I work at an optometrist and we always have to ask height and weight because the doctors need to know this in order to correctly dose your medication. It’s awkward but necessary!

yeah i was thinking the same. i know it can be hard or uncomfy for people but usually doctors ask for things like that because they really do need the information to do their jobs correctly.

I never had my weight or height asked or measured. I also haven't needed much medication in my life but I feel like they should do the checkup first and ask if they need it after? Or maybe it was already on the system from prior visits idk. I get it for dose accuracy though.

@Painted I felt that way a little bit too, I was 200 lbs up until recently and now I’m 150. Looking back at it now I don’t really see why I was embarrassed. As long as you’re trying to better yourself there’s nothing wrong with it.

@Yagami Eren I'm in recovery from an ED and I'm not stable yet, so I could relapse just by weighing myself (especially if the number on the scale is hignher than I expected). So a doctor asking me about my weight can be tricky.

As a nurse in training asking for height and weight is very necessary as that is how doctors decide what dosage of medication you need, also any health risks for being underweight/overweight. It may be uncomfortable but it is very important!! Btw I love your videos Karuna ❤️❤️❤️❤️

It feels disrespectful that people are always requesting this while ignoring the hard work and time she puts into other great content. Just imagine how it makes her feel to work so hard on something and just get the same snarky request over and over. She has already mentioned she’s going through a tough time. Just try to be a little empathetic instead of trying to be the funniest person in the RU-vid comments. You committed to the bit, we get it. I know weight can be triggering, but it's necessary for a doctor to know. Not only for medication dosing/monitoring for side effects, but as a general tracker for your wellness - including helping to diagnosis! (ex: depression, anxiety, T1/T2 diabetes, thyroid disorders, IBS/IBD... the list goes on). It's not always about gaining weight, unexpected weight loss can be signs of other problems too!

Hey, you're right it's uncomfortable to both the nurse/medical assistant and patient to ask hight and weight, however it's so you're care for proper dosage in meds is correct. So I don't want them to do away with that because it's important. Please research your stuff for a better role play. I do like your videos though.

I’m pretty sure that when the doctors ask for your weight and height, it’s so they can give you the correct dosage of medication at the hospital. Same as when they ask you if you take any medication, if you’ve consumed alcohol/drugs as well. It’s all to make sure you don’t die, essentially (at least this is what I’ve heard from friends who work in hospitals)
