Here is a poem I wrote for Sylvia Plath. It was written in French because it's my mother tongue, so I used an online translator to keep the meaning in English. I hope there won’t be too many mistakes. The candle extinguished (In Memoriam) To Sylvia Plath Sylvia Plath is the daughter of the stars. Like an empty ink bottle, she floats somewhere in space, in the golden world of black words. She blew out the candle of her soul in 1963, because living was hurting her too much. She was thirty and had no longer faith in her creative force, in her primordial fire. Her soul was a burning chamber and old jellyfish gave her kisses. One morning the sticky poison sealed her fingers and she went into exile on a winter day, forever broken. At the crow of the rooster, she denied herself three times, prepared bread for her sleeping children. Like a young Jew, she gassed herself, buried the words with her and said nothing more. The light didn’t get the better of the cold night. But her poetry still burns like the skin of a ruby.
