I thought the map looked weird and then I realised different countries use different orientations, putting their country in the middle which makes sense. I was like, why is Europe all the way to the right 😅
Actually, the eastern tip of Russia is the end of Asia. Russia is a part of Asia. It's the largest country in Asia. But a part of it - the westernmost part - is also in Europe.

Do Americans really put themselves in the middle of the map or is this specific map just some exception? That's one of the most impractical/dumbest layouts possible
Why? The entire globe's featured on it so doesn't it make sense for the location it's primarily used in to be in the centre? It isn't like the earth has an actual left or right for a map to start from
@@TheHulksMistress if you put the Americas in center you're cutting the largest continent in half and making the cut region much harder to read. That's why the standard layout (Americas on the left, Asia on the right) is... well, standard. Nothing major cut, everything makes sense. Putting Americas in the middle does literally no good, only bad. Seems like sacrifice of practicality to stroke their own ego but ofc that's just an assumption

@@elvisradins7679 well you get to see both oceans. The Mercator wall map I had as a kid had overlapping ends in Asia so that you could see more. If you're using a Mercator projection the scale is off anyway, so you can't see how West Asia connects to East Asia very easily on a map no matter where you cut it.
It's the 2nd most standard projection and focus for American maps. The most common is the U.S. and East Asia on the left edge, and Mongolia and Alaska on the right edge. But yes many maps in the U.S. are U.S.-centric. IMAGINE THAT
