In this video I will be doing an ASMR Close Up Whisper. I am whispering about advice for young people. I don’t get into too many topics so I will be continuing this in another video. I hope you enjoy it and if you have anything special you want me to address in the next one, please let me know.

Great video :). As a 17 year old who is leaving school and about to enter the scary but exciting world of a career my only goal is to just be happy and not view my life as a ‘waste’. Without really knowing what I want to I’m currently in the process of applying to work in the business travel industry as it is the one thing in my life I research and have a great interest and passion in

What a great way to start out by pursuing what you love. My best advice is to outwork everyone. Since you don't have a degree, other will likely try to hold that over you but you can compensate by working circles around them! Thats what I did and it worked like a charm!

@@ASMRReality yeah here in the uk most people my age end up going to university but I feel it wouldn’t really benefit me so I’d rather have the opportunity to take an apprenticeship where I earn a qualification whilst getting payed and gaining experience

@@sBtZ78 My life turned out just fine without it and I am certain yours can too! I'm happy for you that you know what you want to do and are pursuing it. I wish I would have known back then what I really wanted. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do but luckily I was still able to navigate my way through. You have the advantage of knowing what you want and that can keep you motivated. I look forward to the day you own your own travel company and can send a jet to come get me and let me visit!

Agree completely! I worked a ton of my youth away but today I don't regret a day of it. I accepted early that it was going to take monumental action to get my life where I wanted it to be and I accomplished it and don't feel sorry for the things I missed out on. It's all about choices. Glad you like this!

First of all, sorry for my English(I’m not actually English speaker). Two days ago I failed exam in my university and now I’m expelled. And the first thing I thought, that the life is over for me, I thought that I would never get a good job, I would never have money for living, like nothing at all. And now, after your video, I’m going to bed with strong motivation and confidence that I can actually hand it. Thank you so much for your inspirations and words that gave me power to believe in good future. Also I have no dad, and your video was like short talk with him, I feel so warm insight after your video. Thanks again for your video! I wish you all the good things that I can imagine, sir!

I am so grateful you wrote this to me. It makes me feel good to know that my story can help you. The same thing did happen to me. I got expelled from university too. It was different reasons but it puts us in the same spot. It is hard to say how you will navigate from here but I can promise you this...there is a way without university to have a wonderful life. I am living proof. So many great men have become successful without it. I hope that we can stay in touch for many years as your life evolves. I believe you will do something great. Every decision from here on is so important. You just have to study your choices and then make the best ones and you are going to end up somewhere wonderful just as I have. Bless your heart and stay in touch!

Sometimes, a pension or social security isn't even enough. Lots of elderly people are going back to work just to make ends meet, just to cover medical expenses. Times are harder than ever nowadays. Your advice is on point. Start financially building/saving, and investing as early as possible is the key. Hard work definitely pays off. Thank you for sharing your story and the advice!

The consistency of your output lately is incredible! Thanks so much, it’s very much appreciated by me and I’m sure everyone else too. I came to the realisation that this video may no longer be aimed at me as I turned 30 last year so I’m not sure I qualify as a young person anymore 😂 still great to listen nonetheless. I think a house tour would be a really cool idea so I look forward to that. I realise this isn’t quite on the advice topic but I’m also really interested in history and you strike me as someone who would have a lot of knowledge in that area so I’d love to hear more of your thoughts on key events in American history perhaps? All the best!

Appreciate that, Dom! I'm applying my hard work to this channel too. I do worry sometimes about posting too much as I do get some people unsubscribing at times. I probably fill up a lot of their feed and they get tired of seeing my videos loaded into their feeds. 30 is still young to a 50 year old but I'm pretty sure the young people that requested I make this are much younger than you. History is a great topic and I definitely have a fascination with it. I guess I've never really made one because I felt like a lot of people would find it boring. Great minds love history so I am glad you are one of them. I will add it to the list!

I started a life advice channel that is not ASMR. I am making 90 videos in 90 days about life and how to make it through the world. Each video is short...about 5 to 10 minutes long but gives a little bit of information each day so that if you watch one every day for 90 days you should have a lot better handle on getting your life in the right direction. At least they will make you think. The channel name is just my name, Derek Manis. I know not all the topics will apply to everyone but you can skip those and move on to the next. You got a lot of life left and you get to write the rest of your story. I'll be happy to hear about your progress as time goes on.

Family and real life experiences will never replace the internet. And traveling isn’t about seeing something you can see on a screen. It’s about the experience and the people you meet and the food you eat and the feeling you get from being in a different culture and a different place.
@ASMRReality
@ASMRReality Год назад
I definitely agree about the family part....Not sure how old you are but I can tell you that based on the money I've wasted going places just to say "I have been there," there truly is no place like home. But, I get it....its hard to learn from others....most people have to figure it out on their own. In the end....if money is no object...certainly traveling is a great luxury to take part in....but if you are trying to become financially free....spending lavishly on travel is not a good recipe for getting there.

These advice videos are fantastic. I'm not a "young" person anymore(having just turned 30), but your words still resonate with me. I also have similar aspirations where I want to be comfortable and at peace financially, but don't really want to get mixed up with the stress of chasing the high life. I will graduate next year with a masters degree that will offer me opportunity to work in healthcare either privately or with the government, and while there is much more earning potential in the private sector, I am leaning towards the government side of things just for the pension alone. How much of a difference in income would you say is worth it to forgo the pension provided by a government job?
@ASMRReality

There is definitely a great benefit to the security in lifetime pension and lifetime healthcare. My best friend from high school retired from the military with the pension and healthcare and now spends his time doing whatever he wants and gets a check in the mail every single month. Certainly he could have made more money by chasing the corporate life.

The only way you are going to get her is by talking to her about how you feel about her. The key is being confident with her. You need to ensure you are prepared for either result...whether she is having these feelings for you or if you find out she isn't. Either way you have to walk away confidently. Even if she says she does not have feelings for you now, if you handle it properly it leaves the door open for the future. Hopefully she is into you the same way but need to have a strategy for either response. Good luck!

Just a little note on the whole, money doubling every 7 years. This is a common sentiment that is massively misunderstood. I really hope you read this through because it might be very eye-opening. If I put 1000 dollars into the S&P 500 now, and let it mature at 9% for the next 47 years. Then I would end with a total of $57,416.13..... This sounds great on paper, I essentially just 60x'ed my money. But this completely ignores the finance idea of Net Present Value. If we just simply account for inflation(Not accounting for opportunity cost/risk of any other asset classes) At a 3% inflation, my wonderful $57,416.13, would now be a meager $13,718 (57,000 * .97^47) Now, if your money actually doubled every 7 years.... Then in our 47 years, that would be 47/7 = 6.7 doublings. 1000*2^(6.7) is $105,002.... which accounted for that same 3% inflation would be $25,000 (105,000 * .97^47) so to find out how fast it actually doubled in net present value, we can take the log_2 of our acquired $13,718 which = 13.74 Which means that the money you invest will only double after every 14 years in the S&P... To show you how bad a rate of return that is: Let's say our money doubles twice, so that would be roughly 28 years (in net present dollars, dollars worth the same as they would be today) So it would take 14 years to go from $1000 -> $2000, and then an additional 14 years to go from $2000 ->$4000 We then have a total of $4000 minus our initial money of $1000. So over 28 years we have gained $3000 Simply take $3000 / 28 years which = $107 gained annually now simply take our annual gain, and divide it by the amount we have grown by to see the percentage annualized return 107 / 3000 = 0.035 or 3.5% So you're really getting 3.5% interest on your not risk free s&p 500 investment. I wouldn't say that's an amazing business deal. To put how bad this is into perspective, the average american retires with $65,000 across all their investments and savings (before covid). If we put that into the s&p over those same 47 years, then we get an annual deposit of $1382 (65,000 / 47). At that same 9% annualized return we then get $944,293....(minus our initial 65,000).....we get $879,293 So lets count for inflation again, first we ($879,293 * .97^47) = $210,090 So......the average retiree will live roughly 22 years after their retirement at 65...... Meaning after they retire, if they exhaust every dime to their name... $210,090 / 22 years = 9549$ to live off.... PER YEAR. And all of this is assuming that you start investing THE DAY YOU TURN 18..... (18+47 = 65) This is a terrible investment. The only caveat of course is that I am not accounting for your money growing past you turning 65....Which of course it will, and because of exponential growth, it would grow significantly if you were able to not touch that principal.....The reason I am not doing that is because you most likely would need to start living off this money.... But lets for arguments sake give the benefit of the doubt that you were somehow able to not touch the principal amount for another 8 years, roughly half your retirement. That would grow the amount to $1,898,177.......... but again inflation is a bitch, as with 3% inflation that amount would come down to $355,452 in Net Present Dollars. That means that for the rest of your 14 years of retirement you would be left with $25,389 to live off per year...... while you have somehow managed to not touch your retirement money for 8 years....... Now one would think that most people would have their mortgage paid off by the time they're 65... But thats wrong, roughly half(44%) of people will still have a mortgage by the time they retire... With 21% at age 75..... So assuming you have a mortgage payment where we use the U.S median mortgage of $1,001........ Then people who have to touch their principal at age 65 would be left with: -$3000 a year left ($9549 - (12*1,001)).... And the people who somehow managed to not touch their principal for 8 years after retirement would have: $13,377 a year ($25,389 - (12*1,001))

You literally just set the record for the most complex comment I have ever received. WOW! This is really insightful information. I agree that inflation does affect your purchasing power later in life. I am curious on your thoughts about the average rate of return over the last 30 years being 10%. If inflation only eats up 3% of that, then aren't you still making 7% per year? I can only go by my own experience. I put a minimum of 10% of my money over the years into my retirement and now have quite a bit of money piled up that I intend to start living off of some day. The system seemed to have worked for me. Inflation over the last couple of years seems to have been much higher than 3% so that hurts. I just wanted to give people the knowledge that saving is important. I certainly do not claim to be a financial genius and obviously have a lot less math knowledge than you do. Really appreciate you taking the time to compile such detailed info here!

@@ASMRReality Thanks for taking the time to read it! Sadly no, 10% interest with 3% inflation will be lower than 7% interest with 0% inflation. (1000*1.10^40) *(.97^40) =13,383 (1000*1.07^40) = 14,974 And i totally agree with your point that saving is great. I think the most important take away from my post, is that investing in yourself (furthering your education, building real estate portfolio, etc.) Is the best investment you can make to hedge the future...not just stashing stuff in the S&P. And another important take away, is that you can essentially get much higher interest by just reducing your everyday expenses, because today's dollars are worth much more than future dollars. So like, if you were to go to Costco when there was a deal on toothpaste, where you could get 1 for 1$, where normal toothpaste you buy at Kroger is like 4-5$. Let's say you buy a 10 year supply, so like that's roughly 6 tubes a year according to PubMed. If you load up at Costco, that's 60$. But if you buy it everytime you need it, it would be $300, plus inflation @ 3% over 10 years so 403$ So, you're essentially getting 60/403, or 14.88% interest on your money by just, saving money on toothpaste.

@asmr reality you asked me to weigh in here because of my finance background. My experience in finance is not on the mathematical end, I work in investor relations, and I don’t have the knowledge to critique the math that TL has kindly laid out here. One thing I think TL might not be accounting for in his consideration is that most people don’t only invest in the S&P 500. A common Sophisticated investor will fully maximize their IRA or 401k which is usually comprised of a multitude of different index’s and securities available depending on your brokerage, the S&P 500 being only one of many options in that portfolio. Additionally, the principal of dollar cost average investing isn’t to just invest 1000 one time in the market, it’s to continuously buy shares on a periodic basis to compound your earnings. Also, as you earn more money through work, you are theoretically contributing more dollars per week/month that you contribute to your investment savings, which should help to outpace inflation. At the company I work for, i work with thousands of investors from the retail folks who just want to put some of their IRA savings into alternatives, to super sophisticated institutional clients. Headcount wise, most of our investors are IRA investors which speaks to the success of the concept of dollar cost average investing, Because our minimum net worth requirements to invest with us are very high. There is a reason yearly contribution amounts to your IRA and 401k are capped at a certain dollar, because (pardon my French) it’s some really good shit to be invested in. Your comment on investing in real estate and other alternative assets is definitely valid, but the reality is most folks don’t have the time, capital or expertise to build a portfolio in those sectors. One caveat to the traditional dollar cost average retirement savings strategy is that people should actually be trying to save closer to 15-25% of there monthly income rather than the traditional 10%. If you are making $70,000 or below, 10% monthly contributions is not going to give you a bountiful retirement.
