I've found that Americans tend to peel bananas from the stem (the bit where the banana is plucked from the bunch) instead of the tip ... you know, the bit that naturally peels open ... and then hold them at the tip end instead of the, you know, built-in holding protrusion. Like eating an ice cream cone upside down!
