I’ve always found something oddly comforting about post-apocalyptic ASMR. The feeling that even in the worst of times, we can still find that sense of normalcy and comfort.
@@ArticulateDesignASMR Perhaps a series where each episode picks up where the other left off so that, once finished, they can be strung together into a single, long movie?
Having immigrated from the US to Taiwan, one feeling I actually miss is being warm in a warm place when it's very cold. I don't miss being cold, like, at all. I'd be happy to never feel cold again in my life. But when it's very cold outside, and you're inside with a fire and a hot drink and warm soft clothes or a blanket, that's a feeling you just can't replicate when 15°C is the absolute coldest it ever gets.
Let me preface this by saying I do not mean to come off as preachy/pedantic. Rather than to say you immigrated from the US to Taiwan, the correct word there would be emigrated. That is, of course, assuming I understood your comment correctly and you now live in Taiwan. If you, in fact, immigrated from Taiwan to the US then all you'd need to do is swap the to and from in your first line. Hope this is helpful, please don't hesitate to let me know if this was obnoxious
Your story telling skills are amazing and the tone in which you delivered this was so relaxing and calming. I found the oil burner flame quite hypnotic, drawing me and along with the wind effect really bought the whole scenario to life. You said you made this up as you went along, well I applaud you, this was first class.🙂👏
I listen to your videos most days. Not only the way you talk but the stories you concoct make for your signature style. The vast majority of time I'm listening to asmr it's your stuff. Fav's are second watch salesman, and reiki session. Keep it up!!!
Well it still feels so strange to me that people are choosing to watch a few of my videos and even more so when they take the time to comment! Thank you very much :D
I've always thought winter apocalypses have been underexplored in fiction. What if, in a delicious stroke of irony, the Earth suddenly plunged into an Ice Age, instead of burning up? What stories could you tell when the War Boys ride snowmobiles instead of cars?
I appreciate your work Matt!! Ive always listened to your asmr but at this point in my life i have been super anxious and cant seem to eat or sleep. but these videos like so many others of yours and other ASMRtists make life more tolerable, again i appreciate everything you do🙏🏻💯
Well this was the primary reason so many of us started creating asmr content in the first place. I'm really sorry to hear life is so tough right now but just know that we're all here standing with you!
I’m not one to comment on a video even the best like this but I was scrolling through the comments and a guy like you Matt is an amazing person because you have replied to most comments keep up the great work man
Very unique story, I love your work. This character gives “Tom Hardy in Taboo” vibes. Usually I turn on a video and pass out but I got really invested in this one.
This video is a lot of fun! I always like the idea of the merchant who gets all the weird stuff because they're the last stop on the way out of whichever region, and travelers going outbound need to sell off the McGuffins they've picked up but never used and won't be able to use once they've left. The different grades/impurities of water are a nice touch, too, rather than just "it is hard to find in this setting." It's a worthwhile detail that, even if water is potentially abundant, it's the purity that matters! Making the subtle point that the details of how water quality is discussed are different from place to place is also a good detail. On that note, two things that I think would be good if this setting ever gets revisited and you want to add some more detail into it (which I hope happens because it feels really neat!) is touching more on the source of the water that is there, especially if it's different for the different grades, and tying in a bit more of the impacts of the cold on why the setting is as it is. As an example that covers both, I could imagine that grade 5 water is mostly ash-or-polution-laden snowmelt or something, though even thawing enough water to put sterilizing chemicals in and drink is hard enough in the poorest settlements that it becomes of value. Four may be from basic filtering, three being actually at least boiled, requiring a commitment of heat and fire to get as well as better treating, two being similar but from better sources like glaciers or hearts of icebergs, and one being full on distilled, requiring a MASSIVE commitment of time and fuel to produce relative to what's available. Something like that. Regardless, you do a wonderful job of creating compelling setting concepts with enough details to fuel imagination and stories while being open enough to allow them, and this roleplay has one of them! It feels alive enough that I can almost feel the frigid winds. Fantastic work, and SO relaxing, too. (Also sorry for this comment being so long. I got excited by the lore potential here.)
This was an amazing read and I love your take on the water!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this out, it's greatly appreciated :D
@@ArticulateDesignASMR You're welcome! World-building and world exploration is fun for me, so I'm glad you enjoyed my musings. ^v^ I'm always happy to come up with theories and internal logic. Keep up the awesome work!
Your voice sounds so relaxing, your acting skills are actually professional and the quality of your videos is really unparalleled. Thank you so much for this masterpiece! 😍
I’m absolutely loving this! The sound of your voice is so tingly, and the wind and flame are really calming additions! Really love the lighting too! 🙂💜
Most of us are probably drinking Grade 2 right now LOL. Thanks for this. Dire winter and a warm place to wait it out place has always been something I find comfort in, and combining it with a post apocalypse setting is really great.
Dude this is awesome. It makes me feel like I'm in some kind of post apocalyptic videogame like fallout or something. Thanks for helping me sleep every night for about over a full year now brother. You know your craft 👌🏼
This is very similar to a visualization i do to fall asleep at night. There's something about a warm spot in the middle of a cold wasteland that is infinitely cozy.
Blue eyed! The story at 20:10 about the girl sending the note back from the far east made me tear up oh lorddd. How in blazin sake do you make this up on the spot???? Amazed.....
Ur best acting ever Matt so so impressed I been stuck on sugar dealer with the chocolate discs not bars n library banana bread and suits version one n two but this , this is Oscar worthy my friend!
The video is supposed to be post apocalyptic, but that tumbnail do b how I’m feeling 10 days into 2022 For real though, your content always shines Matt. Keep on being the best in the game
I swear tonight will be the night that I stay awake past the description of the different water grades. I'm genuinely interested in the video, but the relaxation is so next level I pass out every time LOL
A continuation of the old merchant story! I’m so excited too see this that original one was how I found your channel and I’ve been watching ever since so glad too see it continuing again!
This was always my favorite one. No difficulty believing the pretensions. Just basic human needs and a dip into what seems to be a deep, frostpunk apocalyptic lore he’s created.
I love these sort of Roleplays, I've rewatched Raymond the Merchant so many times. Your story telling and world building is your strongest asset as an ASMRtist. Thank you so much for making my morning back at work after the Holidays a little more tolerable
Raymond is actually my Mum's favorite character too! I don't think this guy is quite as warming and compassionate as he is but hopefully you'll enjoy it :D
Amazon video as always Matt! Love all the great tingles and soft spoken words! With that being said, Day 4 of asking you to do a cigar lounge role play. I would really enjoy it if you did a cigar role play where you try to explain your premium cigar options and walk a newbie through the process on the different options, how to properly cut and light it, smoke it, and what kind of whiskey to pair it with 😍 I’m a huge cigar guy and I feel like it would be a perfect role for you, bc I’ve seen you with cigars in other videos. Please consider it!!!!
As usual with your creations - original idea for plot and great execution, really made it belivable that we are in the icy wastelands, but at the same time the experience was soft spoken enough to induce sleep.
This is a brilliant concept and delivery Matt, great job on it! so atmospheric and your voice is as relaxing as ever. I live on the coast so the sound of howling wind is strangely comforting to me (when safely tucked up indoors)
I really enjoyed your video Matt! It’s been a busy winter and some days it gets so cold I feel like I’m in frost punk! :0 anyhow thanks for the amazing video!
Just moved to a pretty cold place at almost the coldest time of the year. I really appreciate the feeling that I have someone to accompany me at this frigid time. Perfect as usual 👌
How you make different qualities of water sound so satisfying I will have no idea. Unless of course you make another one of these apocalypse merchant videos. Which would be awesome
Matt! While I’ll say this for certain: you definitely have the market cornered in terms of “luxury asmr” where you make us feel as though we’re a millionaire in Dubai(those videos are ofc always lovely btw) but I can’t lie. Every time I see a fantasy asmr from you, Matt (drunk sorcerer, post apocalypse trader, whatever it may be) I ALWAYS get excited. Love a little more of the heavily handed fictional role plays from you as your style and acting, in my opinion, are always very convincing and well articulated for the context they appear. Cheers from the US, Matt. Hope you’re doing well!
The acting, story telling and ambiance of this (with the wind and fire and even the fake smoking) is next level. This is so good. Like a mini world. I wanted to sleep, but also did not want to miss anything. I was really excited to see it was a playlist as I expected loads of this character in a series of linked and interwoven stories. But, no, there was just one. Tease. More post-apocalyptic profiteering and story telling, selling me over-priced, basic necessities and nonsense items, such as shoe oil as glue, please . We need more of Desmond the merchant. How many keys to make this happen? Or did Desmond not survive grade 3 water, after all?
Man I wish I had a fifth of your talent sir. I had to download a copy of this one. I thought it was going to be a Fallout related roleplay, but even though it isn’t I’m not at all disappointed. Thank you for this performance.
Man that is some steller acting, like no joke, you're doing a pretty convincing job of being cold, I dunno how to fake that, even got some red going on in the face and everything.
Amaaazing acting skills!!! I cannot tell you are in hot Dubai. 👏😆 Love the theme for this! And the sound, lighting and background are so perfect. And of course, love your calming rambles. Thx!!
My headcanon: this isn’t actually a typical post-apocalyptic (Earth) scenario, but a kindof Firefly-universe-like half-failed-in-terraforming colony planet. One of the places that Articulate Space Tours ignores, and/or maybe will later buy out large portions to gentrify from this cold don’t-eat-the-snow hellscape into a frozen beauty winter sports resort for the wealthy, idk...
Matty my boy the part about the east I'm gonna use as inspiration for my next amateur novel. That was sick!! U both scared me n worried me. U gave me anxiety ur acting was so good I mean incredible!! I was asleep but anxious wth never happened to me before a new level of ASMR. U r the f-ing best Matt so freaking talented!!!
The Long Dark is probably the closest we have to the sort of frozen wasteland post apocalyptic experience in video game format. Frostpunk as well but tbh I prefer the long dark, it's less settlement management and more pov survival 👌
I absolutely love the long dark :D I feel like I bought it yearsssss ago, way back when early access launched. Its changed and grown so much since then too
watching this video right after the exotic drinks merchant video makes the "There was a time I would have offered you a drink" line hit a little different.
An easy worldbuilding start for a winter apocalypse where water is a scarcity: The earth is hit by a powerful solar prominence which raises the temperature of the planet by 50-60 degrees (or just high enough that about 90% of all surface water evaporates, but not enough to cook the surface). Mankind barely survives by filtering the small amount of water that is left, and predicts that the prominence will only be temporary. However, the prominence and solar winds affected the earth’s orbit, pushing it to right on the edge of the Goldilocks zone as well as heavily irradiating the vaporized steam. When the prominence finally ends, the steam begins to condense, rain, and finally freeze. Virtually all of it is heavily contaminated with radioactive particles and needs to be filtered to be safe for consumption. There you go, the unofficial plot for this video’s scenario.
Thanks for naming a character after me!! lol all jokes aside another great video! Gonna take me 14832749 rewatches to get through it without falling sleep
