. Great video! Mind you, people complained about it at the time ofcourse.
I half agree with Asmongold on best villains are the hero of their own story. There are exceptions though, such as Luca Blight. Who is my favorite villain of all time. He was great and actually manipulated an emotional response from me which isn't nothing.
The part where Sargeras killed the Titans hasnt been retconed, he did kill them, but the Titans are gods, merely losing their bodies wasnt enough so their astral forms just went away and regenerated.
I was watching this now and thinking. What did I miss, because I remember in Legion Sargeras did kill the titans and I thinking he is using their essense to empower the Burning Legion.
Thunder King story is both in books and in game just talk to Lorewalker Cho, lore like this and chronicles actually make sense being in a book since they happen long before the story of the playable game, current one is the one that should be all in game but adding cutscenes for everything isn't a good solution, instead the story can be told by the npc in game as things happen preferably with voice acting, this way people can know the story without breaking the flow of the game. Also it perfectly normal for it to be anima both in Azeroth and SL since races in Azeroth didn't had access or much knowledge about SL.
As much as i like PlatinumWow he got some details wrong. First Ra-Den never took Lei Shen to the Thunderous Mountain, all transpired in the Mogu-Shan vault. Second Lei Shen took Aman`thuls energy, which Ra-Den had stored away and showed Lei Shen as proof of his claim. After that he overpowered Ra-Den. Which in my opinion is far more impressive than striking him from behind.
Might be conflicting sources. Pandaria had a lot of stories like that where there were many legends about certain events went. I recall the Thundering Mountain-scenario being how the tale was told in-game before the Chronicles.
What happened? Well Metzen left. Guy aint a really good narrative writer but his ideas are usually really good. Afrasiabi is a shithead and deserved to be dropped and shouldve been dropped a long of time ago but he too contributed alot to the old lore. Danuser, Golden or whoever just doesnt hold up even alittle bit
@@timjack4650 i agree but her more recent books has been bad and her contributions to the bfa ingame story has also been bad in my opinion Her last good book for me was lord of the clans and maybe rise of the horde. Arthas was eh. The jaina novel, warcrimes, before the storm and now the sylvanas novel have all been ranging from mediocre or just bad with the latter 2 being criminal imo
Danuser is the main issue, he is completely inept when it comes to the lore and telling good stories. Golden isnt a bad writer but ofc she more likely than not gets some guidance on what the books should be about...and as good as you are its hard to turn shit into gold.
@@ghekor nah she did get alot of guidance. In fact, she was also given alot of freedom to retcon shit aswell as seen with Before The Storm where she retconned the entire forsaken society lore to fit her version just because "she never understood/liked vanilla's forsaken lore" Plus she has very specific taste in narrative as seen with Anduin's story and self inserts like Calia Menethil's story both of which have been either dull as all hell or just wtf
We did, and he was resurrected on the small island in the north-eastern part of Kun-Lai where there are zandalari trolls. There's also a valley up in the mountains with a bunch of tombs and the mogu and zandalari were searching for the one belonging to Lei-Shen and they got to it first.
Michael Stackpole wrote some TERRIFIC novels for BATTLETECH back 30 years ago. They certainly took the universe in a decided direction that was overpowering to the entire genres storyline. But never the less stories were great reads. Combined with William Keiths novels, wich you should read first as they are smaller in scope, and you have great stories to read.
I might be a history nerd but I think, Lei Shen story is basically based on Emperor of Qin Shi Huang, founder of the Qin dynasty who unified all independent kingdoms in the present area, China to Da Qin (Qin Dynasty) much like constant state at war with each other Mogus. Even serpent spine, is Great Wall of China and the end of Lei Shen at forge of origination that led Mogu Empire never recovered again, much like fall of Qin dynasty after Emperor Qin Shi died. Don't get me wrong, I love Lei Shen story so much.
I thought the same thing back during MoP. If you're going to base a villain for a China themed expansion on anyone, then go for one of the best. Qin Shi Huang is a historic figure I find fascinating, as an example of how sometimes, you need a monster to get things done. Nobody but a maniacal tyrant would have been willing to bust heads and conquer by force to end the Warring States period.
If all of this lore was known to the playerbase as warcraft 3 was prior to wrath of the lich king, then the thunder king patch would've been immensely more succesful.
Blizzard killed off or changed all the characters drastically after WotLK. They basically erased all of the old wow content and remade each expansion as reboots after WotLK too and none of the sheep noticed.
The problem eith the jailer is that for all shadowland he was doing evil thing without explaining nothing, everyone are like:"yeah so he is doing bad stuff for reasons we must discover" and basically we never does that only at the end and is compleatly bullshit because it makes no fucking sense, if he was a good guy or something, why didn't he just explained everything? Why he didn't told Sylvanas why he did everything alone when he could just talk, if he is supposed to be evil you have to give a sort of evil proupose, you can't tell me he was a sort of good guy at the end, because then why did he do all those bad things tourturing people instead of talk. There's no fucking way he wanted to "unite the cosmo" also because his plan didn't looked like it was that, more like destroy it, like we all thought for a year.
Won't come back unless wrathion gets killed and they recover his heart. Which I wouldn't mind happening. Thunder King is more interesting than most characters in WoW today
We went to the shadowlands and learned all about death, except for why we can wipe and resurrect a thousand times, but the main characters cannot resurrect xD.
With the exception of the player Demon Hunter who possesses the same Immortal soul like Illidan and can thus keep returning from death, noone else has such a soul and really outside specific raid enounters where we get 'killed' like ICC and Antorus(?) we arent technically getting killed anywhere else and in those 2 we get instanly ressed back.
In varians defence he just got done going ham against a giant demon and then an army after, yeah 2 are eventually gonna get him, and it was from behind!
i got the mount 1st run :P and mimirons head from ulduar ...my achievments dungeon completed same day mount obtained :( i quit playing years ago not even weeks after i got the mounts ...its just boring now
No. I think the only physical duck reference is the Legion fishing bobber. Other than that, it's possible that there's a cooked duck food item, or a duck float that goblins use in their pools. I think you're talking about the shore birds in Legion and BfA. Sandpipers, not ducks.
I miss mop. i had more fun leveling in mop than cata. i know there will probably be a cata classic but i dont really care for cata. the only place that was cool in cata was uldum ironically.
